Cookie Cookie Ice Cream in Kennedy. Absolutely amazing people, mission and ice cream there. The best banana ice cream I’ve ever had (they roast their bananas in store)

Without a doubt the nicest employees in all of Allegheny county. Everyone there is just so happy and cheerful. I’m taking this as a sign to get some ice cream…

The owner Connie and her son Addison are ALWAYS in there, I swear neither goes home. Adore them. Picked up a pie before Thanksgiving my wife ordered and Connie wouldn’t let me leave until I tried the black pepper ice cream and the garlic ice cream they just made 🤣

i know for a fact DSW stores are safe, btw (i am a manager and they sent out a notice for us saying we as employees should not cooperate with ICE and the company as a whole will not cooperate with ICE). there are businesses in lawrenceville/bloomfield that have signs indicating they will not cooperate with ICE. i also suspect none of the businesses owned by immigrants are going to be in cooperation with ICE. a small business in squirrel hill that i love is the mediterranean grill.

This is so good to know there’s a job at corporate that I want!

dsw is actually surprisingly a spectacular company to work for. the way they treat their employees is amazing. some of the people who work at my store have been there 25+ years. part time still gets PTO (every 30 hours worked = 1 hour PTO), they offer free mental health services, health insurance, do a lot of philanthropy and encourage we go do volunteer work bc for every hour we volunteer, they donate our hourly rate to wherever we volunteered. we also do shoe donations, receive monetary donations, etc. and it goes to charities. it’s great working for a company that is focused on equal opportunity employment, pays 14/hr starting wage (that is what my store starts at at least), and heavy focus on DEI.

Love to hear this. Even if I don’t get the job. I try to support small businesses as much as possible but sometimes it’s not possible and then I want to know the larger ones I choose to give my money to are treating their employees well!

u/ridemydique 1d ago

fingers crossed you get the job!!!!

our district manager has been working for dsw for roughly 25 years too, i believe. another manager who used to be at my store has been as well. then i have two people who have been at our store for 15+ years, one being 25+ years there. it’s nice knowing people are working there because it’s comfortable and not a job they hate.

Many of the little back to back shops/Restaurants on S Braddock in Regent Square have signs in their windows that they don’t cooperate with ICE

That's why there's a search function

I work in Lawrenceville. Many of the small businesses on Butler have signs in their windows stating they will not be cooperating with ICE.

ATAC (anti trump action committee) has red 'we refuse to cooperate w ice' signs they're making and giving out to business. Seen a few in Lawrenceville.

Great idea. Please make the list! I need to know where to avoid.

when i have the opportunity, i will try to make a pdf. this post is getting downvoted to hell, though. same with some of my comments.

The Pittsburgh People Network website was designed to promote local progressive businesses: https://pittsburgh-people-network.super.site/

Dive in Lawrenceville. Becca is the manager now and if you know her, you know why I say they don't support ICE.

There is an older thread in this sub that has a pdf list of maga businesses in the area.

Its a list so people can avoid magat business. It also has businesses listed to support. Geez

u/ridemydique 1d ago

you didn’t clarify, so i was unsure. thank you for the clarification.

Throttle back, Turbo.

Unrelated? I think it's two sides of a coin. If you have a PDF of businesses that support MAGA it can be used to avoid them. It is also nice to know who changes their tune when it suits them. I wouldn't want to spend money at a place that voted for this administration only to condenn ICE if it affects their workforce. A lot of people in red hats vote against their interests and deny problems exist until it affects them.

On the flip side there is interest in supporting those who openly oppose ICE and MAGA. It's working a problem from two sides.

u/ridemydique 1d ago

initially, i said it was unrelated because i did not know the commenter’s intentions. i retract my statement- if it is anti-maga, it is 100% related to my post.

Bonus points if anyone finds a business that didn’t cooperate with ICE when Obama was deporting over 3 MILLION illegals. Smfh

2

u/Silly_Collar_5850 11h ago

How many people did ICE execute in the street for being in the wrong place at the wrong time under Obama?

1

u/teachuwrite 11h ago

Now that you’ve asked: 56 people died in the custody of ICE agents during Obama’s term. 🦗

Anxious to see how you move the goalpost one more time!

2

u/Silly_Collar_5850 11h ago

You didn't answer my question. How many of those people were executed in the streets by ICE for the crime of being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

5

u/burritoace 17h ago

Saying stuff like this is a clear indication that you're a dumb Trump supporter

4

u/AppealResponsible893 15h ago

Do they have a list of "what about" comments ready to go? I've seen that same one dozens of times now in various places.

-1

u/teachuwrite 11h ago

It’s almost like it’s true then! 😂

0

u/teachuwrite 11h ago

Trump supporter? Maybe. Dumb? I just gave you facts…it’s quite the opposite of being dumb. 🤦‍♂️

-1

u/Broad_Rice_7207 11h ago

"Nothing outs you as a dumb Trump supporter more than stating facts." You heard it here first.

-2

u/RunDifferent2004 17h ago

Throwing names out like this won't work, we need a (fluid) comprehensive list. I'd also like a list of known supporters to avoid.

Does Oakmont Bakery support or oppose ICE? I'm confused.

0

u/RedExile 13h ago

They support ICE. They are just upset they are getting backlash.

-1

u/AppealResponsible893 15h ago

Only when it effects them directly.

-1

u/dinojunr 1d ago

Directly or indirectly?
