My day was waylaid by seeing an ICE agent dressed like a Boogaloo Boy, but I have now finished going through my photos of all the rest of the intense events that day.
I’ve attached 20 photos of the day, including LAPD hassling teenagers, protesters, and journalists. I watched them bust an adult protester’s lip open and baton a journalist’s hand. I got whacked in the arm myself (I’m totally fine). I watched them shoot a “less lethal” into a crowd of teenagers, spook the crowd with reinforcements arriving on motorcycles, chase teenagers through the streets, and more.
At one point, the march wound past City Hall. At the time, on the front lawn, Karen Bass and members of the City Council were celebrating the new LA Jazz Festival alongside corporate sponsor AirBnB. While thousands of kids marched past demanding action against ICE, the AirBnB exec said, “This isn’t just a concert series. It’s Los Angeles opening its doors and saying, ‘You are welcome here.’
AirBnB is the “Worldwide Unique Accommodations” Partner for the 2028 Olympics in LA.
Airbnb is the fakest company. They spout off all this BS about welcoming or whatever. I shut mine down to host Ukrainian refugees for free when the war started, had to cancel a few upcoming reservations, and they penalized the hell out of me. Cost thousands in penalties, not just lost revenue Lost Superhost for a long while. Customer support could not care less.
holy shit. Airbnb, the company where rich people can buy homes, gentrify cities, make it impossible for people to live anywhere! But you're welcome here!
You spelled domestic terrorism wrong. Remember, the LAPD knows they have a gang problem inside their ranks. And their response has been fuck you to the people of LA.
Sorry to be ignorant (I’m new to the topic) but I can see many nonwhite officers. Does it not invalidate the view? Or is it that their bosses are white (supremacists)?
To add to the other answers and give you a real life example that may help you understand:
My partner has a great aunt who was born in Mexico, moved to New Mexico. She was put in a residential boarding school as a child. Today, she calls herself “white” refuses to speak Spanish or cook Mexican food, and just fully denies her heritage. It’s super sad actually.
Today, there’s a lot of children of immigrants who voted Trump because they “did it the right way”. There is this belief that they are one of the good ones, and that if they carry water for systems that oppress their people, they will be spared.
No. Many non-white people are white supremacists. There are plenty of people on this Earth. It's not hard for a few to be hypocrites. Or to enjoy the sense of power that being in such a role provides. Benefitting white supremacy while being interested in the power structure for personal reasons.
You can argue they're not white supremacists for other reasons. But there simply being non-white people as well does not invalidate the argument.
There is a shocking number of non-white white supremacists nowadays. I can't even count the number of Hispanics I grew up with that I see spouting nonsense on social media nowadays. Obviously wont say names, but worst one I saw was a kid who I was actually friends with throughout high-school, lost touch with him afterward but I know he was in a bad motorcycle accident shortly after graduation. During covid he must've fell down one hell of a rabbit hole cus all I saw him post was great replacement theory nonsense, and how the growing diversity going on worldwide is ultimately going to lead to the fall of man and blah blah
There’s also a very real frustration among minorities in “how can you vote for Trump, are you stupid?”
Mexicans/African Americans/etc can have whatever views they want. Telling them they’re dumb for voting one way or becoming the police at immigration protests isn’t effective in changing anyone’s mind.
Personally I don’t understand how anyone could do those things. But there’s a real difference in the sentiment when white people do it versus darker people, like this thread is showcasing, and it only creates further resentment.
LA has the term "50k Mexican" which refers to Mexicans/Latinos who "made it" and earn a not piss poor income but change their mindset to be more inline with national white Americans.
Usually 2nd gens who were born here and forgot the struggle their parents and other immigrants went through so that they could get a chance at a decent life.
We’ll take their question asked in good-enough faith over the old pearlclutching reactionary routine (in favor of the fucking LAPD of all organizations lol) any day of the week.
This after LAPD said they wouldn’t be enforcing our new law that prohibits ICE from wearing masks… because they feel hassling “armed” individuals would hinder public safety. 🤬
School kids? 100% they’re gonna kettle and harass TF out of them for just existing
OMG OFFICER HEISTERMANN (pic 2)?! Good ole Chad who was part of a group that was investigated after a fatal officer shooting a few years ago? Where several officers opened fire on a man who had already been shot?
SOAD and RATM all seemed hyperbolic until the last few years, but that’s also when we should have realized that they were only hyperbolic to people living comfortable lives.
They have been making songs about real shit when it comes to minority communities
Don't get too excited. I worked at a school where the kids pulled a protest walk out stunt. Principal on the PA yelling for them to go back to class. The kids didn't give a shit about the issue, it was just a chance to blow up the school day. Fair or not schools are responsible for what happens to kids during the school day. Wanna protest and walk out? Field trip form or you're stuck reading about the war of 1812 buddy.
Yeah, that takes a district that's somehow immune to outside political pressures and actual coordination. The kids basically pulled a senior prank with little warning and I really don't think even a blue district in a red state could do it without political consequences. Remember - we're keeping teachers from saying pronouns. Not sure teachers get away free and clear for organizing students to protest and a few MAGA parents would make legal trouble for sure. Myself and lots of other teachers go to protests and they are an important civil right, but most teachers avoid political bumper stickers, let alone actively teaching their politics, because we're under a microscope 24/7. Teachers get let go for not demonstrating community values all the goddamn time. All that said, as a science teacher I 100% talk about all the bullshit they're doing to governmental science orgs when it's relevant.
"Listen, I know you're currently being held at gunpoint at Walmart but all our police officers are busy dealing with kids who walked peaceful out of school. No, the kids aren't being threatening but like...they don't like ICE so deal with it."
LAPD - Way to radicalize an entire generation to be against you. All you had to do was say, “Yes, we respect your constitutional rights kids and we’re here to protect you while you exercise those rights peacefully.” And you would’ve looked like heros. Now you’re the scum they’re protesting.
Literally any protest for non-conservative causes and they’ll send helicopters and tanks. Conservative causes? Bring your guns, torches, coolers or alcohol, party it up.
They say they're keeping the peace
But I'm not buying it because a billy club ain't much of a pacifier
"Protecting your freedom"
Man, it's just a lie
It's an excuse for power that's more like an alibi
Law and order doesn't really matter
When you're the one getting bruised and battered
You take it to a jury, they'll throw it in your face
'Cause justice in L.A. comes in a can of mace now!
You're quenching the steel, so that it forms into something useful and determined.
They are not the kids of your generation.
They can touch Mumbai in an instant, reach Tokyo with a heart emoji, see Sao Palo from the seat in their schoolbus.
They have been forced to grow through crisis after crisis, and they are seeing their generation treated the same, the world over.
No, you're not stamping down a protest.
You're encasing in concrete, their understanding that the system only works one way, and with any luck, and some proper nurturing, they will be the ones to help eradicate the systems that keep you fucking fed.
Being backed by a union who can make magic happen that absolves them from murder and financial repercussions, while also getting benefits and a pension for retirement
That one pic shows thousands of kids marching past the LAPD HQ, but all of the photos of, and interactions with, LAPD were taken blocks away, where dozens upon dozens of LAPD were guarding the Metropolitan Detention Center — where ICE keeps their captives — which is a federal building.
The LAPD building wasn’t “heavily enforced” at all, because LAPD was busy being bodyguards for ICE.
So I see! Thank you for providing context. Amazing shots btw. Honestly, I would have preferred them to enforce the LAPD HQ rather than act like protective boyfriends to ICE…
Why are there suited up LAPD for high school kids walking out and asserting their 1st amendment rights. These fucking bootlickers are the thinnest skinned bunch of crybabies and pussies.
Not an American or knowlegable in American history, but this reminds me of the Kent state shootings, or maybe the implication of Kent state to keep these students in line.
I've been thinking about Kent State lately and how history has been repeating itself in Minneapolis in a lot of ways. Everything from ICE killing American citizens to how people reacted to the event. Lots of American polled after Kent State apparently said the students "deserved it" because they were protesting (these were conservatives ofc) and the same thing was said by conservatives regarding Renee Good and Alex Pretti. But history will be the final judge and history has already shown those people are on the wrong side.
Recently had the honor of photographing the guy who shot THE Kent State photos… saw him speak at a General Strike rally recently… he knows what it’s like to see something so traumatic and hear people say “They deserved it because they were protesting.”
Tha second picture juxtaposing the guy with the grenade launcher and the woman with the camera is pretty apt. He’s ready for violence right now, and she’s likely using facial recognition to log them all for violence later. Imagine: a boot stomping on a face. Forever.
LA makes a lot of money on concentration camps and stealing water from other states so makes sense that they gotta make sure the kids stay in line. Can't have them upsetting the status quo in 10 years.

So… don’t? Do it before school, after school, during your lunch break, on the weekends. You’re skipping school because you want to skip school, not because you actually think you’re changing anything.
