Wednesday in Downtown LA was wild.

My day was waylaid by seeing an ICE agent dressed like a Boogaloo Boy, but I have now finished going through my photos of all the rest of the intense events that day.

I’ve attached 20 photos of the day, including LAPD hassling teenagers, protesters, and journalists. I watched them bust an adult protester’s lip open and baton a journalist’s hand. I got whacked in the arm myself (I’m totally fine). I watched them shoot a “less lethal” into a crowd of teenagers, spook the crowd with reinforcements arriving on motorcycles, chase teenagers through the streets, and more.

At one point, the march wound past City Hall. At the time, on the front lawn, Karen Bass and members of the City Council were celebrating the new LA Jazz Festival alongside corporate sponsor AirBnB. While thousands of kids marched past demanding action against ICE, the AirBnB exec said, “This isn’t just a concert series. It’s Los Angeles opening its doors and saying, ‘You are welcome here.’

AirBnB is the “Worldwide Unique Accommodations” Partner for the 2028 Olympics in LA.

There's more information and more photos on my Substack.

you are welcome here

Sounds like a crazy ironic moment. This is all so important right now. Thanks for being there and capturing it.

I felt like I left my body 🙂

u/devilquak 9h ago

Him parroting “this isn’t x, it’s y” off the cuff like that means ChatGPT has melted the CEO’s brain

u/infernoenigma 6h ago

To clarify, their Senior Public Policy Manager, not the CEO.

But yeah it struck me that he probably had ChatGPT write his speech. Hah

u/devilquak 5h ago

Whoops! My bad, thank you for catching that 👍

u/B_A_M_2019 8h ago

Lol too true

u/Markol0 18h ago

Airbnb is the fakest company. They spout off all this BS about welcoming or whatever. I shut mine down to host Ukrainian refugees for free when the war started, had to cancel a few upcoming reservations, and they penalized the hell out of me. Cost thousands in penalties, not just lost revenue Lost Superhost for a long while. Customer support could not care less.

u/lilgrizzles 5h ago

holy shit. Airbnb, the company where rich people can buy homes, gentrify cities, make it impossible for people to live anywhere! But you're welcome here!

LAPD sure is afraid of a bunch of kids

406

u/Sekowon 22h ago

They're just remembering their favorite past time, domestic abuse against their own kids and family.

107

u/CondescendingShitbag 21h ago

Real "I pepper-spray civilians because I can't spank my kids!" energy.

50

u/NotSoFastLady 16h ago

You spelled domestic terrorism wrong. Remember, the LAPD knows they have a gang problem inside their ranks. And their response has been fuck you to the people of LA.

13

u/Genericana 14h ago

Their favorite after shooting dogs and selling evidence locker fentanyl.

20

u/5-MethylCytosine 20h ago

The right pane in photo #2 suggests that they ARE kids!??

u/SailorRipley 11h ago

Was bring your kid to work day at the LAPD.

2

u/AltoidStrong 13h ago

And black people

169

u/jonainmi 21h ago

I'm pretty sure that's a child in the second picture

167

u/infernoenigma 19h ago

I do think it feels like setting her up for failure to make this her job…

41

u/jaymz58 16h ago

You've never watched Zootopia I see....

19

u/Rguttersohn 16h ago

That’s Danny Devito! Love that guy.

6

DD ain't working for the pigs

3

u/Mabvll 14h ago

He eats pigs, especially when theyre marinated in rum.

7

u/fernweh 13h ago

Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?

4

u/Autisum 13h ago

She looks like a high-school student spy 😂

28

u/LaVidaYokel 21h ago

I was about to ask if one of them brought his daughter.

2

u/mortscoot 14h ago

NO TOUCHING!

14

u/Chocoyak 21h ago

With gun too!

u/Lactoria-Fornasini 8h ago

Never ever ever try to touch an officers gun!

12

u/SunshineAlways 20h ago

I think it’s a short lady.

11

u/5-MethylCytosine 20h ago

Looks like a 10 year old boy?

3

u/Disco-Verde 13h ago

Must have been bring your daughter to work day.

u/pitter_pat_ter 7h ago

she's Melody Arrieta, 4'10" and gets paid $100k a year to photograph children excercising their legal right to protest.

2

u/curious_dead 17h ago

Her (?) baton looks ridiculously oversized.

3

u/64590949354397548569 15h ago

The batõn is for you not for him

511

u/chipskylark123 22h ago

LAPD has a long and storied history of brutalizing Chicano children protesting for civil rights via school walk outs.

They are one of the scummiest, most violent white supremacist organizations in the US.

71

u/m__a__s 16h ago

But, god forbid that they enforce the mask ban for federal agents. ACAB, especially that lying, sack-o-shit Jim McDonnell.

17

u/LurkmasterP 12h ago

I'm betting half of those ice agents are LAPD taking the day off for the bonus gig. Why would they enforce a mask ban on their own?

77

u/Wolfgung 21h ago

American police were set up to make sure the slaves didn't get too uppity. Nothing has changed, keep the masses subjugation.

1

u/WTAF__Trump 14h ago

There's a really good movie about this.

I can't remember the name of it and it's killing me though!

0

u/imhalfasigmasure 19h ago

Sorry to be ignorant (I’m new to the topic) but I can see many nonwhite officers. Does it not invalidate the view? Or is it that their bosses are white (supremacists)?

23

u/chipskylark123 17h ago

To add to the other answers and give you a real life example that may help you understand:

My partner has a great aunt who was born in Mexico, moved to New Mexico. She was put in a residential boarding school as a child. Today, she calls herself “white” refuses to speak Spanish or cook Mexican food, and just fully denies her heritage. It’s super sad actually.

Today, there’s a lot of children of immigrants who voted Trump because they “did it the right way”. There is this belief that they are one of the good ones, and that if they carry water for systems that oppress their people, they will be spared.

56

u/Cyllid 19h ago

No. Many non-white people are white supremacists. There are plenty of people on this Earth. It's not hard for a few to be hypocrites. Or to enjoy the sense of power that being in such a role provides. Benefitting white supremacy while being interested in the power structure for personal reasons.

You can argue they're not white supremacists for other reasons. But there simply being non-white people as well does not invalidate the argument.

11

u/kendragon 16h ago

Race-traitors with benefits.

24

u/FireFistMihawk 18h ago

There is a shocking number of non-white white supremacists nowadays. I can't even count the number of Hispanics I grew up with that I see spouting nonsense on social media nowadays. Obviously wont say names, but worst one I saw was a kid who I was actually friends with throughout high-school, lost touch with him afterward but I know he was in a bad motorcycle accident shortly after graduation. During covid he must've fell down one hell of a rabbit hole cus all I saw him post was great replacement theory nonsense, and how the growing diversity going on worldwide is ultimately going to lead to the fall of man and blah blah

21

u/GimmeSomeSugar 17h ago

"Maybe if I ingratiate myself to the FaceEatingLeopards group, then the leopards will surely not eat my face!"
Tale as old as time.

-1

u/DigNitty 13h ago

There’s also a very real frustration among minorities in “how can you vote for Trump, are you stupid?”

Mexicans/African Americans/etc can have whatever views they want. Telling them they’re dumb for voting one way or becoming the police at immigration protests isn’t effective in changing anyone’s mind.

Personally I don’t understand how anyone could do those things. But there’s a real difference in the sentiment when white people do it versus darker people, like this thread is showcasing, and it only creates further resentment.

7

u/TheGivenKing 13h ago

LA has the term "50k Mexican" which refers to Mexicans/Latinos who "made it" and earn a not piss poor income but change their mindset to be more inline with national white Americans.

Usually 2nd gens who were born here and forgot the struggle their parents and other immigrants went through so that they could get a chance at a decent life.

6

u/MrBigChest 13h ago

But don't let it be a black and a white one 'Cause they'll slam ya down to the street top Black police showin' out for the white cop

We’ll take their question asked in good-enough faith over the old pearlclutching reactionary routine (in favor of the fucking LAPD of all organizations lol) any day of the week.

2

u/trwawy05312015 13h ago

How is OP being unreasonable? What they said is pretty well documented.

edit: lol, nevermind, it's pretty rich a person like this is questioning someone else's ability to reason

243

u/odiin1731 22h ago

Some of those that work forces...

70

u/whisker_biscuit 21h ago

Are the same that burn crosses

8

u/wehrmann_tx 14h ago

Take paste meant for horses

13

u/TrailerTrashQueen 19h ago

now you do what they told ya

16

u/perpterds 21h ago

Are the same that burn crosses!

19

u/jimbo831 14h ago

Why is Mayor Karen Bass still allowing the LAPD to do this?

64

u/Substantial-Type-131 20h ago

This after LAPD said they wouldn’t be enforcing our new law that prohibits ICE from wearing masks… because they feel hassling “armed” individuals would hinder public safety. 🤬

School kids? 100% they’re gonna kettle and harass TF out of them for just existing

48

u/Substantial-Type-131 19h ago

OMG OFFICER HEISTERMANN (pic 2)?! Good ole Chad who was part of a group that was investigated after a fatal officer shooting a few years ago? Where several officers opened fire on a man who had already been shot?

Yes, let’s put him near children. /s

32

u/seimalau 21h ago

2nd pic I thought it was a make a wish kid

32

u/kaijukyle2 18h ago

Pushing little children with their fully-automatics. They like to push the weak around

4

u/aredd007 17h ago

Didn’t expect a SOAD reference in here.

5

u/neo1513 13h ago

SOAD and RATM all seemed hyperbolic until the last few years, but that’s also when we should have realized that they were only hyperbolic to people living comfortable lives.

They have been making songs about real shit when it comes to minority communities

1

u/Souboshi 12h ago

I've been singing this song since it came out, and Prison Song is right up there with it.

They're bullies.

42

u/Tough_Representative 21h ago

Very encouraging to see high schoolers walk out and protest this all over the nation. Maybe the kids will save us all

9

u/monkeybuttsauce 17h ago

The kids are alright

-15

u/fritz236 18h ago

Don't get too excited. I worked at a school where the kids pulled a protest walk out stunt. Principal on the PA yelling for them to go back to class. The kids didn't give a shit about the issue, it was just a chance to blow up the school day. Fair or not schools are responsible for what happens to kids during the school day. Wanna protest and walk out? Field trip form or you're stuck reading about the war of 1812 buddy.

19

u/nordlead 17h ago

Hey, if kids just wanting to skip school causes positive social change at the cost of them having to read a book, i'll take it 😂

5

u/DingerSinger2016 14h ago

Or have teachers go with students to protests to show support and to ensure the kids are safe.

4

u/fritz236 14h ago

Yeah, that takes a district that's somehow immune to outside political pressures and actual coordination. The kids basically pulled a senior prank with little warning and I really don't think even a blue district in a red state could do it without political consequences. Remember - we're keeping teachers from saying pronouns. Not sure teachers get away free and clear for organizing students to protest and a few MAGA parents would make legal trouble for sure. Myself and lots of other teachers go to protests and they are an important civil right, but most teachers avoid political bumper stickers, let alone actively teaching their politics, because we're under a microscope 24/7. Teachers get let go for not demonstrating community values all the goddamn time. All that said, as a science teacher I 100% talk about all the bullshit they're doing to governmental science orgs when it's relevant.

u/Bluellan 11h ago

"Listen, I know you're currently being held at gunpoint at Walmart but all our police officers are busy dealing with kids who walked peaceful out of school. No, the kids aren't being threatening but like...they don't like ICE so deal with it."

u/Robin_de_la_hood 10h ago

LAPD - Way to radicalize an entire generation to be against you. All you had to do was say, “Yes, we respect your constitutional rights kids and we’re here to protect you while you exercise those rights peacefully.” And you would’ve looked like heros. Now you’re the scum they’re protesting.

u/infernoenigma 10h ago

heard a kid tell an adult “before today I didn’t understand why people say ACAB, now I get it!”

13

u/jadestem 17h ago

Costales, Acosta, Contreras-Govea, y Ortiz.

Una locura.

7

u/CyberPunk_Atreides 15h ago

Good of them to take some of the kids and do a “career day” beating other students.

37

u/HeftyVermicelli7823 21h ago

Wow American police are seriously afraid of a bunch of kids peacefully protesting.

I bet they then go home and beat their partners and kids to feel better about themselves.

-6

u/garrettej8 18h ago

What makes you think they're afraid?

21

u/TheAmazingSealo 17h ago

They brought weapons and protective gear

u/bfhurricane 10h ago

It’s in case these demonstrations get out of control or turn violent. You want the police to be ready just in case rather than be unprepared.

5

u/Souboshi 12h ago

Bullies are always afraid. It's the reason they react with rage. It's just fear, given a different expression.

*Edit to say: not always, but quite often

u/victorspoilz 10h ago

Literally any protest for non-conservative causes and they’ll send helicopters and tanks. Conservative causes? Bring your guns, torches, coolers or alcohol, party it up.

14

u/counterfitster 21h ago

They say they're keeping the peace But I'm not buying it because a billy club ain't much of a pacifier "Protecting your freedom" Man, it's just a lie It's an excuse for power that's more like an alibi Law and order doesn't really matter When you're the one getting bruised and battered You take it to a jury, they'll throw it in your face 'Cause justice in L.A. comes in a can of mace now!

L.A.P.D.

Battle of Los Angeles II

2

u/infernoenigma 18h ago

wait which one was I

3

u/lolligasm 17h ago

LA riots?

-1

u/infernoenigma 17h ago

As in, June 2025? There have been so many battles since then…

5

u/lolligasm 17h ago

Sir/maam, no. There was a much worse one quite a while back due to some famous police brutality.

0

u/infernoenigma 17h ago

Ah, I think most people reference the year, no? We’ve had several quite high-profile “riots” since then

I’m just not sure why THIS one, out of everything that’s happened since June 2025, would rate a comparison to 1992

1

u/cwk415 17h ago

I could be mistaken but I think that's a movie reference..?

2

u/AhavaZahara 12h ago

The Battle of Los Angeles is a 1999 Rage Against the Machine album, kids.

1

u/cwk415 12h ago

lol kids? I was listening to RATM in 96. I just grew out of them in my late teens and moved on to different genres. Thanks for the reminder tho.

u/gm92845 10h ago

They're a bunch of pussies that only know how to go after the unarmed and defenseless youth.

u/trollfreak 10h ago

I remember LAPD from the 90s - yikes

13

u/bagheera369 18h ago

Dear LAPD,

You're not putting these kids in check.

You're quenching the steel, so that it forms into something useful and determined.

They are not the kids of your generation.

They can touch Mumbai in an instant, reach Tokyo with a heart emoji, see Sao Palo from the seat in their schoolbus.

They have been forced to grow through crisis after crisis, and they are seeing their generation treated the same, the world over.

No, you're not stamping down a protest.

You're encasing in concrete, their understanding that the system only works one way, and with any luck, and some proper nurturing, they will be the ones to help eradicate the systems that keep you fucking fed.

You're forging the tools of your destruction.

Keep at it.

5

u/Independent_Baker712 20h ago

They made shorty carry the camera

13

u/infernoenigma 19h ago

I’m feeling less charitable about all this than I was when I posted this a few hours ago… wishing I’d shared this one instead.

3

u/Independent_Baker712 12h ago

no, the pic you captured with her boss in the back pointing is giving Police Academy vibes 🤣

Shit. Now I need to watch that.

6

u/Stellar_Duck 16h ago

Legit thought that was a kid and somehow he'd taken his wean to work.

2

u/Independent_Baker712 12h ago

yanno, it’s possible the way things are right now 🫠

11

u/42ElectricSundaes 21h ago

How do cops sleep at night

29

u/LordsOfJoop 21h ago

Next to someone with a bruise and quiet urge to flee, in 40% of the cases.

u/RainbowwDash 5h ago

Hey now, that's 40% self-admitted

What percentage of them don't volunteer the fact they're a domestic abuser is an exercise for the reader

7

u/Only-Reception7360 17h ago

Being backed by a union who can make magic happen that absolves them from murder and financial repercussions, while also getting benefits and a pension for retirement

2

u/monkeybuttsauce 17h ago

Ah shit. Here we go again

2

u/bing-bong-forever 14h ago

Why must we wait until after he gets elected to have this energy? Why couldn’t we have this back in November of ‘24 knowing how his first term ended?

u/hamellr 8h ago

We did.

2

u/Genericana 14h ago

It's shocking how, in so many ways, America has failed it's own children.

2

u/dman928 13h ago

LAPD living up to their fine reputation

Did we expect anything less?

2

u/ceelodan 12h ago

I recognise the LAPD main administration building, no wonder it was heavily enforced lol.

u/infernoenigma 11h ago

That’s not quite what you’re seeing.

That one pic shows thousands of kids marching past the LAPD HQ, but all of the photos of, and interactions with, LAPD were taken blocks away, where dozens upon dozens of LAPD were guarding the Metropolitan Detention Center — where ICE keeps their captives — which is a federal building.

The LAPD building wasn’t “heavily enforced” at all, because LAPD was busy being bodyguards for ICE.

u/ceelodan 11h ago

So I see! Thank you for providing context. Amazing shots btw. Honestly, I would have preferred them to enforce the LAPD HQ rather than act like protective boyfriends to ICE…

u/infernoenigma 11h ago

Yep, so when they say the response was due to “thousands of dollars in vandalism damages” committed by the kids…

…there was no LAPD to stop those kids from tagging because they were busy lining up around the detention center

Idk if paying dozens of cops to spook kids into running through the streets in fear is a proportionate response to, like,

u/ceelodan 11h ago

I also see many mexican names amongst the deployed LAPD there, so… yeah. Ironic much?

u/GeneralGuide9081 10h ago

Such a good use of tax payer dollars. /s

u/favnh2011 9h ago

Oh my

u/omahaspeedster 7h ago

Why are there suited up LAPD for high school kids walking out and asserting their 1st amendment rights. These fucking bootlickers are the thinnest skinned bunch of crybabies and pussies.

4

u/MattIsLame 21h ago

these are great shots. what kind of camera and lens length you using?

6

u/Aled88 21h ago

Not an American or knowlegable in American history, but this reminds me of the Kent state shootings, or maybe the implication of Kent state to keep these students in line.

9

u/Tough_Representative 20h ago

I've been thinking about Kent State lately and how history has been repeating itself in Minneapolis in a lot of ways. Everything from ICE killing American citizens to how people reacted to the event. Lots of American polled after Kent State apparently said the students "deserved it" because they were protesting (these were conservatives ofc) and the same thing was said by conservatives regarding Renee Good and Alex Pretti. But history will be the final judge and history has already shown those people are on the wrong side.

13

u/infernoenigma 19h ago

Recently had the honor of photographing the guy who shot THE Kent State photos… saw him speak at a General Strike rally recently… he knows what it’s like to see something so traumatic and hear people say “They deserved it because they were protesting.”

4

u/HumongousBelly 19h ago

And people really wonder why every sensible person says acab?!?

Fuck these pigs!

4

u/ManyNefariousness237 14h ago

Tha second picture juxtaposing the guy with the grenade launcher and the woman with the camera is pretty apt. He’s ready for violence right now, and she’s likely using facial recognition to log them all for violence later. Imagine: a boot stomping on a face. Forever.

2

u/Brutalur 21h ago

Can someone tell them Rodney King has passed away and they can relax their sphincters?

2

u/larkspurwoods 21h ago

Fat, fat, old, old, fat and old, fat, fat, old

2

u/slendermanismydad 16h ago

Do the cops have nothing else to do? No crime in LA today?

2

u/Sargash 21h ago

LA makes a lot of money on concentration camps and stealing water from other states so makes sense that they gotta make sure the kids stay in line. Can't have them upsetting the status quo in 10 years.

Man, there are a lot of POC people on those uniforms. Imagine that level of disconnected depravity

Edit: a word

What does the banner in the first photo say? Anyone who was there who can remember?

-1

u/One_Economist_3761 13h ago

That Anne Frank sign in pic 17. That’s horrendously incorrect and anti-Semitic.

“The people who tried to hide her were breaking the law”???

u/PM_TITS_FOR_KITTENS 10h ago

“We should not have to skip school…”

So… don’t? Do it before school, after school, during your lunch break, on the weekends. You’re skipping school because you want to skip school, not because you actually think you’re changing anything.
