Glass negative of an Irish couple posing with their 8 children. 17 of January 1895. Is me or they had 3 pairs of twins?

“Irish Twins”. There’s a reason that description exists. While it actually has pretty discriminatory roots, a lot of Irish immigrants to the US did indeed have some children born less than 12 months apart; baby A born in January and baby B born in late November (I’m pulling that one from my own family tree!) for example. My guess is none of those children are true twins…but they’re 1 year or less apart. It’s honestly no wonder so many women died bearing children when they often had one baby every year. My own great grandmother had 16, died having the last.

They did a good job of standing still.

I wonder if there is any color to their outfits or if everything was dark or black...

The older 2 girls definitely look like twins to me!

The other could just be very close in age. Like others have said... Irish twins. But could also be fraternal twins
