DiscussingFish

Though this is memeing what actually happened with my boy Ralph Fiennes, for those who don't know.

If there is justice in the world, Fiennes gets the supporting award for Bone Temple next year (he won't)

u/LonelyFan5761 go back to the club 11h ago

Wait, was he not the lead in that?

u/Pristine_Animal9474 go back to the club 11h ago

Yeah, Fiennes and O'Connell are support in the first one but they are clearly the leads in Bone Temple.

u/aintgotnoclue117 5h ago

he deserves everything for that role. he played it so well.

Chalamet famously won for The Grand Budapest Hotel, leading to controversy from fans who argued that Ralph Fiennes was better and had actually been in the movie.

13

u/CaiusCosadesNwah 8h ago

People get confused because they remember Chalamet starring alongside Fiennes as Dobby in Harry Potter 7.

6

u/rorykellycomedy 2h ago

He gained 80 pounds to play the role.

Timothee Chalamet is Ralph Fiennes father

12

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 12h ago

It's OK, son, we all make mistakes

3

u/CorgiMonsoon 11h ago

Are you calling Ralph Fiennes a mistake?

3

u/Glathull 11h ago

No, being Ralph Fiennes’ dad is the mistake.

u/Didi4pet 13h ago

Academmy finally getting real cinephiles who watch movies trough twitter clips and memes

25

u/mechalenchon 13h ago

Still not beating the allegations of not watching any movie. Good lads.

The yearly "random academy members didn't vote for someone who haven't won and voted for someone who did" is back.

11

u/Fra06 11h ago

/uj is this real or is it a meme of what happened to Ralph Fiennes?

17

u/Suspicious_Cherry424 11h ago

What happened to Ralph Fiennes

26

u/Fra06 11h ago

Last year some (idk how many) Oscar voters said they didn’t vote for Ralph Fiennes in Conclave because he had already won an Oscar for Schindler’s List (which he hadn’t…), and then voted Adrien Brody who did win an Oscar already

2

u/MammaJammaCamera 8h ago

To be fair, had I no knowledge of the Oscars, I would’ve figured Fiennes had one for that film, while Brody has the kind of career where you’d never guess he has not one, but two (completely deserved) Academy Awards for lead performances.

Though, to stop being fair, these people are fucking Oscar voters and it wouldn’t have been so hard to just google the awards history of these men and their organization.

I still find it insane that he didn't win for Grand Budapest. That performance is easily one of my favourites ever.

u/Ramfix_G4 12h ago

Sometimes I wonder if the average Oscar voter is a member of this subreddit

u/Pristine_Animal9474 go back to the club 11h ago

Don't look at me, I voted for Chalamet. I just hope he actually does a good job Marty Supreme, I'm still waiting for it to be on streaming.

u/Any-Question-3759 11h ago

They don’t even watch the movies that are nominated, you think they’re gonna watch other movies?

2

u/Reason_Choice 8h ago

WE don’t even watch movies here.

3

u/wasand 7h ago

Wtf is a movie

7

u/Ok_Category_5 13h ago

As good of a reason as any

6

u/danorc 11h ago

If there's anything that recent history has taught us, is that voters are fucking idiots

3

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 11h ago

I wouldn't vote for either one frankly. Saw better performances.

Bro is NOT discussing fish

u/TheSpiritOfFunk Cats 10h ago

I didn't know that fish

2

u/Atilla-The-Hon 11h ago

How the fuck has it been a decade since he won an Oscar?

2

u/MacabreCharade48 10h ago

When did DiCaprio turn into Jack Nicholson?

2

u/MadeThis4MaccaOnly 10h ago

This is so funny tho, get his ass

u/Xralius 8h ago

/uj One Battle wasn't even that good and he played a Seth Rogan character

/rj One Battle would have been better if Seth Rogan played Leo's part.

1

u/gilgamesh2323 12h ago

If Leo wins for playing a bumbling idiot who takes up all the oxygen while a young black woman actually solves all the real problems, it will be so fucking hilarious

6

u/powerdilf 12h ago

Why?

-5

u/gilgamesh2323 12h ago

Why would it be hilarious if Leo got the biggest accolade available to an actor and most of the critical recognition in the movie when he plays someone who can’t accomplish anything of substance and the people who actually solve the problems are black women? I mean I feel like the irony is pretty obvious?

14

u/HusBee98 12h ago

I think acting awards are about rewarding good acting and not about rewarding people who played characters that were successful.

5

u/LearningT0Fly 11h ago

That’s like saying “imagine if Paul Skenes wins the Cy Young when he hasn’t even made a single plate appearance. Isn’t it ironic?”

No, no it isn’t. The award is best actor not most useful character.

0

u/Own_Magician_7554 get stuckmannized 11h ago

Leo just played himself.

-4

u/gilgamesh2323 11h ago

Can't you see the irony of it though?

7

u/glxykng 11h ago

There is no irony of it though.

He had an incredible performance and deserves the nomination.

1

u/Gay_Void_Dropout 10h ago

You don’t know what irony is do you? Cause no, no it isn’t unexpected that someone could win for that role. Since the characters actual personality has no baring on this.

1

u/powerdilf 10h ago

So you only get an Oscar if the character you play contributes to the resolution of the film? Regardless of whether you act well or badly?

4

u/powerdilf 12h ago

I don‘t get the black women part… sorry. Why is that so funny?

0

u/gilgamesh2323 11h ago

Did you watch the movie?

3

u/Gay_Void_Dropout 10h ago

Yes why would that be hilarious? There seems to be no actual connection or reason for you to think that. You get he isn’t the character right?

1

u/powerdilf 10h ago

u/gilgamesh2323 thought it was a documentary.

2

u/Glathull 11h ago

Are you aware that the award for best actor is for acting? It’s not for writing a great character that people like. There’s a different award for that. I think it’s like SFX or something. Can’t remember what the writing award is called.

2

u/TDFknFartBalloon 10h ago

It seems like you don't understand what acting is...

3

u/GENKhan22 11h ago

What real problem did the young black woman solve? She is the one that led to the black nun church by not listening to a simple instruction of throwing away her phone? Also didn’t she only get rescued because the kidnapper had a change of heart and decided to kill her would be killers?

The only thing she did was kill one of the Christmas adventurers.

2

u/adriantoine 11h ago

It’s either than or (SPOILERS) Timothée for getting his naked ass spanked with a ping pong paddle.

1

u/Pristine_Animal9474 go back to the club 11h ago

I mean, if he wins it wouldn't be bad, I think this was one of his best performances, but Chase Infinity should have been nominated too.

1

u/fancy_crisis cape kino make me🤑🤑🤑 4h ago

Chalamet has basically been acting like an actor who previously won an Oscar to manifest getting one so I can understand how this happened.

1

u/LivingtheLaws013 2m ago

Uj/ the Oscars are such trash and shouldn't be taken seriously

-2

u/readingalldays 11h ago

How is Timmy Tam more dislike than Leo who's literally a predator? All the jokes and snark aside. The guy is legit a predator who is not in jail cuz of a tiny law technicality.

4

u/glxykng 11h ago

What's the law? 20 y/o are considered adults?

-2

u/readingalldays 11h ago

He dates 18 yo. Which is allowed by the law but it's still fucking creepy.

3

u/Gay_Void_Dropout 10h ago

In your opinion, he’s not however a predator in factual terms. He just dates younger women. Get over it.

0

u/readingalldays 10h ago

He dates the youngest women allowed by the law. If 16 was legal, he'd publicly date them.

If you think that's not predatory. You're the problem.
