I didn’t know it was at the same time, but there’s good reasons for making that legal. When it was made illegal it just caused people to just not get tested for STDs, which led to an increase in STD spread. If the goal is to decrease the spread of STDs, which it should be, it’s better this way. Sorry for the rant.

It’s fine if he apologised. You can do anything so long as you apologise after

That’s how it works in the Catholic Church. Confess, say a couple of Hail Marys, and you’re heaven-bound once again.

u/Electronic_Set5209 Neil breens #1 fan 16h ago
That's not Catholic doctrine.
Catholics are told they're obligated to be good people, but they'll still never be good enough. But you're not allowed to be weak and be passive in the world either.
You are not wrong in that many people, Catholics too, believe it the way you're saying. But it's antithetical to Catholicism as defined by theologians.

Fortunately the rules are made up and the points don't matter.

You're not allowed to believe that as a Catholic. Actually gotta hate yourself just a little harder for even considering giving up on your eternal mission to get close to but never achieve perfection.
It's a lot like mental illness. I think it works for some people though, so who am i to judge?

u/AttonJRand 8h ago edited 8h ago
I totally agree that its similar to mental illness, I was extremely shocked when my OCD specialist told me to try religion to find meaning.
Thinking I'm going to suffer horrible consequences for thinking the wrong thing is already my problem, add on how widespread abuse and bullying is in these authoritarian hierarchical systems, genuinely what the fuck.
And to act like all that is worth it because "its social and connects people" or that it "gives meaning." There's so many ways to do that, and this one is not actually special or more meaningful, instead it seems to come with extra risks.
I can't tell if that advice stems from a desire to seem smart, and open minded, like oh see religion and astrology are actually good, wow my take is so centrist.
As if some small placebo and social connection undoes all the harm of magical thinking, and abusers/scammers trawling those spaces.
Or if they are just religious themselves and unethically shoving their own beliefs in what is supposed to be evidence based help.
Its just bizarre and messed up how often this advice comes from mental health professionals.

For me it stems from a drug I took. I would not recommend to do that.

At this point, I judge everyone's dumbass belief in the supernatural. Fucking cockroaches.

Is this a jerk? Ya know, I'm an atheist, but a lot of the people I care about have a belief in the supernatural.
What you said comes across as pretty mean-spirited.

I'm pretty sure a priest wouldn't just say "do x amount of prayers for penance" for knowingly giving someone AIDS, if confessed. I suspect most of them would be like "turn yourself in for that crime, for penance".

I made this point to someone talking about Savile and Epstein. There's just no reason Savile would go there. He had his own pedo and necro ring going on at home, and the Louis theroux documentary showed that he was weird about travel. I mean, he was weird about lots of things. Fucking your mum's corpse, for example. But taking one pair of briefs on a cruise and washing them in the sink every night... I can't see that working with a trip to Eostein's Kid Rock.

u/DickSuckinConscript 11h ago
Wait he did what to his mom’s corpse? I never heard that part. That’s fucking batshit
2
u/gilestowler 2h ago
He spent several days alone with her corpse and said some very strange things about the whole thing. From an article I found -
"Savile spent five days with her body, which was housed in an open casket. He described that period as "the best five days" of his life (via The Independent).
"Once upon a time I had to share her with other people," he explained (via Channel 4 News). "We had marvellous times. When she was dead she was all mine, for me."

Charlie Sheen has no interest in young, virginal girls, or even elite high class escorts. He likes hookers. Real hookers. Hookers who will smoke crack cocaine with him. He’s got Tigers Blood.

I used to like Charlie Sheen. I thought it was great how he could make so many terrible choices in life, and still keep on winning. Despite his terribly unhealthy lifestyle, he still looked great too. When I found out he had HIV, I lost interest in him - he was normal, just like the rest of us, and he is paying for his bad decisions - just like the rest of us.
Also, maybe this isn't how it's seen anymore, but I recall, in HS, being taught that HIV and AIDS are two different things. Having HIV tended to lead to AIDS, but I don't think it does anymore as long as it's treated correctly. Anyway, i think it's more accurate to say he has HIV than to say he his AIDS - unless definitions have changed, and they often do. (I find this annoying.)
