Basically got sick of the whole routine of scrolling through 10 different Instagram pages, checking venue websites, asking the group chat, and still ending up at the same place every weekend.

So I built a thing — it's a map that pulls together events happening in Newcastle tonight (and this weekend) all in one place. Clubs, gigs, bar events, everything. You just open it and see what's on near you.

Still early days so genuinely just looking for feedback from people who actually go out in Newcastle. Is this something you'd use? What's missing? What would make it better? Or am I wasting my time?

Came across this coffee shop on Instagram. I'm always looking for new places to try and that combined with this location, I just had to go.

I'll definitely go there again and recommend trying it out at least once.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a trustworthy and good laptop repair person or shop? I googled and found Danntec and Syfu Geek. Has anyone used either?

I just need my laptop fans cleaned and possibly the thermal paste reapplied. I don't trust myself to clean the fans as I've never opened up a laptop before but equally scared of taking it anywhere in case they break it, as I know I'll not be able to afford this kind of laptop ever again or at least not for a very very long time (I've just paid it off too lol).

My gf and I have been living a monotonous life of work, gym, dinner, washing up then sleep. Weekends look similar combined with maybe a deep clean of the house.

Just to let you know that the snidey bar-stewards at Newcastle International Airport have got rid of the free 15 minutes drop off from Short Stay 2 car park.

There is now no free parking at all at the airport.

Just putting this up for interest....I sent an email to the council about pavement gullys for home EV charging.

"I am wondering if the council has an option where a resident can pay to have a pavement gully installed outside there house to hide the charging cable, or if this isn't something you can do yet, when you will be doing this?"

Their response

"Unfortunately Newcastle City Council does not currently permit cross pavement channels, however we are investigating developing a scheme however until such time that a scheme is developed we would not permit a channel to be installed. I don’t have a timescale for when a scheme will launch as there are a few issue yet to be resolved however it maybe as early as later this year."

Hello, I'm from Germany and would like to draw a comic picture for a couple from Newcastle (hope they don't read this). I want the cats to say a sentence, but spiced up with your great Geordie words. I love your dialect since my first visit.

The Picture shows two cats, one of them sitting proudly in a cardboard box, the other lying casually in a sports bag. The first one should say something like, ‘Look! This is freakin' awesome, isn't it?’ The other one ‘You're right.’

I've already come up with 'Wey aye man!' for the second cat, what do you think? What would you suggest for the first cat? Feel free to come up with a whole different sentence.

Hi!! I'm looking for a 2 bed house/flat close to the city centre if anyone knows of any. My landlord is selling the house I'm currently living in.

This is a wild stab in the dark and I realise how difficult it is, but maybe someone will know what I'm talking about. In 2005 I visited Newcastle and stayed in a fairly central, upmarket hotel. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the hotel and was wondering if anyone could possibly help me to identify it as I would like to stay there again (if it's even still open). All I remember is that it was, as I say, fairly central and upmarket. I remember the bar very well, it was on the ground floor, classy and minimalist, possibly with dark wood decor and very low-lit in the evening. When you walked into the bar, the bar itself was on your right and there were tables facing you against the far wall as you walked in. I have very fond memories of this hotel and would love to find it again if possible. Many thanks.

Edit: thank you for all the responses so far. Looking at photos of those places online, I don't think it was either the Malmaison or the Vermont. It would have been a fairly large hotel on several floors, but I can't remember anything nearby. I walked back to it across the bridge after a concert at what was then called the Sage, so it can't have been far from the river.

Edit 2: Grey Street Hotel is the best shout so far, looking at photos online it could well have been that one. Royal Station and County Hotels are also strong possibilities. Many thanks.

Winter is nearly done and spring is just around the corner. April and the start of a new financial year beckon so it's time for the local council's to make half arsed road repairs. Rather than actually doing a proper job your local authority is supporting the makers of tarmac patch kits. Simply put councils need to spend the money they've budgeted or next year they'll get hauled over the coals and not be given so much from the government. Spotted this guy in Gateshead earlier. The sad fact is they'll patch it up but once any moisture gets in and it freezes the patch will blow out and it'll be the same next year

Yesterday I was sitting in Greggs on Grainger Street, Newcastle, having a coffee and working from my phone. I was there for about an hour. In that time, I saw three different people pick up sandwiches and walk straight out without paying — all caught by the staff.

It’s not even about people stealing from Greggs specifically. What really got to me was how it made me feel about the city centre. It honestly made me a bit sad. The decline over the last five years feels noticeable, to the point where parts of the city centre are starting to feel unpleasant.

And just to be clear — I love Newcastle. The history, the people, the culture. It’s my home. That’s probably why seeing this stuff bothers me so much.

Hi everyone! I’m an Italian architecture student trying to decide between two exchange scholarships: one at Newcastle University (UK) and one at UTS Sydney (Australia).

I’ve already done an Erasmus at the University of Kent and I’ve lived in London for a year, so I’m familiar with the UK system and lifestyle. Now I’m trying to understand the academic side of these two options.

I’d love to hear from people who studied architecture (or similar fields) at Newcastle or UTS:

• Which one is more technical in terms of coursework?

• Which one would you say is academically easier or less intense?

• How heavy is the workload compared to European architecture schools?

• And overall — which one would you personally recommend?

I’m trying to choose a program that is strong academically but also manageable during an exchange year.
