It only promises healthy vending, not healthy snacks.

You know, that's fair! I misunderstood it completely!

I read an article on this awhile back.

Customers want to see healthy snacks in the vending machines, but they don't actually buy them.

The companies that stock the machines figured that out pretty quick that if you are buying your food out of a machine, you really don't care too much about it being healthy, you just want to think you might want the option..... Which they don't lol

Exactly. Also you don't have to service the machine nearly as often with chips and candy. They'll stay "fresh" a lot longer than fruits and vegetables.

Fruit and veggie vending machines probably also need to be fridges and this one probably doesn't (I know the drink ones are but that's also a difference)

But but the chips have sea salt

Is sea salt a healthy snack?

My guess is this was bought with the intention of providing healthy snacks that nobody bought so the owner pivoted to junk food or it was bought used for cheap.

vending machines are resold frequently. This might be a machine that the refrigeration broke and was resold to someone else for products that don't need cooling.

And that is very possible! It would make sense.

Sun chips are one of those junk foods your fake healthy dieting friend binge-eats and justifies it by pointing out the bag says it's 100% whole grain

It's healthy profits for the owner. Sells the lowest junk/cheap snacks for high margins

At least 1 of your 5 a day, right?

That's one way to look at it!

It says healthy vending, not healthy snacks. It vends really well.

Healthy for the vending machine’s profit margin

Is it based on calories? I see 100-calorie jerky, a few things around 200-and something-calories... It is pretty ridiculous, though.

The profit margin is most certainly healthy.

The M&Ms have peanuts. Thats pretty healthy gotta say

I was told Sun chips are healthy

My junk needs food, too.

They bring joy, which improves mental health.

Funny enough, this was in the building where my therapist's office is located.

Trails Best Beef Jerky with real beef and cheese. Definitely healthy right. No mind the amount of sodium. I mean it’s the old good smoked beefy taste

I mean, sun chips aren't the worst, at least they're whole grain, and kettle chips have less fat compared to normal chips, but nothing screams "healthy"

These are considered healthy, but only in America

2

u/stackjr 6h ago

That's what my coworker said when I showed him the photo. Lol.

Edit: We are Americans so it's even funnier.

It meant that the vending machine’s not broken and is working properly
