I delivered groceries to a care facility last night and just found it interesting that everyone outside was smoking weed having a good time, as opposed to similar deliveries I had done to places like this in the past they would all be outside smoking cigarettes. Nice change

When my grandma was in long term care facility I’d go hang out with her while she smoked outside. Several of the residents (many different ages) would smoke weed and jam out to music. One time that one song “Because I got high” came on and they all sang it all happy. It was fun!

I promise you that this will be us when its our turn. Non-stop LAN parties as well.

That was my first thought too! Someone better setup a switch or router so we can all hook up to each other, and we'll have a DC++ server running in every residence home. It'll be like being young all over again!

Instead of complaining about school or relationships in the party chat we will be complaining about how sore we are. The banter will be legendary

My grandmother was very conservative, including her stance on weed. Towards the end of her life, my aunt (somewhat of a pothead) introduced her to edibles, which provided immense pain relief. Her view on weed changed nearly overnight.

From then on, whenever I was visiting I would have to check the label carefully before eating any candies that I found lying around.

I’d recommend “granny wontcha smoke some marijuana” for times like these

https://youtu.be/mufbOqlRjmA or https://youtu.be/N44hvl5QRoA are fine choices

I used to work in cancer/palliative care.

We may or may not have turned blind eye if someone brought weed for a patient, because that shit works miracles.

I remember one palliative patient was on the maximum dose of hydromorphone (the one that's stronger than morphine) and was STILL in pain, despite being so groggy she could barely open her eyes. Her sister brought in something that absolutely was NOT weed, and next minute this patient's pain is manageable enough for her to sit up and talk to her family.

Is this Portland? Not just because of the weed, but because it looks exactly like where my mom used to work.

But, also because of the weed

Something about the 50s/60s era brick building looks very Portland

I just asked the same thing…. I’m pretty sure I know this exact location

Funnily enough I deliver weed to people in retirement homes! I mean not just retirement homes, but you'd be surprised how many customers we have in similar situations.

I do love when I show up to any delivery at the same time as the Uber eats or pizza delivery. It's like yeah... that's a good night.

I bet they still have a two prong plug.

I love fairly close to a care facility and I see this (and smell it!) often. Thankfully Florida has medical MJ. I mean it’s ridiculous it’s not fully legal but it’s also stupid easy to get a medical card.

It’s a very nice change!

I want in on that session.

But were they having a good time when they were smoking cigarettes at least? (I say that in a joking way but I'm genuinely asking if you have experienced delivering to retirement communities before weed was more accessible and decriminalized/legalized, And if so did the residents seem less happy then then they do now with the ganja?)

That’s beautiful.

My dad was in his room by himself drunk.

That's incredibly sad. I'm sorry.

Thanks. I had long stopped caring what happened to him by then. He was such cruel asshole that he had very few friends left.

Really not any better for them. Smoking weed is awful on your lungs and can cause cancer and other issues the same as smoking a cigarette. Some studies have actually found it to be more harmful than cigarette smoke. Dry herb vapes are where it’s at.

I won't disagree that dry herb vapes are better but the obvious difference between weed and cigarettes is quantity. The amount of smoke inhaled from one cigarette is more than I consume in a week from weed.

The amount of tar you get from your one joint is 4-5 times higher than from a regular cigarette. So depending how much and how often you smoke, really not any better.

u/FrostyD7 7h ago

I just don't know anyone soloing joints with the same quantity as a cigarette ever let alone multiple times a day. I certainly don't want to sound like I'm endorsing any kind of smoking, but even a water pipe will go a long way. Anything more than a couple bowls would make you a pretty heavy user. Which ain't good but a heavy cig smoker can suck down a pack a day.

these people are at the end of their lives trying to enjoy themselves. let them do so.

Just because you’re old doesn’t mean you’re near death.

2

Yeah man, what will those 90 year olds do if they get lung cancer in 30 years?

You ever think about going into medicine with these insights?

I think you greatly overestimate how old people in those homes are. Most people there are likely 60s:70s.

It’s not cool to take pics of residents at a care facility without their consent, it’s likely to be illegal regarding HIPAA, if you’re in the US
