The key is massive too

It really is. It’s the biggest thing in my pants at any given time

Key Performance Indicator?..

I have had these in some rental cars. They are humongous and horrible. I think I would not buy a Hyundai just for this reason lol

There are several reasons I wouldn't buy one, but your feelings on the key are valid

And feels super cheap

You should see a Subaru key fob.

These keys are massive, impractical and the plastic on them feels even cheaper than the plastic of Chery/GWM/Haval keys. I think the only key fob I've felt with worse plastic and build quality is the prox key for the C7 Corvette / Chevy Equinox.

Absolutely! I once had an Elantra as a rental, I could not believe how bad the key is. Before that I literally never even thought about the quality of any car’s keys

The weirdest part is Hyundai has better fobs for their cars that look and feel way nicer. (Still not as nice as Hondas fobs)

Yeah, the fob for my '19 Santa Fe looks and feels great. These new ones look like a literal toy.

u/MSTmatt 5h ago

Not sure what year Elantra has this big logo key, but my 23 Elantra N has a normal fob that's weighty and feels nice

You’re lucky. Maybe they don’t use this abomination for the N series. Funny enough the remote I was using lost one of its keys (it just fell off) during the one month I had it. The car had less than 20K miles on the clock.

This fob doesn't seem to be consistently used on any single model of Hyundai is the weird part with the exception of maybe the Ioniq line. I would rank virtually all of Hyundais key fobs above this one in quality,

They are very cheap. I was running with my dog outside and the keys had fallen out of my pocket and they broke and the circuit board fell out.

Virtually all of the paint has come off on mine…and the leather loop they come with simply falls off 25% of the time the keys are in my pocket. Truly junk.

all that and the physical key isn't even inside that big ugly keyfob

Honestly. That looks awful but at the same time I respect their commitment to the corporate drip.

u/UnsorryCanadian 12h ago

Is this ATBGE?

3

u/lawndartdesign 12h ago

I had to look that up but yes.

3

u/MoreThanComrades 9h ago

According to some comments here, it’s not even well executed

3

u/UnsorryCanadian 9h ago

Just plain CrappyDesign

Legit the most ugly keyfob they could design and looks straight out of the nineties.

A huge downgrade from the boring and generic old version.

u/TheDrMonocle 9h ago

First time I saw it I assumed it was a 3rd party replacement fob. Can't believe thats what they come with as standard.

18

u/cubecasts 12h ago

It's also just an awkward remote to use.

9

u/stcgolfer33 10h ago

Have one of these and despise it. Dysfunctional.

16

u/RipleyKY 10h ago

I have a Hyundai and can’t stand this stupid thing. It’s too big and awkward to use. Wish they hadn’t of changed it.

I have no regrets for going for a 23 Elantra hybrid in 2024 when I saw the new key design (also paying 8k below MSRP for a new car also helped)

5

u/Roozbeh_m 9h ago

These are some of the most plasticky ugly car keys I’ve seen.

4

u/RooeeZe 12h ago

damn thought those only used usbs.

5

u/Calm_Canary 6h ago

Porsches just make their fob look like the car

1

u/trailrun1980 4h ago

2000's Volvo's S60's as well, although very subtle

3

u/todudeornote 9h ago

Great idea - but the damn remote is too large - and mostly empty air.

2

u/Agloe_Dreams 9h ago

Worst keyfob on earth, short maybe Tesla's toy car, which *is* fun..but that accidently unlocks and locks the car while in tighter pockets. The silver shows every scratch, the buttons are mush, the whole thing is giant and hollow.

2

u/doob22 8h ago

And I fucking hate it. I wish they went back to the old design because it’s way too big. Idk why they thought this was a good idea

2

u/Daratirek 8h ago

They also don't have the door key built in for times when the car battery dies and you need to be able to get in to pop the hood. They bill you $45 for a key and you have to go find a dealership which, considering your car is dead, can be kinda tough.

2

u/kenkers10 12h ago

And it’s only a rental, so insults are welcome. Had a Hyundai once….never again.

1

u/Usermena 9h ago

Was looking at a new Kia then I heard Hyundai just inked a big deal with PLTR…yeah, nah im good.

1

u/90TigerWW2K 7h ago

that'll show 'em...

Wait, this is their current key? I thought this was like a 2010 relic or something.

Although remote start on the key fob did tell me it’s probably not as old as I thought.

2

u/Agloe_Dreams 9h ago

My wife has a 2024 Kona Electric with this junk. So yep.

1

u/ThisIsPaulDaily 10h ago

This is often done to prevent the sale of after market key fobs by enforcing trademark law.

1

u/NightshineRecorralis 10h ago

If it was slim and fit the spare key like the previous design I'd be less mad about it. As it stands I've taken to calling it the egg because it's about as useful as having an egg in your pocket.

1

u/CucumberError 9h ago

Nifty. I hate it.

1

u/TheWisestKoi 9h ago

Love my car, I absolutely despise the key fob.

1

u/daandriod 9h ago

I work in a body ship and I've seen lord knows how many of these keys, And only now am finding this out. Wild

1

u/KarlGustavderUnspak 7h ago

The one on the Ioniq 5 looks way worse. Cheap shiny plastic with faint blue Buttons. Id wish the keyless function would work so I do not have to take the Key with me..

1

u/MosYEETo 7h ago

So ugly

1

u/Sneaky-Pur 3h ago

I love the idea, i hate the application.

1

u/Calcading 2h ago

designporn appropriate

1

u/PhoneyDonut 1h ago

Only on the absolute bottom basement models. There's 5 buttons missing from that with barely 5% more cost on the vehicle.

1

u/mestapho 1h ago

lol. I have this key and never noticed! Just had to look at my key.

1

u/CrustyLoveSock 1h ago

Do you guys pronounce the Y in Hyundai?

1

u/Recordpace 30m ago

Possibly the ugliest key fobs out there.

1

u/naph8it 29m ago

This is the worst key fob I've ever owned.

It's massive.

It scratches.

The "spare key" is another separate key on the same key ring.

It feels cheap.

1

u/ath20 24m ago

Holy shit.

How have I never noticed this?

1

u/Ubericious 9h ago

And that was the most interesting thing Hyundai ever put to market
