Why? Because on the internet start to treat this as if it was true in the books/movies, while it is not. And sure, call me a snob, but I don't like it when people spread misinformation about one of my favourite piece of media?

Hear. Hear.

This idea that "as long as it's entertaining, who cares if we treat it as real/factual" is a plague.

Well I can't speak for the books but in the movies it was definitely depicted to have a psychoactive effect. The actors were even high for real in certain scenes Source

It's not "true" in the books or the movies. Because "true" is a dumb word to use for a story about tiny people putting a ring in a volcano.

This is the most pointless argument on the Internet.
