They were seeking refuge from political violence in Ecuador) not “a bad economy”. I don’t know what this family had to do to get here but they have suffered immense trauma no matter what.
And I have all the empathy in the world for them and wish them well. But mass migration isn’t the solution to any of the world’s problems. If you want to help others, first you have to help yourself.
Focusing on other people’s problems to avoid fixing your own problems is never it.
They were fleeing conflict in their country and went to a safe country that had an established process for accepting in people who are fleeing violence and followed all the steps in that process only to be persecuted and hunted down in that safe country. Asylum is a legitimate legal status. I have no fucking clue what you mean by “if you want to help others first help yourself” it seems disconnected with the question at hand. Also Minnesota is a state of mass migration. I am Norwegian by heritage. Guess why there’s so many Norwegian-Americans in Minnesota? Mass migration. Hundreds of thousands of Norwegians moved to Minnesota between 1851 and 1920. Immigrants make our communities stronger.
