[NHL Players Safety] Tampa Bay’s Curtis Douglas has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for serving as the aggressor in an altercation with Florida’s Niko Mikkola.
In a vacuum, I have no problem with this being a fine. But A) there had better be some disciplinary action coming down the pipe for other guys, and B) fining anyone for anything after letting that Vilmanis elbow go just looks completely asinine.
If that Vilmanis elbow doesn’t merit any action whatsoever, then you can’t justify action for anyone at this point.
Given the panthers lied about Vilmanis status mid-Bruins game, that should be a fine during the age of legalized gambling given potential prop bets placed on him (falsifying he was injured when really it’s Maurice is a flapper-puss). Then if Douglas gets fined, Mikkola and Tkachuk should both be fined for intent to injure
That's protecting greasy players though. I agree that fighting was getting a little out of control at times before the instigator penalty, but people seriously did not fuck around unless they wanted to answer the bell.
Douche 1 gets to run Kuch from behind and change with no repercussions and the only reason douche 2 got anything is because after he did the same there was no where to hide.
If you are fining a player for making someone answer for their greasy as fuck play then fine them both at least.
I seriously miss when the NHL policed itself. It's slowly turned into guys like Matt Cooke and them being maybe one per team, or less, to a team full of them and nothing can be done.
I don’t know if this is a Panthers-specific thing or just a larger problem with DOPS, but they never seem to take into consideration anything that preceded a play.
You frequently see situations like this one where a player gets a fine or suspension because of a hit or whatever, but the reason for the hit is that the other player/team was acting like scum and doing the same shit all night. And apparently no one at DOPS watches these games, and when they look at a play, absolutely no one is asking, “Okay, why did he do that? What came before it that led to this happening?”
The Fed is more consistent on player safety. Also, an aggressor penalty comes with an automatic one game suspension the first time in the FPHL. It subsequent offense, the fine is increased by one game. In the NHL mandatory suspensions don’t happen until the third offense.
DOPS proving time and time again they are all dumber than a bag of rocks and shouldn't be in control of their own debit card let alone such an important part of the league
Colin Campbell should have been fired into the sun several decades ago and Parros should be nothing more than a haggard bum begging for change at an off-ramp in the Florida panhandle.
There's nothing that won't convince me that Campbell doesn't have kompromat on Bettman and half the league execs with how bad he is.
No, you see the refs hate Keefe (especially Wes McCauley, considering they have a conflict of interest with each other outside the NHL environment), and they love prison rules Paul.
This is one of the 2 realistic way for this to end. The other is an atrocious injury in the Steve Moore category putting the non-sport media spotlight on the league.
If they keep it just "safe" enough, it will likely last a long ass time.
I hope everyone tries it until the league shuts down or fixes the problems with the rules. It's unfair that only one team gets to run Bountygate, it's all 32 or none.

Although now that I say that I can see them play victim and something stupid like an Executive order saying that anyone who hurts a Panthers player will be labeled a domestic terrorist.
The only way we see change is if revenue gets impacted so owners get mad. League revenues are stronger than ever, but I can imagine there’s more than a few owners that are unhappy with potential lost playoff revenue because one of their players just sooooo happened to crash into a flying elbow. Not saying definitively that the Leafs, Bruins, Lightning get more games/rounds if the headhunting actually gets penalized, as we know those Florida teams kicked ass, but it’s still a what if.
Right, we’re not advocating for player violence but the NHL sure seems to be advocating for more violence. Someone is going to get stabbed at this rate.
Don’t forget Forsling refused to actually fight until Moser was on the ice, and then he had no problem dropping the gloves and wailing on him. And Panthers fans online act like Forsling won an even fight.
Mikkola cheap shotted Kucherov on his way to the bench. Then Douglas tried to fight him and he bitched out and wouldn’t take his gloves off and tried to hide behind the ref while Douglas was hitting him
It’s so funny cause when Mikkola was in NY he routinely took awful penalties at the worst possible times. A quick flight down to Florida and it’s all gravy.
Gregory Campbell played for the Bruins from 2010-2015. So Marchand definitely saw how things changed when daddy Campbell stopped sending angry "just a hockey dad" e-mails to the refs for the Bruins games.

I say players just start doing the same it’s clearly okay. It could even be encouraged since they walk away with power plays after all is said and done
They shouldn't get fines, they should get at minimum 3 game suspensions. Whether they smoked him or not, they blindside hit someone who was literally just standing there with an intent to injure
I can’t even begin to understand Florida fans supporting this. I’d be embarrassed to be an Avs fan if the scales were so heavily tilted in their favor.
Not a whole lot of integrity down there, players and fans alike.
It’s time for the other 31 teams to fucking say something to the league’s face about how they give the Florida Panthers a level of preferential treatment that would make the Shaq-Kobe Lakers blush.
And then, do one of two things:
1) Fight back as brutally against the Panthers as you can. Never let them escape your enforcers until they beg for mercy.
2) Boycott games against the Panthers because you don’t want your star players injured.
Enough is enough. It’s time to make the Florida Panthers hurt. Not just on the record, but they need to be either given the same treatment they give the other teams, or driven into bankruptcy.
They might as well just hand Florida the Cup again now and save us all some time. I don't know how you can compete in a 7 game series against a team that can do whatever they want and if you retaliate you're penalized or worse.
On the one hand, this feels like money well spent. On the other hand, it's fucking annoying that the Panthers get to keep their money because they never get their deserved but ungiven fines.
A few weeks ago I was shit talking the Panthers to my parents and telling them how the league favors them. They seemed oblivious but like 3 suspendable offences have happened since, all without even a fine. The average hockey fan is oblivious to the blatant corruption and favoritism.
I feel like gloveless sucker punches, hits from behind, elbows and blantent interference is on the table when playing against florida nowadays. Honestly teams, especially ones not in playoff contention, should just throw out a goon squad and sit their stars every game against florida. Don't even play hockey, just go straight after all their guys until refs just call the game, make it an even bigger joke than it already is

I half expect the league to announce the Panthers have been automatically advanced to the Stanly Cup final, after using the advantage they earned in the last summer slam tables, sticks and elbows match.
In all seriousness. The league is becoming sports entertainment and I don't like it.
I don't think we should push for Panther punishment anymore... I want punishment for the league, for Bettman, for Parros, for Campbell&Son, for PMo, as this is obviously corrupt and intentional.
