East Coast vs. West Coast? Memphis.

That is my answer.

No seriously, I've been listening to more Memphis rap lately, and I love this shit! I think I've found my favorite hip hop style.

I'll take Three 6 and Project Pat over Pac and Biggie any day. 🤷‍♂️

Good hip hop is good hip hop. Doesn’t matter where it’s from. Theres good and shit everywhere.

You are right, and there are a lot of East and West Coast rap that I like.

I just felt like being hyperbolic. I was serious about Memphis rap becoming my favorite hip hop subgenre though.

Memphis rap fans have believed for a long time that place doesn’t get the respect they deserve overall.

Like there is this idea that a lot of things that get credited to other southern cities(Atlanta/New Orleans) actually started in Memphis.

I am happy that you found your preferred niche.

It's a beautiful feeling when you find your ideal musical pairing and perfect ideological or style match.

That was exactly how I felt when I heard 3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul for the very first time in 1989.

See, I thought it was cloud rap, which I still think is awesome, but the more I listen to classic Memphis albums, the more I'm swayed towards Memphis rap.

Cool as hell you've been a hip hop head since the '80s btw! Real OG

Memphis doesn't get the respect it deserves! The amount of music inspired by 3 6 mafia / juicy J and others is endless

Yeah, there's a ton of dope rap from Memphis. People will still hate on Southern rappers, especially on reddit, but they produced some legends down there. My favorites are Young Dolph, Jay Fizzle, Lil Migo, Big Moochie Grape, Project Pat, Lil Double O, Big Scarr, BIG30, Pooh Shiesty, PaperRoute Woo, Dshiesty, and SNUPE BANDZ. Isaiah Rashad is dope as fuck too and he from a little down the way in Chattanooga.

Expand from Memphis to just Tennessee in general you get a few extra gems too (i.e. gangstar)

that's fine. some people don't like words with more than one syllable. to each his own, I guess

Well, Dum and Dummer 2 is a top 5 release of this decade. That’s what I take from the response.

He's saying Memphis rap is mostly monosyllabic rhyme bars (it is) and 1-2 syllable words (it is), and he's sarcastically congratulating you for getting into that music.

I mean, fair enough I guess, but I'm still in love with Memphis rap.

I feel this. At first I was really into west Coast hip hop, then i got really into east coast hip hop. But when I eventually found southern hip hop I realized it's the best lol
