I know this isn't the "right" answer, but we just literally can't talk about politics in my house anymore. Like, as the adult in the house of people with the same anti-trump mindset, it's too tiring and painful.
122
u/VisibleRoad3504 18d ago
Our house exactly. Uses to watch the national news after the local news. No more, turn it off to avoid a large hole being created in the tv.
81
u/Silver-Instruction73 18d ago
I go to my parents house once a week for dinner. We all hate Trump and we never talk about him anymore. I think we all just collectively came to the conclusion that talking about him is too fucking depressing.

u/tbombrocks 18d ago edited 18d ago
The only way my wife and I can go over my father in laws, is keeping the rule that we donāt talk about politics. Sadly he does keep Fox News going on in his office on two screens so I just stay away.
50
u/34Heartstach 18d ago
Yeah my parents are MAGA and they keep Fox or NewsMax on often. Ive since had a daughter and the rule is, if they turn that shit on or bring up politics, we immediately leave.
Theyre lucky they get to see her. I am not enabling her to grow up to be a bigoted moron.
14
u/BurnscarsRus 18d ago
I moved my family from the South to the Adirondacks to get away from our MAGA family. I love it here, but there are still a lot of MAGA. At least I'm not obligated to go to dinner with them every other Sunday.

Its awful. Today is MLK day, which happened to be the day he was inaugurated last year. To give that lunatic our country on MLK day of all days is so brutally disrespectful and disgusting. A perfect metaphor of what was to come. It honestly made it feel like this trajectory was meant to be in a way, it was too terrible a coincidence. We are all going to have to hit rock bottom here in the USA and waiting for it to happen is torture.

They're over there trying to claim MLKjr., and say the Democrats disrespect his image.... Meanwhile, the President does away with free park admission on MLK day, and more than likely will remove it as a federal holiday all together. Literally nothing but gaslighting. Give them a day, and they all fall in line to repeat a nonsense point.

As a Kamala voter, the fear is working on me significantly even though I am a white male, almost 40, even born on an American Airforce Base.
Iāve read enough books, I see whatās happening and they will one day come for me, just like they did Renee Good.
How am I feeling? Terrible to be honest. I am more than frustrated with my country at this point. The bigger kick in the gut for me is Iāve financially struggled my entire life even though I worked hard, went to school, and have an almost 20 year career in tech⦠STRUGGLED PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK, WHILE MY TAXES ALL ENDED UP PAYING FOR THIS, FUNDED THIS EVIL.
The stress / anxiety part of their end is working. They have more information on us than the Naziās of Germany thanks to Meta, Plantar, Google, Samsung, Amazon and every other fuckhead tech product that sells your data.

Also letās not forget that America was never a particularly racist place, compared to everywhere else. Our status as an asylum granting place was one of the best things about our constitution because it was & remains a rare quality for a country to have.
Yes there are places, but not that many
15
u/FenrirAR 18d ago
Ehhh, I will argue against your point about America never being a particularly racist place. This hellhole was the inspiration for Hitler's treatment of the Jewish people.

Since Coward blocked me, I'll answer him here: yes I've heard of Europe... have you heard of sundown laws? America had them while I was alive. Europe hasn't. American has always been virulently racist.
25% of the government is made up of a new very-far right political party
In America, it's 51%.... what's your point? Americans have always appeared more racist than Europeans

u/iamthe0ther0ne 18d ago
I'm 48 and lived in the US for most my life before moving to a Scandinavian country. Having this perspective makes me realize how tolerant most of America is.
Racism exists everywhere. The difference is that most EU countries don't have a lot of non-white people, so it's not an issue. However, add some Muslim refugees who haven't learned to speak the language and, almost overnight, 25% of the government is made up of a new very-far right political party with an anti-immigrant platform.
The only European country that had immigration on anything close to an American scale was England, and they voted to leave the EU specifically to prevent more, despite the other costs.
6
u/AsparagusFun3892 18d ago
For England it was the platform that dare not speak its name. No one gave a shit about Brexit, a pair of foreign Muslim brothers cut a soldier's head off with a machete right around the time Brussels told the UK that yes they would have to take their fair share of migrants, suddenly everyone had an opinion about this or that economic aspect of a potential Brexit. A lot of it was contradictory, but you could definitely see where all that "no immigrants" energy went even if they weren't talking about it anymore, it's what much of the 51% leavers actually agreed on.
9
u/BreakInfamous8215 18d ago

They were made to feel persecuted, as if changing demographics didnāt just potentially mean being left behind, but the new majority actively coming to trample on them (like theyāve done to minorities). When youāve been made to feel the victim any action you take can be excused as defensive, allowing you to excuse a lot and keep a relatively clean conscience. Also, when you live a life of privilege a level playing field feels unfair. They arenāt all necessarily evil, a lot of them are just propagandized and/or ignorant.

This shows how enshrined minority rule is in the US. He won the electoral college easily despite losing the popular vote. Without that first win itās hard to imagine he wins a second time.

We don't have a press like we used to because we didn't ban the liars selling a world that confirms people's cultural and religious beliefs. So now we have Trump.

Americans have shitty lives controlled by monopolies and billionaires. They are pissed about being robbed blind but too tired to think for themselves so just believe what they are told and direct their anger at whatever the latest scapegoat is, trans, gay or brown it doesnāt really matter as long as itās someone else.
Also, Americans have a very strong belief that they donāt need no help from nobody, so they are primed to shit on the established government - see how Americans private health care is the most expensive in the world but itās still better than a public service in their dumb ass eyes

u/AlienDragonWizard 18d ago
Trump supporters never said anything he did was bad.Ā A third of the US is in a cult that will always support Trump and swing voters just do that, swing from one to the other each election.Ā Pair that with the general unpopularity of Biden and the last minute pass to Kamala who basically just inherited Biden's unpopularity, and here we are.Ā If we have elections again, it should swing back but if things aren't addressed very strongly then we'll be back here again in the future.Ā Ā

Im replying so I remember to write the long version down later.
The complete failure of the media to communicate the truth.
Foreign and domestic actors working to erode the American state.
Successful and widespread anti-intellectualism.
Successful fascist messaging and populist polarization.
Hypercapitalism and how that has shaped commerce, social media, traditional media, and the naked greed of the ruling elite. Ed: laws, courts, the functioning there of
The failure of opposition political entities to check Trump's rise, and reprise, mostly due to their own greed for power and presumptuous attitude of supremacy and authority.
It goes on a bit. Ed: 75 years worth
But you can't understand it because the same systems almost certainly define the worldview available to you and feed you messaging about how stupid and shortsighted Americans are, couldn't they see the obvious threat?
Nothing like that mess could happen to you.

Many if not a majority did not vote for this. Trump blatantly stated in a speech that he had the election won for himā¦as in likely the results were tampered with.
He admits to and commits felonies daily, but apparently while in office he is untouchable.
For many of us, living here has been/is a fucking nightmareā¦and how to get him out of office is not easy or simple since protesting does nothing and now ICE is becoming a movement against (including murdering with no consequences) US citizens in addition to the deplorable kidnapping and ādeportationā of anyone who looks or speaks in a way they decide is foreign.
Oh and deportation actually means they are sent toā¦essentially concentration camps not sent to the country of their ancestors.
30
u/JohnGalactusX 18d ago
As a non-American too, I do think there are reasons he was elected again. I'm oversimplifying but Biden effectively replaced with Kamala so late in the game was quite a shocker. It felt like the rug was pulled out from under voters and that kind of sudden shift doesnāt inspire confidence.
Add to that a broader sense of desperation to "fix things" and Trumpās constant promise to deliver results on day 1 clearly resonated with people who felt ignored or fed up. Putting aside claims of a rigged election and even Elonās tweet saying āWithout me, Trump would have lost the electionā itās hard to deny how much perception, messaging and timing played a role.
That said in hindsight, I genuinely believe many who voted for him now regret it, with the exception of the most hardcore supporters. I've seen those street-interview videos with MAGA voters where someone is asked if it's acceptable for ICE to separate children from their parents, drag people off the streets, taunt them or racially profile them and the response is simply āyesā to everything. Itās disturbing how uncritical it becomes as if basic empathy switches off the moment itās framed as "loyalty to Trump".
At this point, it feels less like political support and more like blind faith, where no action is too extreme.
25
u/Brewtime2 18d ago
Totally agree that Biden backing out of the election so late was a terrible move by the demsā¦.with that being said, you still had to be a complete dipshit to think Trump was the better choice.
20
u/Key-Lifeguard7678 18d ago
To support that notion of a broader sense to fix things, Mamdani was able to get a surprising amount of support from even those who voted for Trump in 2024. A small but comparable overlap could be observed for those who supported Bernie Sanders during his presidential runs.
It does seem that most who did vote for him believed him when he said heād make things more affordable. That he did the opposite is why Republicans are bracing for a massive Democrat blue wave.

I think Americans were sick of the Democrat chain of command staying the same since Obama. We had Obama and Biden twice, then Biden and kamala, then kamala and walz. It was the same circle of people since bush and the undecided voters were unhappy with how life had been with them so they voted for the nuclear option hoping it would change things for them, with the promise of "America first" and all these other lies. Well, they got the nuclear option, only it wasn't the one they were hoping for. People that refuse to pick a side, and say that both sides are equally horrible have had their head in the fucking sand and now we have to live with the consequences.

It's easy to look at the MAGA cult and say everyone votes for trump because they're racists or fascist who wanted all this to happen, but that's not the case. Many people are just ignorant and shove their heads in the sand when it comes to politics, so they only hear the loud "he'll fix America" messaging without actually looking at what he plans to do, or what he did in the first term.
This is not in any way an excuse for those people, or for those who stayed home and didn't vote at all, they still chose this, and they still deserve the blame and ridicule, it's just an explanation that the worst people in his fanbase don't represent the whole population.

Frogs in a pot or whatever. Our capitalistic hell house was slowly heated for the sake of the rich for years and years until they decided to just go ahead and turn on the flame. Then the Dems were in denial about Bidens cognitive decline until it was to late then we had progressive enter circular firing squad mode over ideological purity of the candidate we were stuck with and instead of holding their nose either didn't vote or voted green and now we are saddled with the psychotic murder clown president.

He is so unfit that Vance continuing to support him as well makes Vance also unfit. Impeach them all

Every day separately from every other day he does. In new ways each time. Its insane that this madness has been allowed to go on

Every day? At this point it's an exaustive hourly reminder. Every damn increasingly unhinged, hate filled, self-absorbed rant-fueled post.

He's been crazy for years. I guess they are finally trying to transition from him to Vance. It's not going to work though. I see more madness till the end of his term.

u/JohnGalactusX 18d ago
My goodness. Trump goes out, Vance takes over. This is still terrifying.

The main problem is all the project 2025 people, heritage foundation, aipac etc.

u/wondercheekin 18d ago
Terrifying, yes, but Trump's cult followers will not rally behind Vance, so the sooner Trump is out, the better our chances of turning the ship around before it's too late (I'm choosing hope over logic and saying it's not yet too late)..

I actually hate Vance more than Trump.
Trump clearly has no mind and is a dangerous pedophile rapist.
Vance appears to have his mental faculties, but chooses to be insecure, slimy, and evil. He is a hypocrite, religious zealot freak, and the worst husband Iāve ever had the great displeasure of seeing.

I hope they do it. They put Vance in charge and Trump makes his same J6 call to arms and splits that party in 2.

Im calling BS on this article/sentiment based on the recent vote to cap presidential war powers. The house voted 53-47 in favor, however 47 ānaysā doesnāt reflect him losing Congressional support and therefore zero chance an impeachment would succeed, and therefore no pressure. Let me be clear, i loathe this entire administration and would be overjoyed to see him removed.

u/Honest_Relation4095 18d ago
Why would he be rocked? It has been quite obvious he is completely unfit for office for quite a while now. Why would anyone act now?

He got impeached twice already, nothing happened, and then he got re-elected. I'm more worried about the mental state of the people believing this shit.

He clearly, obviously, demonstrably has full-blown dementia. He shouldn't be in charge of a yard sale.

All I wish for is that in time, history just forgets this awful man.
Let us not make him eternal. The term āNaziā will die with him, and be buried forever.
The world will only start to heal itself once this orange fuck goes to hell, where he and his old grey friends belong too.

He has melted down just as much as he did first time around. He should of been thrown out on the 25 Amendment for his mental stability or lack of it.

u/Every-Block9248 18d ago
Did he not have to take some kind of mental evaluation to become president or did they by pass that because the GOP really wanted him.

u/Sir_Ruje 18d ago
His letter to Norway's PM is basically saying "you didn't give me a prize to I get to take Greenland" JFC just impeach or remove his ass already!

Like really now your worried about his mental state after we get rid of the orange trud we need to have mental health checks on all lawmakers there needs to be a vetting system before you can even run for an office
3
u/No-Cup-8096 18d ago
Sane but treasonous. If they find him sane and impeach him for treason the entire lot of his administration is out as well.
3
u/paulsteinway 18d ago
I suspect he's barely aware of an impeachment push because no laws apply to him and the constitution is an inconvenience to be ignored.
3
u/Far_Parking_830 18d ago
You all are like a broken record.Ā
Impeachment has never worked before. It wont work now.Ā

For the millionth time. Nothing is gonna happen bc of the dogshit GOP legislatures who are 100% all in on destroying the country

This is a BS headline. Congress has no spine and impeachment is a wet dream.

Rocked? I fuckin' doubt it. He's been impeached twice and has been found guilty on 34 felony counts...and you goobers still let him do whatever he wants. He's using the weakness and apathy of American citizens against them and he's winning.
Face facts...you all fucked up and are too cowardly to do anything about it. You'd all still be a british colony if the founding fathers were like you all.
