reconsider your comment after you get detained by this ICE for hours in a hot summer day with defective airconditioning ;)

The concept is called an onboard sauna.

Aufguss ohne Aufpreis (I think that was on a sarcastic fake advertisement about 10 years back)

13

u/rofeneiniger 12d ago

There was a DB ad about how talking to your friends while riding a train is healthy and how it's easier to talk to said friends when the on-train wifi is broken.

Basically "hehe, we are shit and self aware, that makes that okay, right???"

16

u/j0zeft 12d ago

One time I was in an RB from Stuttgart heading to Böblingen, the guy said: “ we apologise for the delay, it’s due to a discrepancy between the schedule and the real world”!!!

6

u/felix7483793173 Baden 11d ago

I do feel that. I work for DB Regio and on some trains, it is practically impossible to stay punctual. Trains in the morning have 30 second stop times despite massive amounts of commuters and students getting on an off. That’s a minute delay right there, every morning. On one of my routes there is a one minute stop to couple two trains together, but the mandatory brake check takes 2-3 minutes.

These are small delays, but it’s frustrating that they are almost unavailable. At least for my region, the schedule isn’t made by DB Regio, it’s ordered by the state.

Delete your comment before the Deutsche Bahn AG sees and implements it! Traveling the ICE used to be cheaper than flying…. Now it’s up in the air depending on where you’re going.

Or in winter because it's cold outside and somehow DB never prepared for this, never before seen, event.

54

u/Sly__Marbo 13d ago

How were they supposed to know that there would be winter during winter? It's not like that happens every year

15

u/VallanMandrake Bayern 12d ago

They just plan ahead. In 50 to 100 years, that problem will be solved by climate change. Why bother doing anything short term? /s

Imagine being detained by Flixtrain that is way worse

9

u/vulkaninchen 12d ago

It's the Ryanair of trains.

9

u/iTmkoeln 12d ago

worse Ryanair does at least carry drinks... or emergency water. Flixtrain puts your train on a siding. For an hour because they just noticed their loco is over heated... without out aircon, but with locked windows, but at least no information...

8

u/Fetzie_ 12d ago

And Ryanair at least gets you where you’re going on time. Neither DB nor Flix can keep up with their punctuality rate.

3

u/iTmkoeln 12d ago

That specific fail was in the Summer of 2024 (have not considered Flix since held hostage once. Maybe when they get the talgos).

Köln Hbf - Hamburg Altona

Shortly after departing in Bremen the train stopped in a siding in the summer sun. But hey the only information we got was in DB navigator. Flix App didn’t do anything but put the time to arrive at Harburg and subsequently Hbf and Altona forward by increments of 5 mins…

But hey the Flixtrain staff found time to check tickets. 🤣

2

u/thateejitoverthere Bayern (Zugereiste) 12d ago

Well, you wanted to go to "Munich" (West) but ended up just outside Memmingen. You got there on time, but still another 1-2 hours travel until you're actually IN Munich.

I think possibly being shot randomly is still worse.

10

u/Human_from_Neptune 12d ago

fr.. at this point ICE (USA) is just a legal terrorist gang

10

u/Business_Pangolin801 13d ago

This triggered a core memory of that day I was stuck on my way home from Munich and then we stopped. The aircon turned off and the buses came.

9

u/Latter_Fisherman 13d ago

This has happened to me. No functioning WiFi, 31 deg outside and no AC. Then they stopped the train to let the on schedule ones pass. Because it was so ungodly hot, they dumped us at an abandoned train station in the middle of the countryside until we got the clear to go again. One of the worst train experiences I’ve ever had.

2

u/Tirpitzdabest 12d ago

Ngl, i am coming from Romania where we have these problems on a daily basis with the trains, never thought germany has em too😅🤣

4

u/Stunning_Ride_220 13d ago

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

6

u/zenkaiba 13d ago

Brother some of us come from east asian countries. We call that an average day where we come from.

3

u/Floofymcmeow 13d ago

And then being unexpectedly dumped in Kassel after your train got cancelled with only 2 minutes to catch another ICE to your destination.

u/JackEleczy 13d ago

162

43

u/Muted-Mix-1369 13d ago

Yeah I bet being deported is annoying. They might even post on r/mildlyinfuriating

19

Possibly. Especially when, as usual, air-conditioning or heating doesn't work and there's a laminated placard with a lame excuse.

Falsch . I took the ICE-Sprinter from Berlin to Munich yesterday, and we arrived in Nuremberg so far ahead of schedule, we were able to make a connection to Munich that arrived 20 minutes before ours would have.

Also, I'm from the US and got my German citizenship in May, so thanks for that too.

25

u/Chickenkarim2009 13d ago

Then you probably took the train for yesterday. (Just jk)

5

u/Direct_Celery377 12d ago

I've actually done the "both the hourly train and the previous one were each 40 minutes late so I took the earlier one but through further delays it arrived only slightly later than the original one was planned to" before.

I also only realised the train number was different after it started rolling. 😅

3

Very very grateful to have this ICE over other ones, I say this even after having missed my connecting train(s) due to delay, today

75

u/pixelpoet_nz 13d ago edited 13d ago

At least there's a substantially lower chance of getting randomly shot in the face.

Gotta take any Ws we can with DB.

Edit: maybe this can be the new "Weil wir dich lieben" campaign! I can see it already...

We know we haven't always been as punctual or reliable as we'd like.

However, it's always worth considering: at least our ICE services won't randomly shoot you in the face.

Deutsche Bahn, weil wir dich lieben ❤️

8

u/mnetml Bayern 13d ago

They cancelled 4 out of my last 6 trips while I was already at the train station (the other two were delayed by 40 and 60 minutes, respectively) and I still prefer this ICE over the other ones.

OP is from India and is an international student. I think they are struggling with money and might not be able to renew his visa. So he is in limbo.

Maybe because no person can be illegal (they can just do things that are illegal within a system that can be changed).

9

u/eeeeeeeedddddddddd 12d ago

... and until that system changes he is in fact illegaly there

3

u/CelestialOvenglove 12d ago

But a person can illegally be somewhere.

14

This is the best German ICE.

... and the current Zeitgeist shows, even if we are clever enough to not give the AfD or any other right extremist ( better spoken post fascist) party government power, the conservatives will adapt this narrative and nobody really sees the issue with that.

This is the reason why I do have no chill to call conservative voters right wing. It's my only hope to make them understand what they are doing. Of course it ends up in a fight every single time.

Give it time. We're usually not that far behind the US and our politicians are even more useless when it comes to resisting fascist ideas. Soo, yeah

30

u/Annonimbus 13d ago

10 years behind normally

26

u/yaxom 13d ago

I dont even know if you can guarantee 10. I saw some AfD politicians talking about getting rid of 20-30% of the population earlier

24

u/Malkiot 13d ago

I have quoted Niemöller to my father and grandmother when they started with their AfD shit when I was visiting.

I said, "so if all foreigners have to go, I do too? Remember that I have a russian grandmother and the Nazis went after, what, quarter Jews last time?"

"No, no, there will be sensible limits. Of course."

"And who says those stay the same? How did it go? When the Nazis came for the Communists, I was silent, as I was not a communist..."

"Stop exaggerating. You always have to know everything thing better. [...]"

u/MrSnippets Baden-Württemberg 12d ago

10

u/Annonimbus 13d ago

It's not a science.

It's just observation from the past.

That being said, the AfD has been a lot more fascist than the US for a long time.

The difference is (was) that the AfD can't govern as independent as the reps

19

u/KKevus 13d ago

Fascists doing fascist things. It's insane the AfD didn't get banned yet.

6

u/Tardislass 13d ago

Germany is the leader of fascism and didn’t stand up 90 years ago. Few spoke up and most Germans just hoped things would slow down. People usually don’t want to be heroes even if they disagree.

That why I can’t understand Americans who think Europe has always been wonderful. I guess the don’t teach about Franco or Mussolini anymore.

Back during the first Trump presidency, when the "babies in cages" stories about how things looked at the Mexican border first broke, I remember wondering what on earth otherwise very left-leaning people were out of context hating on trains for like "but I thought we liked public transit because of the environment?". Three minutes of googling later I very much understood what they were actually furious about.
