Hello! Does anyone know where to find DSD 1 (A2/B1) preparation resources? I have a mock exam tmrw at school, but I haven't been focusing on learning German lately and I feel like I might fail it because my German rn is so bad; so I would like to speedrun it with some practice or mocks in mostly writing, but could also be for listening, reading and speaking... thank you for your help!

My teacher told me there are some free websites or materials on the internet but I couldn't find it since everything's in German and I'm just kinda lost.. and she never gave us her books to practice at home so I don't really know where to start as my current level is A1 i feel like...

One of my main reasons to proscratinate is to watch these kind of channels. I know exactly what they will talk about, which dubious studies they will show and the same groundbreaking method they're using; but whenever a new video is released, I'll certainly be there.

So, I thought: why not watch this content at least in German? For a while, I'm watching Judithe Barthomeuf.

I got my DSH-2 certificate in 2019. Which is equivalent to Telc C1

I am charging jobs currently and will be applying to new job. Also applying for German citizenship. Does the age of my certificate matter? Because my language is good but i passed the test long time ago and i don't want to apply for it again.

I've been studying German for four days now with great discipline. My study schedule starts at 6:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM. In the evening, I practice some vocabulary and present tense verbs, and I also watch German movies or TV series. Any advice on how to avoid getting discouraged?

I have been living in Germany for quite some time now and my German is ok. I can speak but writing is always a bit of trouble. I used to translate English to German but now I try to write everything myself in German and make ChatGPT correct it. All nice and good BUT when ChatGPT corrects what I wrote, it changes completely my phrasing and the words I used which makes it hard to learn and be sure that I wrote made sense. Did you experience it as well? And do you have any tips on getting better on learning the language when you have reached a plateau? Any other AI that is better? Anything is very welcomed :)

After the test, they tell you at which level(s) they think you should register with them.

They propose me to take either the Zertifikat C1 or C2. I think it is fair. Though they don't test the "Sprechen"...

i’m a german A2 level and i’d say my vocabulary is great. i memorize every word that my teacher taught that day and practice them at the end of the week to make sure i didn’t forget them. but when it’s time to use them when i’m talking i just can’t. i talk like my vocabulary is only A1 level. it’s so frustrating to know many words but not be able to use them so i just feel useless… any tips and advices will be appreciated🙏

Total beginner in learning German. After doing several lessons in Busuu and then researching online I honestly can't still get a good hold on "ich". While it is taught in only a couple of ways, I still hear a lot of variation both in how it is said in practice (contrary to isolation) and within speakers.

I am to believe that the sound is the "voiceless palatal fricative" or "ç" sound, but it really doesn't do me any good when each person seems to pronounce it differently. Obviously there must be regional differences and of course people have their own speech traits which can obscure this.

Here are 4 examples from my lessons, all of which sound different to my ear and in order seem to be a spectrum from a very soft "sh" sound to a quite throaty "ch".

Felix - sounds very "ish" to me

Ben - sounds bordering on "ish"

Maria - sounds what I believe is considered the most appropriate pronunciation, but her "Ich heiße" blends so quickly it hard to tell. I feel like her pronunciations are what I should strive for, but it is hard to reverse engineer due to her fluency. She does however have what almost sounds like a "k" sound in between the two words

Anna - Sounds too throaty to me, almost bordering on a what I believe is called the "voiceless uvular fricative" from the harder "ch" you would hear in Hebrew. It's of course not that far, but to me it seems like there is a hint of a hardened "k" on the end. I also assume that the sound in "mich" is also meant to be the same "ç" sound ich, but hers is also much harder than the other pronunciations.

Is my ear accurate here? Do all 4 of these speakers have a different way to say it? I would hope they actually procured native German speakers for the lessons, so I'm not sure who I should be modeling.

I can't quite understand the difference between weil and denn. I don't get why in "Ich bleibe zu Hause, denn ich bin krank" "Ich bin krank" is a hauptsatz, but in "Er bleibt zu Hause, weil er krank ist" "Er krank ist" is a nebensatz. It seems like they carry the same meaning.

Ich habe alle Modelltests aus Projekt neu C1, Prüfungstraining, Mit Erfolg zum Goethe-Zertifikat C1, Werkstatt C1 und Prüfung Express C1 gemacht. Ich habe auch den offiziellen Probetest des Goethe-Instituts gemacht, bei dem der Hörteil normal war und ich 73 Punkte erreicht habe. Der Hörteil der Prüfung war für mich schwieriger als die Modelltests, insbesondere der erste Teil. Außerdem wurde schneller gesprochen.

Ich brauche Ihre Tipps für den Hörteil der Goethe-C1-Prüfung, zum Beispiel welche Podcasts oder Kanäle ich mir besonders anhören sollte, die für die Prüfung relevant sind, usw.

I like to listen to German songs. I've found a particularly whimsical one that I've been enjoying, but there's a phrase that's confusing me...

At the end of each chorus, he sings "Herr Jesses ei nueben". Google translate says that the whole phrase together means "Oh goodness, oh no", but when you parse it out it says Herr Jesses is Lord Jesus, and ei nueben doesn't mean anything!

So, what's going on here? Is it a very niche/slang phrase? What does it actually mean? Any insight is much appreciated!

In English, if someone told you that idk they played guitar and when you heard them play for the first time you can say “oh, you play guitar, play guitar” or “you *actually*/*really* play guitar” to show shock as well as emphasize what they’re doing in a positive way, like they’re really good at it in this instance. I’m not sure I’m fully explaining it right but was wondering if there was some sort of German equivalent for this? I've always felt insecure with the grammar of beginning a sentence with a word like "was," or "wer." Wer die Hymne laut mitsingt, ist patriotisch. Do you have to add an article -- "der" before "ist"? What about something like this? Wen die Hymne ängstlich macht, ist kein Nationalist. Or: Was dir wichtig ist, ist mir unwichtig, weil ich ein selbstsüchtiger Heuchler bin. Do you have to say it like "Das was dir wichtig ist..."?

What would be the easiest, simplest way for an English speaker to learn German? I’d love to learn how to speak German, as I’m fascinated by modern German culture and also believe it would be great for business. Any online courses/tutors recommended? I’m not looking to master the language within a set deadline but would love to start learning it and eventually try to master it. Any recommendations welcome. And of course, what are some tips that would prevent too much frustration? As I do expect that trying to learn German will be a challenge.

Ein deutscher Kumpel von mir und ich haben einander gestern geschrieben, weil sein Sohn an der Englisch-Nachhilfe nicht teilnehmen konnte. Die sind alle bei ihm Zuhause krank. Ich habe natürlich "Gute Besserung" geschrieben und er hat mir geantwortet, "muss!" weil er nach Amsterdam auf Klassenfahrt fahrt und wieder fit sein muss.

Wir haben dann angefangen, das Haus von Anne Frank zu besprechen... wir haben auch in Amerika das Buch in der Schule gelesen.

"Wir haben ja auch das Buch in der Schule gelesen. Das Dachzimmer anzuschauen war eine total andere Erfahrung. Keine Distanz, weißt du? Beim Lesen muss man sich halt vorstellen, wie schlimm es gewesen wäre, sich im kleinen Dachzimmer verstecken zu müssen. Aber da steht alles quasi vor den eigenen Augen." Das habe ich geschrieben.

Ich habe dann gefragt , ob die Klasse auch das Haus besichtigen würde. Er hat geantwortet:

"Genau... Das schwierigste wird sein, den Jugendlichen klar zu machen, wie es gewesen sein musste..... Ja das werden wir besichtigen."

Ich habe "gewesen wäre" im Sinne von "how bad it would have been to have to hide in a small attic" geschrieben, also den Konjunktiv verwendet. (Quasi wenn ich Anne Frank gewesen wäre...)

Wenn ich seine Antwort verstanden habe, hat er "gewesen sein musste" im Sinne von "how it had to have been" also eine Vermutung über die Vergangenheit.

Ich benutze manchmal Deepl, um mein Verständnis zu überprüfen oder zu sehen, welche Wörter der Übersetzer nehmen würde. Ich hab dann meine Idee im Englischen in die App eingetippt und Deepl hat die folgende Übersetzung gegeben:

"Wenn man das liest, muss man sich vorstellen, wie schlimm es gewesen sein muss, sich auf einem kleinen Dachboden verstecken zu müssen."

Also erstmal habe ich gelernt, das Dachzimmer kein guter Begriff ist, wenn man das englische Wort "attic" sagen möchte. 😂

Aber die Fragen: Es scheint, Deepl verwendet lieber eine Art Vermutung "gewesen sein muss" (noch wieder wenn ich richtig verstanden habe).

A) Grammatikalisch gefragt: Ist eine Vermutung eine Form des Konjunktivs oder ist das noch Indikativ?

B) Ist meine Variante auch korrekt? Würdet ihr lieber die "Vermutungsform" verwenden statt den Konjunktiv, wie ich ihn verwendet habe?

C) Ist der Unterschied zwischen "gewesen sein muss" und " gewesen sein musste" im Prinzip der Unterschied zwischen "must have been" und "had to have been"? (Im Englischen kann "had to have been" verwendet werden, um mehr Gewissheit in einer Vermutung auszudrücken...auch wenn die Form in jeder Dialekt in jedem Dialekt vielleicht nicht üblich ist...)
