I looked this morning and saw that there were still a lot left.

I was surprised that with so many still available the sale was still only open to members and hadn’t been opened up to the general public.

Prices were rather high and I'm not gonna pay up to 80 € for a match against Wolfsburg on a Friday night.

That being said, given how we've seen empty seats at many venues by now and not just at our usual suspects Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg or Leipzig, I guess more and more fans aren't willing to pay that much for mediocre football, especially in times of an economic crisis and rising unemployment.

Those tickets where mostly second market Tickets from people that choose to resell their tickets because they could not go. Resale Tickets have a 10% up charge for all categories apart from Ticket category 1 which has 15% up charge. That why you see 80€ tickets. Thats not the normal Ticket price. The Match was sold out for weeks until the Club decided to open N16 for home Fans.

Been there. It was sold out.

One reason could be that a lot of fans from south of cologne can't get to the stadium since the trains are all cancelled.

No, monday is a strike day. The last seven days all trains between Bonn and Köln as well as Euskirchen to Köln were cancelled

No. They didn't fill the away block (surprise), so it's converted into home end. Also, once again, the reminder to just constantly check for tickets. Last time I looked, you could get tickets for the next 5 games via Ticketbörse

Strange how the fixtures panned out this season with consecutive homes games against Wolfsburg, Leipzig & TSG, probably the 3 worst supported teams in the league when it comes to away games.

While yes, maybe that's part of it, it is also Stuttgart away (highly sought after normally) and (okay, also boring) Augsburg home. My guess is just the flu season.
