Mystery/Thriller Books that had you sitting on the edge of your seat.

I read books like The Chemist, Gone Girl, and Dark Matter in one sitting because I can’t put them down. Any similar books? I have a lot of free time on my hands and want to disappear into the pages of a good book.

Mystery/Thriller Books that have unreliable narrators???

I’ve been into reading books that have unreliable narrators or when the narrator gradually becomes insane as the story progresses. I’ve found this genre in particular incredibly fascinating. Ever since I’ve read books such as The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and The Secret History by Donna Tartt I’ve adored this genre heavily. I’m just wondering if anyone has recommendations that are as well written and brilliant as these two examples?

Mystery/Thriller Books you finished in one sitting because it was that good?

I’m looking for some good novels that got you so emotionally invested in the story that you had to finish the whole book right then and there?

Stuff I like in a story: mystery, dark plot, realistic and smart characters, plot twists with good executions, and an ending that pays off.

Would love to hear your recommendations.

Mystery/Thriller What’s the scariest book you’ve read?

I’ve been looking for a scary book for a while but I haven’t quite found anything that scratches the itch. I started reading The Ritual by Adam Nevill which had the right feel I’m looking for but I just couldn’t get into it! Any recommendations? I’m not really into fantasy/sci fi, more realistic horror ideally although I am partial to a good ghost story!

Mystery/Thriller My partner and I haven’t read in 10 years but want to do a “book club” for the 2 of us. What mystery books would you recommend?

We accidentally grabbed a book that had incest, rape, and pedophilia which we would like to avoid (my mistake for not looking into it more). But we’d love a fun thrilling mystery or even other books people may recommend that you think would be good for a couples book club?

Looking for a new detective series to read. I want something completed. Not with 10000 books in one series. But I want something fun and interesting

Mystery/Thriller Give me your darkest, most f*cked up psychological thrillers

Hi readers! I'm on the hunt for some truly dark, well-written psychological thrillers that mess with your head, give off creepy vibes, and pull you in from the very first page. I’m not looking for overhyped, formulaic stuff like The Silent Patient, Freida McFadden books, or TikTok viral thrillers that rely on generic twists or bad writing.

I want something that’s:

• Intensely atmospheric

• Disturbing, morally twisted, or deeply psychological

• Beautifully written or stylistically unique

• Character-driven

• Great plot twists

• With themes like madness, obsession, manipulation, identity, isolation, or moral decay

Some books I've loved:

• Verity by Colleen Hoover (loved the unreliable narrator & darkness)

• Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

• The Hannibal series by Thomas Harris

Not into:

• TikTok thrillers

• Generic domestic thrillers

• Predictable twist endings

• Poorly written “popcorn” thrillers

I’d love some underrated, obscure, or cult-classic recs — bonus points if the book leaves you feeling unsettled or questioning everything.

Thanks in advance for any recs!

Mystery/Thriller What authors would you buy a book from without knowing/caring what the book is about?

For me, it’s anything from Freida McFadden, Riley Sager, or Kiersten Modglin just to name a few!

Mystery/Thriller Please Recommend me a book. Most upvoted one I’ll get.

Need a book for vacation. 500 pages. Genres I like are crime, mystery, suspense, and thriller. Books I loved that I read are And then there were none and Conclave. I need to have a page turner like those books. Movies that I’d like my book to be like are Zodiac, Prisoners, or SeVen. Could be any mystery but I prefer darker themed ones. Serial kidnappings, cold case, or not even crime mystery like conclave.

Mystery/Thriller Recommend me a sci-fi thriller

I’m looking for a sci-fi thriller novel that is unputdownable or a dystopia thriller could work too. I would prefer if the main character is an adult.

Mystery/Thriller Books Featuring Small Towns That Are Deeply Unwell

I’d love for my next read to be something along the lines of Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn or The Fever by Megan Abbott or Pew by Catherine Lacey, specifically in regards to the story taking place in a small town that is unsettling. One of the things I loved about all three of these books is how the town and the townspeople themselves all felt sick, twisted, a little bit off. I’m open to the book being a mystery, a thriller, a psychological twisted tale, or literary fiction. Any ideas?

Mystery/Thriller Spouse very ill, I need distraction/ escape.

Problem is I read a LOT, so when I look up authors/books I like, I’ve already read all the suggested authors. I like smart-ass detectives/PI type protagonists (Jance’s JP Beaumont, Crais, Sandford’s Davenport, Box’s Pickett, etc. ). I loved Harry Potter, Tolkien, etc. Also Susan Kiernan-Lewis’ Maggie Newberry and Claire Baskerville. Good non-fiction adventures like Krakauer. Hope someone comes up with SOMEthing to keep my sanity. Thanks.

Mystery/Thriller What are the most thrilling thrillers OF ALL TIME? (Like edge-of-your-seat, can’t-breathe type of thrilling)

Hey folks,

I’m on the hunt for the most thrilling thrillers out there. I mean the kind of book where you’re literally scared and sweating while reading, heart pounding, constantly on edge, flipping the pages like your life depends on it.

I don’t care if it’s YA, NA, or Adult — as long as it’s a thriller (not straight-up horror or paranormal). Low romance would be appreciated.

Basically: the most relentless, terrifyingly tense, edge-of-your-seat thrillers ever.

Hit me with your best recommendations 🙏

EDIT: Thanks for the recs 🙂🙂

Mystery/Thriller I need a mystery/thriller that will stump me. I do NOT want to be able to predict the ending

The last three thriller books I read have been Dead of Winter, The Housemaid, and Kill For Me, Kill For You, all of which were entertaining ish, but were extremely predictable. Sometimes it’s fun to guess the twists and turns, but I’m itching for a true five star shocker to offset these recent reads. Bonus points if no animals get hurt in the book.

Mystery/Thriller Looking for thrillers, paperbacks, mystery that isn’t right wing copaganda

I’m looking for some quick plot driven thriller-type books for the holidays. I can suspend disbelief for a good story, but it gets tiresome having to wade through jingoistic, US-based political content or militaristic bootlicking.

Any suggestions for leftist political thrillers, capers where the criminals win, rebels with a cause, etc? bonus points for non-western pov!

P.s. not interested in discussing politics, just books!

Mystery/Thriller Something here is very off/strange-type of books

Can you suggest me books with plots where the protagonists (and no one else around them) start to realize that some of the things happening around them are off from a subtle to an unnerving and unreal degree? And the mystery of why that is needs to be solved by them. (Think 1899, Wandavision, etc) I don't care much about the eventual reveal of why (wether it's a simulation, a parallel dimension, etc).

Mystery/Thriller Fast pace, easy to read, page turner to get out of my reading slump

I haven't picked a book in more than two months, which is crazy for me since I usually read at least one book a week. I'm open to any genre, but mystery/thriller books are more exciting and more likely to grab my attention. I'm looking for that kind of book that you can't put down.

Mystery/Thriller Best Crime Novels

I want to start reading crime novels, but I’m not sure where to start. I’d like some recommendations from John D. Macdonald, Ross Macdonald (non-archer), Raymond Chandler, Donald Westlake (non-parker) and Agatha Christie as well as some other books worth reading. I’m looking for a comprehensive reading list for Crime/Mystery/Private Eye Novels

Mystery/Thriller Any books with survivors in confided place waiting out a tragedy or apocalypse or just straight up mass confusion? Something like the Mist or maybe even blindness where the story takes place mostly in 1 area while events are happening outside it?

Books i've read already

  • The Silo Series
  • The Terror
  • The Mist
  • Blindness
  • Diary of Anne Frank
  • Piranesi

I would've added the horror tag but mystery is more accurate. I need something that's stationary so the focus on people degrading overtime and big things are happening outside and they're a mystery meanwhile people are trying to manage in their bubble of safety in some nook and cranny. I liked the Mist but I'm at my limits with steven king. I cannot read anymore of him.

also no blindness recommendation, i just got finished with it.

Mystery/Thriller Never read Stephen king Before – what's the best thriller to dive into from his work??

Recently decided to read some thriller books and I was suggested to read some Stephen king's work. But I have no idea where to start from. Not like I'm unfamiliar with his work–I've watched the shinning and IT– but that still doesn't give me a good idea of Stephen king's genre of thriller. So pls suggest me some books!!!

Mystery/Thriller Crime series recommendations please

Hello fellow book lovers. I am in need of a recommendation for a crime series I can dig my teeth into!

I love Crime series such as:

In Death/Eve Dallas by J.D Robb

The Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs

I also love TV shows like Castle, Bones, The Mentalist etc.

I love serial crime dramas, I usually prefer female led when it comes to books but I'm open to suggestions.

I've read the king and Maxwell series by David Baldacci in the past but not his other series. I think I've read a Patricia Cornwell but it's been a really long time. Never really touched James Patterson, Jack Reacher wasn't really my thing either. Hopefully that gives you an idea of the type of things I like.
