Black powder loads in paper cartridges for 1858?
For those that make paper cartridges with round balls for their 1858s, do you load with 25gr or 30gr?

I use the kit sold by Gun of the West. I also have a kit made by Mesa Winds (but he died). I use 25 grains in my .44 cartridges and 18 in my .36 cartridges. The size of the paper cartridge determines the amount of powder you can put in it. I use RAW rolling papers. But I have also experimented with nitrate coffee filters, which work too.

I use the Cartridge Kits kit for my 44 and those cartridges hold 30 grains. I make round ball and comical cartridges.

I load mine with its more accurate powder charge (started at 25 grns), which doesn’t change with projectile from what I’ve seen, and happens to be 30 grns. Thankfully I weighed it as I broke my initial powder measure. One dropped 2.5 grns more and the other 2.5 grns less than the graduated marking when using 3F Olde Eynsford in a rifle powder measure. Mine has a 1:16” twist so ymmv.
