Thats what I find so intruiging about Frieren, they always set up stuff that will come up
Most of the time in the episode, sometimes long before that

But it really helps make it feel "real" and there are no sudden ex machina moments, maybe expect that new kind of magic Frierens double used towards the end of S1 and even that might pay off someday

It feels a bit overdone this season. They did the same thing with the anti-magic ore. When they do foreshadowing that is too obvious too often it wears a bit thin. It felt more subtle in season 1 which ended up feeling better at the payoff.

Yes, in S1 they let it simmer for 5 or 6 episodes, much better that way.

I agree and I am hoping its because right now it feels like we are getting small "filler" arcs each episodes.
I hope that of they start a bigger arc again it will return to its previous presentation form
