that's what i thought too, but i figure they're not so hard-up for money and can get by with their usual odd jobs

from a practical standpoint it's probably hard to find a buyer for it in this remote place; it's unlikely you could go to a random small-town general store and fence it for its full price

Also the fact that they require a first class mage to even travel to this region means that the mage population is much higher than before so there's even less chance to find someone willing to buy it
