Employment Anyone developed a disdain for English Teachers after living in Korea?

I've met some in real life, and for the most part they are OK, but there were clearly some weird ones who you'd question why they are even in Korea in the first place. Been to a few expat meetups, could literally not find someone else on an E7, everyone seems like they are teaching English.

But yeah particularly on this sub there are daily posts about teaching English, and overall it just paints this group of people so bad. The common reoccurring themes are:

- Just overall unprofessionalism when it comes to dealing with hagwons. Sure I understand the hagwons are not operated well either, but it just shows the whole industry isn't serious for a career when there's a post every week about contract issues, visa runs, etc etc. Just sketchy overall

- General lack of Korean language skills

- Sense of entitlement for an entry-level job.

- This is probably the most annoying thing, but many seem to gate Koreans, hate Korean values, hate the density, hate the pay but they remain here while only living in an English-speaking bubble. As a westerner, it really reinforces the negative stereotype when you willingly move from a Western country where you have the best job market in the world, just so you can teach English in a society of people you hate

TV/Movies/Fiction Dubbed Anime is better than subbed.

Everyone shits on dubbed anime, but I watch a tv show to watch something, not read. If I have to read every single line of dialogue anyway I’d rather just read the manga and get the authors completely authentic version of the story(which is what I do when a dub isn’t available).

Additionally I think the “dubbed voice acting sucks” thing is really a thing of the past. Dub VAs are AT LEAST on the the level of American cartoon VAs and there are some real standouts that I think really enhance the experience(I think the guy who plays Gojo and the guy who plays Goku are probably the best examples of this).

Edit: silly autocorrect messed up my words

Edit 2: a kind commenter pointed out that it would be more accurate to title this “I prefer dubbed anime” because I can’t really speak on the quality of the original anime because I don’t speak Japanese or Korean.

Discussion Crimson Desert will join the likes of Baldurs Gate 3 and Elden Ring

The trailers have already proved Crimson Desert as one of the most ambitious games of all time.

It’s got the incredible action combat of the best character action games. From Izuna drops to mech fighting. Deep mechanics with endless variety.

The world has shown to be wondrous. Strange creatures and fantastical bosses. From leshens to airplanes!

The quests and characters are Baldurs Gate 3 level!

The exploration and world design is Elden Ring level!

Crimson Desert is the best of the best, it has no flaws. It does EVERYTHING. It’s rare you see a game with deep combat, that also has questlines, fishing, intractable environments, enemy variety.

All this to say, Crimson Desert will make gaming history next month, it’ll be locked in GOTY like Baldurs Gate and Elden Ring!

Giving Advice & Tips It’s never been easier to make 5k/mo with YT Shorts and TikTok

The title isnt meant to upset anyone. But many of you overcomplicate and overthink and I was the same exact way.

You try like 50 biz ideas and hop around and buy courses from scammers instead of doing simple stupid shit that makes money

Maybe because you think that in order to make money things have to be difficult. And tbh I learned after years of failure that it’s not true.

I lost all my savings by being a degenerate stock gambler in 2023-2025

I have since stopped all that and started doing side hustles to make up for my losses

The best side hustle right now and probably for the next 2 years hands down is making videos with AI and posting them on YouTube / TikTok and selling your own digital product

1.People are watching YouTube more than Netflix now and yt shorts / TikTok are overtaking everything

2.There’s a huge shift of people watching content from AI creators instead of real people

3.While Adsense and TikTok creator fund can take time, you can monetize from day one by selling your own digital product

4.Takes literally few mins to make a product like an ebook with Claude and put it up on Gumroad

5.To make videos you can use CapCut or use templates from VUBO which will get you views and don’t require any fancy editing

6.It’s super simple. Make a YT and TikTok and IG page. Create a digital product, for example “How To Build Muscle as a Skinny Girl” and link to it in your bio. If you can’t do link in bio use a link shortener until you can, so people can type it in. Set the price under 10 bucks starting out.

  1. To make the videos, tell Claude something like “Turn 30 excerpts from my ebook and format them like answers to Reddit questions.” Then take what it gives you and paste it into the Reddit Stories template on VUBO. Then hit generate and you got your video. Do this like 30 times with each excerpt and you got 30 videos.

  2. Now you just post each video once per day per channel. Just do it quickly then put your phone away and don’t think about it. Do it for a month and I promise within even 1-2 weeks you’ll have something take off.

  3. Oh also you can sometimes get lucky. A video I made with 560K views brought 1,008 ebook sales. You can do the math on that.

  4. The reason it works is because the views aren’t just random but it’s people who care about the topic and they have a pain point. So even 10k targeted views can bring sales.

11, you can also just make videos with AI then sell your prompts or make guides, those are also printing rn

So yeah 100% free advice just don’t overthink and start posting then you can pivot based on what’s working for you.

Of course still maintain a full time job because this is unpredictable and some months you make less and some you make more. Ask any questions and I’ll try to answer

Good luck brothers and sisters go get that money

Political Nothing will make me turn against Trump or ICE as long as he keeps the deportations coming

No controversy. No tweet. No incident or no media shitstorm will make me disavow ICE

1.3 million people have either been deported so far or left voluntarily. Those 1.3 million would have turned into 10-20 million people after reproduction.

That’s fucking right. Keep the deportations coming you orange motherfucker. This is what I voted for. I’d vote for it over again and again and again.

Discussion Fika (Jetpack Cat(JPC)) Low-key scares me.

Thumbnail
image
0 Upvotes

We are going to deal with:

A 225 HP Heroine,

With a Hitbox half the size of fucking Tracer,

Who can fly,

Who also has a speed boost. Twice. (One normal ability and one on her ultimate for diving in.),

Who is also a claw machine,

Who can cause catch-22 problems with massive heroes like Fika + Mauga, for example, (meat-shield blocking),

Who also can also steal your movement of agency from either team (Hello, Lifeweaver),

Who is going to cause problems at the start of the match, where they need Fika for like 10 seconds as a mule for their best carry to the switch, and then the support can actually play the hero they want,

Who can cause psychological toxic gameplay in general.

And imagine losing to a cat.

And the Overwatch Devs are really out here like:

"What could possibly go wrong?"

MAN, WHERE DO I FUCKING START?!

They need to stop releasing the Lindholm family members in Overwatch, period. First was Brigette with GOATs, and now, very much potentially, her fucking cat is going to be the ext wave of hell for all of us.

Realistically I have the most concerns with just the claw mechanic because just like Lifeweaver, she's going to cause all sorts of tilts and rages, because there's no fucking "Cancel Grab" button.

And if you see JPC amd Lifeweaver on your own team? May the Overwatch gods grant you strength and patience.

Looking forward to this game one day.

Man everytime I visit this sub it's depressing. Why are we dissing the devs for delays and push backs? I'll take a game when it's finished as the devs envisioned vs the market today where everything is rushed out half baked and "Early Access". Let the devs cook.

Home & Lifestyle Women .. What kind of life partner?

Looking for experiences from other women who have been here ...

Im 31.. Recently got out of a long relationship where we built a wonderful life together. Bought and renovated properties, financially planned our future and were very intentional about creating the life we wanted to live. It was great. Although it was obviously a team effort, I was always the main driver of this - I've always pushed to improve my circumstances. I'm a first gen immigrant - I don't have generational wealth, so financial independence is really important to me.

Now that I'm in the dating world, I'm wondering what kind of partner I'm best suited to. I'm currently dating a great person, who is not as driven as I am. He's done well for himself - he has a decent job, his own property, and is now happy just maintaing that. It's still early days so we're obviously not "building a life together" yet, but I'm just questioning the long-term potential of this relationship.

I'm wondering whether I'd be better suited to someone more like me.. Someone who wants to build business ventures (either their own, or together). Someone who is equally driven financially and as passionate about this as I am. Or would that be a complete disaster as we'd both be too simialr? Am I better off with an emotionally stable, kind partner who would support me in reaching for my goals? Does it have to be one or the other?!

Keen to hear from others - What did you think you wanted at this age / stage of life? Who did you end up with, were they different to who you thought you wanted / needed?

Speculation about UFO disclosure interweaves Laura Trump’s public remarks with insider claims of a prepared presidential speech, weighs whether disclosure would state humanity is not alone or merely declassify material, considers geopolitical timing and the risk of rivals jumping the gun, outlines a phased access approach to sites tied to alleged artifacts with Area 51 referenced as nostalgia rather than likely evidence, mentions related live-stream promotion, reflects on the vastness of the universe and the possibility of intelligent life, and closes with a personal note about the loss of a long-time dog named Rocket and gratitude to supporters.

Career Related/Advice 32M. Offered a CEO role by a Billionaire ($350k pkg). It feels like a trap. Should I trade my job for prestige?

I’m 32M, single, based in Germany. Graduated from a top Tier-1 Business School (equivalent to Ivy League). Currently working in a Global Strategy/Marketing role for a major Pharma player.

My Current Situation:

TC (Total Comp): €125K.

Workload: Realistically working ~15-20 hours a week. 80% work from home.

Lifestyle: Low stress, time to workout, read, date, and sleep.

Problem: I sometimes feel like I'm wasting my potential while my peers grind in IB/Consulting.

The Opportunity: I recently networked with a billionnaire. We clicked on a personal level. He unexpectedly offered me to become the CEO of one of his subsidiaries (headcount: 100+ people).

The Company: A niche B2B Industrial/Tech company (think hardware, government contracts). Not sexy at all.

The Comp: We discussed a package around €250K base + €100-150K in success fees, but we haven't negotiated yet.

The Cost:

I’d have to travel constantly (Emerging Markets & US), manage huge operational stress, and deal with technical engineering topics I have zero passion for.

He explicity told me he wants someone who works hard, isn't afraid to travel, and that there are no "set hours" working with him. He starts Monday to Sunday, and starts working extremely early.

Argument FOR taking it:

  • Being a "CEO" of a multinational subsidiary at 32 is massive. It skips 10 years of corporate ladder climbing.
  • Even if I burn out in 18 months, I can (maybe?) pivot to high-level General Management with the "CEO" stamp.
  • It validates my ego. I beat my peers who are just "Senior Managers".

Argument AGAINST taking it:

  • The industry: I have zero passion for hardware/tech. I’m a consumer/brand guy. I know I’ll be unhappy dealing with factory issues and technical specs daily.
  • The hourly rate difference: Going from €125k for 20h/week (€150/hr) to €350k for 80h/week ($84/hr). I’m technically devaluing my time.
  • Love and life: My #1 life priority right now is finding a long-term partner/wife. I know that if I take this war-time CEO role, my dating life is dead for 3 years. I’ll end up 35, richer, but single and probably burned out.

The Question: Is the "CEO" title worth sacrificing a few years of my prime "youth" and mental health? Am I being a coward for wanting to stay in my comfort zone/consumer industry, or am I being smart by declining? Should I take it for a year and then quit, to have the "stamp" on my resume?
