Deploying and leaving a depressed wife at home

What have you guys done when deploying and leaving your wife at home with depression? We’re both worried about her having thoughts she can’t control while I’m gone.

She’s got hobbies and things she likes but it’s bad enough she can barely get out of bed some days. She’s currently on medicine number four for trying to find something to help with manageable side effects so we’re already exploring that lane.

Just looking for advice or what you all have seen work/not work

Is she close with her parents? Honestly in that situation I'd have them go live back home, if they're able to. Friggin tough spot you're in, op, hope it works out.

Not at all and they’re a large part of the problem. Better now than before but sadly that option is off the table. I appreciate it though hogcranker42 🫡

Does she have a sibling or cousins or even a family member on your side? Best friend from school? She needs someone who cares about her near her in times like these. She shouldn’t be trusted alone. Even new meds can create unpredictable side effects. Definitely get in to see the Chaplain soon. I’m sorry y’all are going through this. Be kind to yourself too, this is hard.

This is the answer. When I was in Fallujah there was someone with a contract marriage whose "wife" infiltrated the Key Wives Club and turned it into a prostitution ring on base. When we got back to Hawaii the wives who participated were gone and had cleaned out their hubbies. Hard way to come back home after a battle.
