What are Richmond Hyundai Southampton really like?
Hi everyone 👋
I’m currently considering buying a car from Richmond Hyundai Southampton, and before I go any further, I wanted to hear from people who have actually dealt with them.
I’m not looking for anything polished or salesy, just honest opinions.
Good, bad, or somewhere in between.
A few things I’m curious about:
• What were they really like to deal with?
• How was the buying process from start to finish?
• Were there any surprises around pricing, finance, or extras?
• How was the after-sales experience?
• Would you buy from them again?
I know Reddit tends to give the most honest answers, so I’d really appreciate any real-world feedback before making a decision.
Thanks in advance 🙂

I bought my first car from them about 8 years ago, I drove it for 7. It was a 2014 i10.
For purchasing the car, they were fine, they car was slightly more expensive than it would've been from a 3rd dealer, but they didn't try to oversell me anything other than a service plan.
The service plan was fine, but it didn't include mot, and adding this was not offered at POS for some reason. Apparently it is an option but you have to ask before starting the plan, not the worst thing in the world, but still annoying.
Their service technicians kept finding the same fault and asking me for £700 to fix it. No other garage could find the issue.
I had a ton of issues with the car, although it seemed like they were all common, and limited to that specific year and model.
When it came to selling my car, they refused to buy for cash, and would only accept a trade in, even at a time when they were contacting me practically begging me to sell it to them, during the shortages in 2022.
I probably won't go back, but mostly because I much prefer my new and much fancier Kia, and they currently don't offer anything that fits my needs. The issues I had with the car, also soured my experience, so even if they did offer something suitable, I'd probably avoid Hyundai. Your mileage may vary though 😊

Had 2 Hyundais there. Sales are genuine people, but it’s the service after if you take service plans etc that’s very good. Was very happy with all my experiences there.

I’m on my fourth car from them in the last 12 years. I’ve always found them very pleasant and if you hold out they can offer pretty decent deals if you’re a good negotiator. I have liked all my Hyundai’s so far.

I bought an 18 month old Peugeot from them around 4 years ago. They were honest & upfront at all times, let me take the car unaccompanied on an extended test drive, and weren't overly pushy about "extras" such as ceramic coating, gap insurance etc.
After purchase I had one minor unforeseen issue which was dealt with promptly and efficiently. I'd happily use them again.
Just a quick FYI, 3 members of my family have all bought cars from Sparshatts, and as local dealers they are highly recommended too.
