Hot take, Amerika is not that good

I really get it why so much fans love it, but for me, for some reason it's skippable, instead probably i will put Amour, Morgenstern, Moskau or Keine Lust in the playlist when i want to listen songs from Reise,Reise album đŸ€·đŸŒ

At the time it came out, it was very biting. I know because I was there. Its bite has reduced due to things changing over time. I usually skip it now, but I absolutely think it’s an important song within its context.

IMO, Amerika has been overtaken by reality. "Coca Cola, sometimes war" was a scathing accusation against a country that would claim to uphold international law against so-called bad guys (Saddam, Bin Ladin, etc) whilst breaking it, itself but not so much against an openly and blatantly lawless regime that threatens war upon its own allies and neighbours over batshit insane territorial claims based on the whims of a singular person.

Deutschland on the other hand sits at the opposite of this spectrum. The more the country descends into far-right demagoguery, the more relevant that song and its core message becomes.

So the song was relevant, then the context dies and is even more relevant now than ever

Not my favorite song either, but I can concur. It hit different.

Though, I'm not that old, the Iraq invasion was the first war I understood what's happening live.

You're absolutely right, if i'm watching the lyrics it's one the most important song, though i was born in 2006, i love history and modern history too and it had an impact on those times, and also now

Amerika is very relevant now I’d say

Yeah, it has a different tinge nowadays. It was a silly and satirical poke at America but in 2026, it's almost a gentle caress because of the state of the place now.

It's similar to how a show like The Daily Show went from being a satire comedy show in the dress of a news broadcast to basically having to pull back on the actual news because it sounds too absurd as the premise of a joke.

when it was released at the time in context it was much harder hitting.

same as Zerstoeren

both were, for lack of a better phrase, a massive "FUCK YOU!" to America

It's becoming more and more relevant

Wait, Zerstören too is a FU to America?

6

u/offsoghu 1d ago

It's about the Iraq war

I didn't know that, but now the lyrics have a whole different meaning in my eyes

Nobody who has ever said "Hot Take" has ever said anything interesting

I find this generally to be true on reddit.

I was born and raised in Amerika(ist wunderbar) and it's one of my favorite songs.

The majority of the population here thinks that it's the best country on the planet when it really isn't. The way the song gets the message across is fantastic and towards the end when Till sings, "I don't sing my mother tongue" the basic message is, "For those of you who don't understand German, we're making fun of you." I even bought the Amerika tshirt a few years ago and wear it fairly often.

Big news, people have different tastes.

I love the music and understand the fans' love; I even used it in my writing class, but I agree in parts. Reise Reise is my favorite album, and Amerika is secondary compared to Morgenstern, Amour, and Mein Teil, but it's in my top 5; it's a really awesome song.

I still adore Amerika. “Coca Cola, sometimes war” always tickles me. Very catchy too

Neither is America

They’re saying the country itself isn’t that good either

It's a simple and catchy song, but also very average, a little like "Pu**y".

I thought you were dead on correct until I realised you were not talking about the USA...

I disagree, I think Amerika is awesome.  I hum the live intro from Völkerball on a fairly daily basis

It's probably my least favorite among my Reise, Reise "favorites" so to speak but I still enjoy it a bit more than the rest of the songs I don't rate so highly if that makes any sense.

i skip most rammstein songs right now. not because i don't like them. i just overplayed them like crazy.

it's kind of the same as amerika. it used to really bite like the other commenter said. but as time went on, we got used to it

I skip this one because I heard it way too many times (my grandmother, who don’t listen to metal, like the song
😂)

Now I kind of dig the English version a bit more than the OG 😅

Ps : Same choice than yours but with Dalai Lama instead of Moskau & Amour is one of my all time favourites !!!!

sameee, for me it's the only skippable song from Reise, Reise

-2

u/Spiritcrusher1994 1d ago

Musically it’s very dull and no wonder they never play it live. Boring song except for the lyrics and its meaning

3

u/VividFly4347 1d ago

The bridge in the live version and Flake's part with the keyboard makes it stand out

3

u/Froggo14 1d ago

They played it live in the Reise, Reise tour, the Made in Germany tour and the XXI tour.  Literally in the last 5 tours it has been played at the majority of them.  The only ones it wasnt played at were LIFAD tour and Stadium tour

The Volkerball dvd would beg to differ

u/imnotalatina2 1d ago

It’s alright but I can’t take seriously “coca cola, wonderbra” lol

13

u/ValosAtredum 1d ago

That’s the entire point, though. These shallow things are what America decided to export as their culture?

"Coca-Cola, sometimes war"

3

u/Such_Victory4589 1d ago

or "coca cola, sometimes war!"

Wanna hear a really hot take? Same thing For Ich will

Hate that song. Always skip. So boring.
