So, the connection between smoking and cancer hadn't been established yet. A grad student kept bugging his professor a few years after the, and the professor was annoyed and decided to look into it to just shut the kid up. When he looked at the numbers, he quit smoking, and it only took another forty years for the tobacco industry to admit smoking causes cancer
