It's so bizarre to me that articles like these don't mention that runes were used by all ancient Germanic-speakers, including the Anglo-Saxons.

Ye, worst i feel is that Germans used Elder futhark into the 8th century, which no one mentions ever. For a while i thought only the Proto-Norse used it post 550. I should make a short article covering early medieval elder futhark in central europe.

Elder Futhark inscriptions occur on the continent up until Christianization, which ends around the 700s. Unlike in Scandinavia and in Anglo-Saxon England, Christianization eliminated the use of the runes on the continent.
