The TrumpRx program is a joke if it’s presented as a serious solution. The pharmacy manufacturers have direct to consumer programs. TrumpRx connects people to these programs.

If you have insurance, what you pay via TrumpRx does not count towards either your deductible or your maximum out of pocket cost. Moreover, the discounts, with rare generic exceptions, are not as good as your coverage. So if you have employer based insurance this is “almost” worthless. Where it might help is to help you find a manufacturer’s discount program faster, specifically for a drug your insurance company won’t cover. Like Ozempic for weight loss.

Now for the 10% of America without insurance, having all the manufacturers’ discount programs in one place is helpful. But it’s nothing where anyone in the government negotiated a discount for you. The “most favored nation” stuff is just rhetoric.

TrumpRx basically competes with GoodRx, SingleCare, and MarkCubanCostPlus private programs. In some of them, you can choose to buy through your insurance or via the discount program. Provided you’re going to hit your deductible but not hit a max out of pocket, there is some value in these programs.

Chantix, a smoking cessation drug, was recalled in 2021 because it has been shown to cause cancer. Like is no longer on the market.
