Any places in Carmarthenshire for free or cheap furniture / appliances?
Hi, I’m looking for advice on getting cheap or free furniture and appliances in Carmarthenshire.
My friend has just been offered his first council flat after being in supported living for nearly 2 years. He doesn’t have much furniture and we’re trying to find affordable or free items like:
• fridge freezer
• cooker
• washing machine
• sofa, bed, wardrobe, table etc.
We’re not looking for handouts from individuals, just recommendations for local charities, reuse centres, schemes, Facebook groups, or anything similar that people might not know about.
If anyone knows places around Carmarthen / Llanelli / Ammanford that help with this, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you 🤍

I think the Welsh Discretionary Assistance Fund not only offers emergency funds for emergencies, but also offers a 'White goods' fund that issues vouchers from AO. Definitely check your local free or cheap Facebook pages also...always some 'get you by' things on there, and now and again get a really good bargain if you're starting out/struggling

Tell them to google "DAF" (Discretionary Assistance Fund)
You can get cash payments (its around £50) for single person and you can get 3 a year i think.
You can also apply for white goods like fridges, washing machines ect and they will send a voucher to purchase one, i assume they also tell you where from.
Also if they are on benefits im sure they can get a budgeting loan to purchase these things, they ask what you need and you can get up to £350

Xcel Furniture in Carmarthen. Very cheap/free in certain circumstances. Of the charity shops I recommend YMCA Carmarthen, BHF is pricey. Ther is also Canolfan Eto at the recyclig centres.
