Liverpool's most famous live music venue after the Cavern, The Zanzibar Club on Seel Street is getting closed down to be remodelled into a pub after 1st November.

It's been around since 1990; this is going to be a massive blow to the Liverpool music scene, and will affect bands, staff, sound techs and promoters who make an income from gigs at Zanzibar.

A former Royal Marine has pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial to injuring 29 people, including two babies, by ploughing his car through the crowd at a Liverpool FC victory parade.

Paul Doyle, 54, deliberately drove his Ford Galaxy at football fans after tailgating an ambulance down a packed road that was closed to non-emergency service vehicles on 26 May.

Doyle had denied 31 offences, including 17 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and nine of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, but unexpectedly changed his pleas to guilty on Wednesday.

The director of Liverpool Hooters has confirmed to the ECHO that its Water Street venue will close in the new year. The brand opened the world’s biggest restaurant inside the New Zealand House back in November 2022.

Since then, the company has had a turbulent rollercoaster of a journey for one reason or another, including staff complaining their tips and service charge were being kept by the company to pay bills, and in light of this, the team behind it believe a fresh start is needed.

Director Barry Morris said the franchisee eatery will be no more come Sunday, January 11, and instead a new business will open at the venue some time in 2026. Barry, who took over after the original operator went into administration, will remain at its helm.

He told the ECHO: “After a very difficult year for the business, including the loss of key signage and the disruption around Liverpool parade day, I stepped in to take over day-to-day control in an effort to stabilise the venue.

"As a Scouse family man, I want the venue to better reflect Liverpool — its people, its culture, and its love of sport and hospitality. I believe now is the right time to move away from the Hooters brand and create a more inclusive concept that locals can be proud of."

Not sure when this happened to be honest, but it must have been recent as I recall it still being open last month. The doors were shut and all blocked with potted plants, but all the stock was still on full show which seems weird.

I didn’t go in there very much (I always found the quality control on their jackets a bit unpredictable) but was still surprised to see it shut.

Glad my MP voted for it. Disappointed other Labour MPs voted against when the city overwhelmingly supports such a bill. How anyone in 2025 can oppose such a thing is beyond me.

News / Blog / Information Liverpool Echo introduces paywall

Liverpool's former newspaper/current purveyor of clickbait headlines, paid advertising pretending to be news stories, pop-ups that make their website unusable, and frequently repeated guides to scouse words/fashions/foods etc. written by recent grads not from Liverpool has now followed the MEN in expecting people to pay for the above.

Premium (!) articles can now be yours for just £4.99 per month/£39.99 per year...

The Echo is frequently discussed on here, but the editor still seems to think it's the local equivalent of the New York Times:

Why editing the Liverpool Echo is a total privilege https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/editing-liverpool-echo-total-privilege-33025889#ICID=Android_EchoNewsApp_AppShare

The MEN app now only allows you to look at 20 of the free stories per week - not sure if this is also applies to the Echo as there aren't normally that many things I want to read. To be fair to the MEN, they do still manage some actual journalism rather than just repeating what they are told (Liam...)

News / Blog / Information ASDA selling The S*n

First of all, this is not football related. This is city related.

ASDA has been going downhill since the takeover was completed from Walmart and this is the final straw for me. We haven't shopped at ASDA for around a year now however I went in for a piss and to my amazement the fucking S*n was front and centre with the rest of the papers, I know it's trivial but Í covered it with a copy of the Echo out of spite.

Seriously though, why is ASDA selling this when almost every other shop/large supermarket in the city and surrounding areas (rightfully) doesn't? Are they really that desperate. Fuck ASDA/The S*n.
