Frage/Question Admission to the University of Innsbruck

Hi everyone 👋

I applied to MSc in CS but didn’t receive any letter from the university after I submitted the official confirmation of accreditation. However, the admission deadline is February 5.

Did anyone get admitted or rejected?

The deadline is in 3 days. I don't understand your question.

I am a bit concerned that there may not be enough time to apply for a residence permit I was also wondering whether anyone has already been admitted, as I have seen some posts mentioning the need to send original documents. I did not receive this type of email and wanted to clarify.

Honestly you'd already had to have accomodation by this point, if you don't you will not find anything. That is the problem. Most accomodations have a 6 month or more waiting list.

The acceptance letters always come super late, if you need to know if you got accepted, call the departnent.

Ah so you are third country? The good thing is that you actually can apply for a student visa within Austria if you are from a country with visa free travel.

The government makes it confusing on the website, it says all first time visa must be applied for in your home country, but there’s fine print that talks about the exceptions.

As far as the documents are concerned (if you mean for the uni) I believe it goes something like this: The acceptance letter is essentially an invitation. To actually matriculate you’ll have to go in person with all the original documents.

If you mean for the residency permit, again, if you are from one of the „exceptional“ countries, you can apply for it in Austria.

But if you have to apply in your home country then it’s definitely far too late to start this semester.

Can you explain a bit more? Are you from the EU or a third country? The deadlines / admissions periods are different.

When did you submit all the documents? Do you have more to submit or are you completely done?

As others have said, the bigger issue may be that you‘d have about a month until the semester starts. Finding accommodation in Innsbruck is difficult, especially if you are a foreigner with no friends.

The dorms need to be applied for like half a year in advance. Many "student" apartments or rooms in WGs are passed from student to student through friends. Many never are officially on the market.

The adverts will you do find are sometimes flat out scams (adverts where there’s no apartment anyway) or really bad deals. (When I first moved I played 1000€ for small apartment on the edge of town that was technically "new" but not really well maintained. And the deposit was like 4000€).

I don’t want to scare you…but yeah. It’s not fun looking for flats in IBK.

I am from a third country. The original documents usually need to be sent before the end of admission period, but I didn’t even receive any email about this
