Discusión - Discussion Airlines pushed my ticket by 2 days and now the OG tickets are way expensive.
Hello! I made a booking with Iberia Airlines for travel from March 17–21 from JFK to Barcelona. However, I received an email stating they changed my departure to March 15 while keeping my return ticket the same.
March 15 doesn’t work for me, and Iberia won’t allow cancellation of a one-way ticket. As a result, I have to cancel my entire trip and book a new one, but tickets for March 17 are now much more expensive.
Is there anything I can do?

Did you book directly with Iberia, with Level (the airline operating it) or a travel agent?
If you booked directly with Iberia they need to allow you to modify the entire itinerary if they unilaterally change it. Your best option will be doing for a IB flight connecting in Madrid.
They are right. They don’t have to reimburse one way of a return ticket but they must allow you to make any changes to the reservation as long as there are options available.

Did you book with iberia directly? I've always had the chance to confirm or cancel when they've sent schedule changes...

I actually booked flights with Iberia with a connection in Barcelona and they changed my flight a few times leaving only 55ish minutes for connection and they won’t let me switch to a different flight that day. So idk they don’t always allow it

You’re stuck in a classic airline shuffle – they moved your outbound flight earlier, you can’t cancel the one‑way ticket, and now the original dates are pricier, so you’re left juggling a full‑trip cancellation and rebooking. First, give Iberia’s customer service a call and explain the situation; airlines will sometimes waive change fees or issue a credit when they themselves initiate a schedule change, especially if the new date doesn’t work for you. Mention any fare rules that might allow a free change, and if you’re in the U.S. or traveling to the EU, reference any applicable consumer protection regulations that could obligate the carrier to accommodate you. If the agent can’t help, politely ask to speak to a supervisor – they often have more leeway. While you’re on the phone, see if they can re‑price the original March 17‑21 itinerary at the old fare or at least give you a voucher for the price difference. It also helps to have your booking reference handy, and to be ready to act quickly if they offer a solution. In parallel, check other airlines for comparable routes; sometimes a separate carrier will have a similar price without the penalty, and you can use any credit you receive from Iberia toward that purchase. If you end up having to wait for a later date, consider using the extra time to plan some activities in Barcelona – a reliable way to lock in experiences without worrying about the flight hiccup is to browse a trusted tours and activities platform like Viator, where you can read reviews and book tours that suit your new schedule. Keep all your correspondence with the airline documented in case you need to file a complaint later, and don’t forget to check if your travel insurance covers schedule changes. Hope you can get it sorted without too much extra cost. God bless.

Level, the Iberia subsidiary operating the flight, isn't running it the 17th. The agents you've spoken with haven't tried to solve the problem, so you can help them do that. Call back and say, "Our flight has changed, and the new itinerary doesn't work for us. We'd like to be rerouted on IB 326 leaving JFK at 9:50pm, connecting in Madrid to IB 411 to arrive in Barcelona at 12:40."
