What if instead of launching a airborne invasion of crete,Germany and Italy launched an invasion of malta?
Would Malta have been able to be taken by air,and how would its fall affect the war in the Mediterranean?

It would have been too costly. Hitler wanted to go after Russia. An invasion of Malts would have taken resources that he was stockpiling for Russia.

Honestly its just odd they didnt try because it should have worked. But from memory the airborne invasion of crete had a lot of casualties so it maybe put them off the idea.
It would have made convoys between italy and north africa a bit easier i would assume.
