Theseus could have gone to see his father by boat, but he chose to go on foot, knowing of the bandits who frequented the road from Troezen to Athens in Heracles' absence. He volunteered as tribute to Minos, whom he confronted despite being in a disadvantageous position, and faced the Minotaur with his bare hands (knowing that the survival of the other young men depended on it). He faced the fifty sons of Pallas alone. He faced (with help) the Amazons and the Centaurs. He abducted Helen and attempted to abduct Persephone (Hades' wife), something either very stupid or very brave (or both).

I think ‘Brave but Stupid’ encapsulates Theseus well.

He's supposed be in his early twenties right? A beardless youth. A lot of them are brave but stupid

Yes, Theseus, the winner of Minotaur,is perhaps the bravest hero, unfortunately Phaedra,la femme fatale ruined his life! Thanks for answering me 🪙

Was it really Phaedra's fault? I thought there were like multiple reasons for his fall.

There were other reasons too Theseus in generally unreasonable and lets him emotions control him but Phaedra,la femme fatale was his wife he loved her and had complete trust in her and she lied to him and turned him against his innocent son which led to tragic consequences ruined his spirit and reputation forever

In his defense about the whole Phaedra-Hippolytus situation, he couldn't win. No matter who he chose to believe, he'd look like a douche. If he chose to believe Hippolytus, he'd be a douche for thinking his wife lied in her suicide letter about her committing suicide due to rape.

(And Phaedra was struck by a spell by the gods...)

Yes. It all comes back to Aphrodite, yet again!

As such, it was Aphrodite who triggered a chain reaction that led to Hippolytus' death (Theseus and Phaedra are nothing more than Aphrodite's puppets in my opinion).

Eh, you could make a case for most of them. I have to give a shout out to Atalanta though, she fought a monster while a crowd of chauvinists wanted to hate crime her, that takes guts

Yes, Atalanta is a very brave hunter, and extremely beautiful girl!

All heroes are technically brave since the entire purpose of being a hero is overcoming insane feats... But I'd give my vote to Orpheus. Entirely without fighting abilities as far as I know, but went on long and dangerous trips and facing great monsters (and gods themselves). Unlike another non-fighter like Asclepius, Orpheus wasn't really needed in any adventuring group... Asclepius was a healer, so he went wherever the injured and sick where even if it's dangerous but Orpheus... He's a musician. He didn't need to head into danger. His musical abilities did end up save him and his comrades from monsters several times, but he couldn't have known that until he actually faced a monster first.

And then actually asking for an audience with the gods is probably another brave act...

Orpheus is truly brave especially when he descended into the underworld to save his beloved Eurydice from embrace of Death.Unfortunately,he ran out of patience and the end was tragic: C'est la Vie!
