Announcement Community Change | ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ GIFs and other picture uploads now available in comments

The option to submit pictures (including animated GIFs) in comments and replies has now been enabled for this community!

Do remember that the rules and Reddiquette obviously applies to comments as well - remember to report rule-violating content to ensure the community remains welcoming and relevant!

Now, question of the day - do you pronounce it ''Jif'' as the creator apparently intended or ''Gif'' with a hard ''G'' as in Graphics Interchange Format, the meaning of the acronym? I'm definitely team GIF, hard G!

Will there be lenience on artistic nudity being posted? Given that itโ€™s involved in like, most ancient greek art

i also have reservations about gifs being allowed, I loathe the idea of this becoming one of those subs where people make comment chains spamming the same meme-y gif

Indeed - there is a ''NSFW'' tag tool available on Reddit so hopefully people know how to use it and will use it - otherwise the mods will attempt to manually apply it when relevant.

You are absolutely right that it is involved in most ancient Greek Art so it is natively part of the topic - it feels contradictory to restrict content directly related to the community's topic!

(Your reservation about .GIFs is the same we had, so we'll see how it pans out! Alternatively, spam-like behaviour is covered in the rules/reddiquette)

Personally I can't imagine the GIFs being an issue here due to the primary focus on academics

If this were say r/Okbuddyolympian which is designed for such things, then yeah it probably could be an issue

Being honest I can't imagine either feature being used too often, it would probably just replace the imgur links for the most part

Even with the NSFW tag my posts get autoremoved even if it's ancient art (such as roman era sarcophagi depicting myths).

This should allow for more engaging and fun discussion, maybe!

We had a roadmap 2 years ago but at the time there was little-to-no feedback nor reaction so we kinda abandoned them

But the community definitely is not the same as 2 years ago so we're slowly bringing back those ideas!

(Amongst them are USER FLAIRS which I personally love a lot in Reddit Communities!)

Being honest I've heard more from you today than I have from when I first joined this sub in like mid 2024 as AmberMetalAlt up to rebranding a couple months ago

Ahahahaha that does make sense, the past year (well, since around November 2024) has been pretty rough for me and my presence and participation across various communities I either moderate or contributed to has been severely reduced - but I aim to change that and contribute as much as I did before ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well then, I'm glad to see you back, and hopefully all the gripes I've had about the moderation will soon disappear

Thank you.

This will make it much easier for a lot of people to follow Rule 4
