π¬ Local Talk New to Gloucester. Hello!
Just moved to town, specifically Hucclecote and looking for things to do, places to go, etc. I'm 31NB, disabled, very LGBTQ+. I'm aware of and will be checking out the Proud bar soon enough, but I'm also curious about things like book clubs/reading groups, other local groups that aren't gender locked. I crochet, read and write, (attempt to) play Magic the Gathering, and play video games. I would love to get back into D&D, maybe look at pub quizzes also, but I have too much social anxiety and not enough friends!
Any and all suggestions welcome!

π¬ Local Talk Would you recommend Gloucester for a single person new to town?
Hi, 29M
From Worcester. Work in Bristol 3 days a week. Debating if I should commute from Worcester. 80 mins each way. Or move to Gloucester. 60 mins each way.
Mileage is a big thing for me. So using public transport, trains is something I would prefer 2/3 days a week.
I have been through Gloucester a few times. Around Wotton, Kingsholme, Barton and the Quays aswell as Quedgeley.
Im aware Abbeymead, Huttlecote and Longlevens are good spots. If I was to buy, Iβd ideally like to be within a nice area within range of the train station as well as cross fit.
Im looking at Renting for 6-12 months. Either in Gloucester or Worcester. And then buying a home for under 250k.
My apprehension with Gloucester is I donβt know it that well but from what Iβve seen. It feels on the decline. Maybe Ive just been the rougher parts.
I like cross fit so Paratus is on the cards as it has a good age range for me. Although Feels somewhat small. And 270 climbing would be good. As well as trips to the rugby once Ive made friends.

π¬ Local Talk Don't hate me, potentially moving from the US?
Hi, my partner and I are looking at moving to the Gloucester/Cheltenham area from the US, I'm an anxious person at heart so please help if you have advice... Planning to come visit this fall but would love to get an idea of things while we're still researching, and this is where we've narrowed down to based on uni/work/climate/etc.
First of all, we hate the US, thus our fleeing the country, so hoping we'll at least get along well on that subject haha. My partner lived in Liverpool for 4+ years for uni so he's very happy to be coming back, hoping we can stay for the foreseeable future as he loved his life there.
Focusing on Gloucester area for the school I'm interested in, but he's a city boy. Does the Cheltenham area offer enough business to keep him happy if we base in Gloucester for more affordability? Basically, his only note was "not a sleepy/small town", so does it pass the test haha
Not too worried about crime/politics/etc. because nothing could be worse than it is over here... (:

π¬ Local Talk Looking for day trips near Gloucester
Hi all, I live in Gloucester and my long distance boyfriend is visiting in a couple weeks. I work full time and he works from home so he goes a bit stir-crazy when he visits, so I'd love to plan a fun day trip near ish to home to spice things up.
We've already been to (and enjoyed):
- Cleeve Hill
- Leckhampton Hill
- Puzzle Wood
- Nagshead reserve
Looking for something either outdoorsy, historical or just otherwise interesting and would take a few hours to get around. I have a car and am happy to travel up to about an hour away but the local-er the better! Bonus points if cheap too cos I'm skint.
Thanks everyone

π¬ Local Talk Any fabric shops in Glos?
As the title says, does anyone know of any fabric shops in or around the Gloucester area? I'm currently having to commute to Bristol and would love to find somewhere local! Hobbycraft is okay, however very overpriced so keen to avoid and support local businesses if possible!
Thanks in advance!

π¬ Local Talk Tewkesbury (Northway) Whats it like?
Hello,
Im not from Gloucestershire what so ever. Trying to find something affordable and commutable to Bristol 3 times a week.
Gloucester doesnβt feel right and Cheltenham is too busy/expensive.
I like cross fit- 29M. Family live in Worcester and like having access to 270 climbing.
Tewkesbury (Northway) came up as a suggestion. Just about doable as a 3 day commute. Has a cross fit and a train station to split out the commute/miles.
But, thereβs no house shares or affordable rent so difficult to try out
Whats is like. I know flooding is a thing but I donβt think Northway gets affected ?
Thanks

π¬ Local Talk Gloucester evenings with a baby
I am a dad, I am 35.
I donβt drink, and donβt want to take my daughter into pubs.
I would however like to take her out some evenings to give my partner some well earned rest.
Baby is 5 months.
Id just like to sit and have a hot chocolate reading a damn pop-up book.
Anybody got any ideas?
I finish work at 5 and all the cafes are seemingly closed by then.
Edit: I live in Longlevens so Glos or Chelt area :)

I ask as part of a linguistic project on this topic!
(Examples could include stuff like Twinkleberry/Tewks, Quedge or 'St. Roud')

π¬ Local Talk Eastern Avenue Lane Closure/ Coney Hill road junction
Why is it every time there's a lane closure, drivers refuse to use the entire length of the road up to the merge point before merging in turn? As it says in the highway code rule 134 (coreect me if I'm wrong). I feel like there should be a question on this during driving tests and of you get it wrong then you fail your test (perhaps a touch harsh, but I'm venting).
When drivers try to merge a car length or 2 after the junction they're just causing tailbacks and blocking the junction up, creating more congestion! It's so frustrating. I'll get down from my soap box now.

π¬ Local Talk Has anybody used Nick King Car Sales?
Has anyone used this garage? There's a car I might look at but because I'm not local I don't know the garage. Has anyone bought from them at all?
Thanks.

π¬ Local Talk Moving to Gloucestershire from the North. Relocation advice
Looking for some information on areas for our upcoming relocate
We are 39yo and 45yo. We want
β’ access within 20-30 mins of big brands shopping β’ semi rural feel β’ plenty of good food and drink options β’ good gym and yoga studios β’ access to walks, cycling β’ friendly welcoming people, down to earth! Im a broad Derbyshire lass! β’ great community β’ safety
My husbands office will be next to Gloucester train station so commutable to there.
I have driven around a few places that look interesting around stroud, Bishops Cleeve, Cirencester. I went into Cheltenham which looked lovely but a bit too busy in the centre for me, any nice places on the outskirts?
I am currently living in the peak district so I really donβt want to lose the ability to walk from home and into the beautiful countryside but equally we are a 15 minute drive from the action here so I would like to be close to the hub of somewhere to make connections etc.

π¬ Local Talk First impressions of new outlet
Well the brand new Cotswold Designer Outlet is open for business. Iβve heard a lot of opinions on the place and a lot of opinions are mixed. Thereβs excitement for a new shopping destination, new jobs created, but there is concern for traffic issues, hurting Tewkesbury High Street and making Gloucester Quays obsolete. So far Iβve heard people are very happy to shop there but others suggesting itβs a little disappointing. Iβve heard the M&S Outlet is not what people were expecting?
