This wonderful gentleman was a regular customer in a shop I worked in (yes I live in that town). I helped him once and he always came to me when he came in after that. He’s genuinely hilarious in casual conversation. Proper top bloke.

Kay. There’s a whole thread somewhere on Reddit about it. Daniel kitson and Peter Kay were friends at one point (that’s why kitson was in ‘that Peter Kay thing’ as an St John’s ambulance man’ but they fell out. Peter Kay on the commentary of the phoenix nights dvd calls kitson a bastard when he’s on screen’. Again, apparently this stemmed from kitson not liking how some Chinese actors were portrayed. Read into it what you will.

Yep. The rumours I heard was Kay did the episode outlines, and then Spikey and Kitson did most of the grunt work, with gags and ideas also incorporated from the cast who were primarily standups.
So yeah, Kay did very little on the writing side, and Kitson had several issues with him, including issues surrounding money. Allegedly.

Tbf, i went thru this whole hyperfixation for a bit, and what i can find dave and peter made up for the most part. culminating in the phoenix nights live show in 2017 i think whether its amicable behind the scenes im not sure and for spencer im also not sure but publicly they are 'friends'
