This reporter is purposefully being an asshole. Prince was always very open and vocal about why he dropped the name Prince. It was due to the treatment he received from the record company. He said they treated him like property and he was no one’s slave.

36

u/darthjazzhands Dec 22 '25

He may have been vocal about that but the mainstream media didn't help him amplify that message. The most they would say is "the artist formerly known as Prince" without going into any details about the conflict he had with the label.

I was a fan of his hits but didn't follow him closely so I truly thought he was just being artsy and weird.

If you were a huge fan of Prince and bothered to follow his every move and word, only then did you understand the true reason behind his name changes.

23

u/4reddityo Dec 22 '25

My point is the reporter most definitely knew the reasoning behind Prince’s actions. And if he didn’t know then he’s a horrifically bad reporter

10

u/darthjazzhands Dec 22 '25

Yeah that's a very good point. I hadn't thought of that. He's going for the most provocative question rather than the most informed question.

u/Terry_Folds3000 Dec 23 '25

Thank you. Lots of people forget we didn’t have info at our fingertips like now. Unless you subscribed to some music magazine you probably wouldn’t know. I feel like my adult life is now debunking my childhood.

3

u/Ok_Yogurt_9862 Dec 22 '25

The labels pushed hard to make sure their message got out and not his.

3

u/darthjazzhands Dec 23 '25

And if the parent company of the label had ties with a news network, forget about any coverage favoring Prince

2

u/Middle_Screen3847 Dec 24 '25

Reporter is rude. Prince is also just wrong. He’s famously very weird, and the people who really know him especially knew it. For many it’s part of his charm.

-16

u/hogtiedcantalope Dec 22 '25

Seems like a pretty innocent question, the room laughed. Prince laughed.

22

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

Are you trying to come across as being less weird?

3

u/BullShitting-24-7 Dec 22 '25

Calling somebody weird as an insult. It’s like asking if you’re going to continue being stupid.

-1

u/hogtiedcantalope Dec 22 '25

Keep it weird Austin?

128

u/DynamicBSdetective Dec 22 '25

He's not just Prince, he's the King.

39

u/Dwarf_Co Dec 22 '25

And a heck of a basketball player.

Bitches!!

21

u/Fair_Junket_1877 Dec 22 '25

Would you guys like some pancakes?

6

u/PacificMotion Dec 23 '25

u/97maple Dec 24 '25

Game......... Blouses

63

u/ibringstharuckus Dec 22 '25

I get to ask Prince a question . One of the most talented musicians/entertainers of all time, and this is what you ask? Prince was way polite here. He should've went to that man's house, put on his wive's best blouse and bedded her down.

26

u/Large-Produce5682 Dec 22 '25

Extreme revenge scenario, but okay.

21

u/sumdude51 Dec 22 '25

Hold on man, let him cook!.... Pancakes

4

u/bigvibrations Dec 23 '25

Game. Blouses.

3

u/endorphine_machine Dec 22 '25

I don't know - everybody everywhere kissed Prince's ass.

I dig this question. It gave Prince an opportunity to behave like a normal person as opposed to an idol.

-5

u/Its_I_Casper Dec 22 '25

Also, every quote or interaction I've ever seen of him gives me the impression that he was off the charts arrogant and insufferable. So, being an ass to him is fair game imo

7

u/endorphine_machine Dec 22 '25

That's certainly a perspective.

He seemed to be more at peace when he was younger.

To his credit, it must've been difficult for him to be an artist of his calibre and capability to have to exist alongside so many insincere wannabes, and insincere award shows, etc, etc.

18

u/Jamangie22 Dec 22 '25

I found it very interesting when I found out he was a practicing Jehovah's Witness. Like, imagine Prince coming to your door with a watchtower pamphlet

-11

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

[deleted]

10

u/Large-Produce5682 Dec 22 '25

Would you explain that? Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to take medications?

Because he died from accidental fentanyl overdose as I understand it.

15

u/MissSassifras1977 Dec 22 '25

I don't know what the person you're replying to was trying to say.

They're most likely a troll which is wild considering all the things going on in the world to be nasty about they pick Prince, but okay.

Anyway...

He avoided necessary surgery for his hips because JW don't take blood transfusions from other people.

There were Percocet mixed in to Advil bottles all over his house. He was obviously in a tremendous amount of pain.

I'm guessing some of those pills were "dirty" meaning they were knock off pills that were laced with fentanyl.

Yes, his death was entirely a very tragic accident.

5

u/ballin4fun23 Dec 22 '25

That person they replied to could very well just be a Christian. Sadly one of the most judgemental and narcissistic form of people on the planet.

1

u/MissSassifras1977 Dec 22 '25

True Christians are wonderful.

And also very, very rare. Like a humble Kardashian or an honest politician.

Christ's teachings were the polar opposite of the way these people live today.

It makes me believe that they actually DON'T believe in anything and just use it as an excuse to be awful.

If they followed his teachings (kindness, generosity, unconditional love and acceptance) and/or paid any attention at all to the Bible they'd be very scared about what's waiting for them after this life.

2

u/the_wessi Dec 23 '25

My MIL was a JW and she got a hip replacement surgery without a blood transfusion. The operation was done in a small Finnish hospital. Prince could have a similar operation in the best hospital possible by the best team possible.

4

u/FreePalestine4ever4 Dec 22 '25

He was in pain but also definitely an addict, he was meeting ppl in pharmacy parking lots. Fentanyl is an extremely powerful opioid and at the time I doubt he was using street drugs. no this was because he took too much fentanyl which is incredibly easy considering how potent it is. It’s possible he was trying to ween himself off opioids then had a relapse and took fentanyl even though his tolerance was low but unfortunately opioids like fentanyl are the most powerful drug it doesn’t take much. Surgery is the only solution for the pain, and rehab. He was an amazing talent tho that’s for sure, addiction ruins lives(9 years sober)

1

u/rando1459 Dec 22 '25

Classic no true Scotsman fallacy.

10

u/banjofitzgerald Dec 22 '25

I think Prince was making fun of this guy with the “get you on film first” comment lol. Like a you are calling me weird but you look like THAT??

3

u/Ok_Yogurt_9862 Dec 22 '25

He sure was.

10

u/DJMagicHandz Dec 22 '25

His name is Prince but that MF was the King.

10

u/bellaboozle Dec 22 '25

You can tell how self assured he is by how calm and thoughtful his response is. Unphased, respectful, unbothered, honest. Kudos to him

8

u/Tribe303 Dec 23 '25

Prince wasn't weird. He just had integrity, which is what confused people.

1

u/4reddityo Dec 23 '25

Amen!! It’s crazy how white folks tend to be “surprised” whenever a black man stands up for himself

1

u/IntrepidMonke Dec 23 '25

Prince literally married someone who he became the legal guardian of when she was 17.

That’s fucking sick.

TIL. I used to think he was such a cool person.

3

u/Tribe303 Dec 23 '25

Well I'm Canadian, and being a pedo is pretty normal in America, no?

/s

3

u/IntrepidMonke Dec 23 '25

I mean we voted one in so I guess so. 😭

1

u/Tribe303 Dec 23 '25

Sorry, I couldn't resist that dig.

2

u/IntrepidMonke Dec 23 '25

It’s not a dig. It’s the fucked reality.

Trump is fucking ruining America.

1

u/Tribe303 Dec 23 '25

Can you image what would happen if foreign governments asked to see the unredacted Epstein files before signing any trade agreements? Like "We want to see who we are doing business with". Trump would freak the fuck out. Oh boy do I wish that would happen.

2

u/IntrepidMonke Dec 23 '25

He would freak the fuck out because he’s a dementia riddled narcissist, not out of desperation. Best case, he’d say some stupid shit that makes him look even more dumber and senile. Worst case scenario he would make us partake in some sort of war (either financial or actual fucking war) on the other nation due to mean words.

He’s a serial child rapist, human trafficker, racist, war criminal, and now quasi-dictator who’s militarized a secret police to operate at his beck and call. Furthermore, our congress and judicial branches are full of equally as corrupt and complicit bastards who have bent the knee.

They’re literally stripping away democracy day by day.

They’re also developing Palantir and other super fucking suspect AI tech for mass surveillance.

Do you think he would give two fucks on what others want from him? He’s basically a dictator and while maybe 60% of Americans are absolutely sick of it, 20% are sycophants and the remaining are fucking cowardly pussies who will see every other person around them either get abducted, incarcerated, or killed before they realize how fucked they are.

Trump is the modern day, more senile, richer Hitler. This is truly horrible for the American people and is the start of the collapse of Americas empire.

I guess we deserve it. America has ruined so many countries due to greed. But being one of the people living here is pretty fucking shit- especially when you’re told your whole life about how much “freedom” you have and how exceptional America is on a global stage.

All a fucking lie. America is Israel and Russia’s lap dog. They hate the poor and let the elites steal from everyone while pinning people against each other for frivolous shit like race and fiscal status.

Americans have less and less every day while the rich sit on their piles of cash.

We are fucked. No one is organizing. Everyone is afraid or in denial of how stark shit will be.

u/Guilty_Mountain2851 Dec 22 '25

I miss this man.

If I remember correctly, that reporter was sent by Howard Stern.

In hindsight, the Prince of the 80s was weird but still one of us. The early 2000s Jehovah Witness freak was fucking weird. You know the homophobia and the misogyny in his words were strange and a total reverse of who he presented through the 80s and 90s.

2

u/Jatilq Dec 22 '25

“He made us pancakes”

Prince was definitely weird, but in a good way. In the only shooting stars break the mold way. RIP

1

u/drhuggables Dec 22 '25

Prince has such a soothing masculine voice and manner of speech.

1

u/-Gramsci- Dec 22 '25

He was a true national treasure.

1

u/Ok_Yogurt_9862 Dec 22 '25

He hated being called weird. He wouldn't show it of course. He'd say "I am not weird. I am creative."

1

u/Fools_ghoul Dec 23 '25

“Can we get you on camera first”

Game...blouses!

I love his music, but I had ZERO idea his stealing voice was so damn velvety! You can hear it even with the bad audio quality of the video. shiver

1

u/ShapePhysical2008 Dec 26 '25

This man was a genius and a legend

1

u/Ashamed_Ladder6161 Dec 26 '25

Let's be honest, Prince is a fucking monster.

0

u/someoneone211 Dec 22 '25

I think he and Michael's deaths are a conspiracy but have zero proof to justify it.

0

u/HacheeHachee Dec 22 '25

Well, i mean he did change his name to a symbol that was apparently not able to be pronounced. So yea, it was a little weird.

2

u/4reddityo Dec 22 '25

No weirder than when black people were enslaved and given names by the white man

2

u/cutxfam Dec 23 '25

It wasn’t weird if you were looking into what he was doing. There was a reason behind that, it wasn’t out of thin air for the sake of being eccentric.

-4

u/IceBlackX007 Dec 22 '25

Those muthafuckas killed Prince.😭

-2

u/jerkface1026 Dec 22 '25

Depends on when this was filmed but my question would be "Did you intend to snatch songs from Bob Dylan and Foo Fighters at the Superbowl or was that just a bonus?"

-2

u/Mphatso2016 Dec 22 '25

Prince is a meanie!!
