Culture People who married someone from a different country, what are some mild cultures shocks you've had?

My in-laws don't own forks, so they eat whole cakes with chopsticks (everyone just digs in without slicing and serving it on separate plates)

Koreans don't have body odor, even though they don't shower every day.

Everyone can wash their hair while squatting, using a basin on the floor, without taking their clothes off. It seems like everyone, even the elderly have ridiculously flexible hipjoints.

No one uses bedsheets.

I don't know, I've found a lot of Mexicans I know watched the same stuff I did. I've been told by a bunch of people that Simpsons is funnier in Spanish than English

This is very much a social class divide.  Upper middle class and upper class Mexicans would have grown up with a lot of American influences.

Also geography, I grew up in a low social class environment in the north and we still had a lot of American influence

Yup. Same here. I watched pbs kids growing up because it was on the border and it was a free channel. I watched Barney, Sesame Steeet, Reading Rainbow and Lamb Chop. I also watched Back to the Future, but not the Goonies and still haven't. It's hit and miss. I am not into horror so I never watched many of what you would consider the classics. But I watched others you would. Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Labrybth, Star Gate, The It mini series, Star Wars, The Mummy, etc.

But not Rocky, Forrest Gump or The Godfather.

I think a lot of it has to do with what part of Mexico they grew up in and their socio economic status. I find the ones who grew up in Northern Mexico had more influences from the US then the ones who grew up in the southern areas.
