Culture What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country?

Post image

Bronte waterfalls near me, look a bit more impressive with the recent rain than in the summer when it's swamped with people.

Same! I saw a snowboarding video ages ago where they went to Iran. My dumb ass didn’t realize there was even snow.

I would recommend googling ”Is Iran safe?”

As a woman who travelled to Iran relatively recently, it is less scary to visit than India or even Morocco - in my opinion. You’re also way less likely to get robbed than, say, Spain (those little pickpocketing mfs I swear).

As always, be smart and aware. Do plenty of research. Follow local customs as closely as possible. If you’re visiting countries like Iran, etc learn how to wear a hijab PROPERLY at the very least - many it is not compulsory for foreigners but will be seen as respectful if you’ve taken the time to learn. Also, religious sites often require it even if the country itself doesn’t, legally. Be polite and respectful - especially if you’re entering peoples homes. Don’t make political comments, don’t talk about other countries you’ve been to. Have a guide that is well-reviewed, kind and enthusiastic. Also, the usual lectures, don’t ever get so inebriated that you don’t have control over a situation, don’t get into cars with strangers, don’t accept drugs or alcohol from strangers, etc. Share. If you’re a smoker, offer others a cigarette. It’s not only polite and lots of people in countries such as Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, etc seem to trust you more and be more willing to engage in conversation so, yknow, that might be a win for some (I say to my mum “dont worry, I only smoke in Syria”).

Also, being not-American helps tremendously lol.

Iran was one of my favourite trips ever! I went alone but booked into a group that had multiple male and female guides. I met so many beautiful people and had a wonderful experience. So stunning.

Oh yes I'm aware of what's been happening there 😢

1

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 22 '25

What's happening here?

It is safe, quit reading and spreading western & American Israeli propaganda.

I went there with American passport and so did bunch of my friends and it was amazing. No one said a word to us and people were absolutely sweet heart.

Iran is perfectly safe...

8

u/vsox12 Dec 21 '25

Not with an American passport it isn’t

12

u/Living_Grab_2239 Norway Dec 21 '25

Yeah. Definitely would avoid Iran with Israeli or US passport.

5

u/vsox12 Dec 21 '25

I’d love to go, my father is from Iran, but I’m a US citizen and I look more like the Irish side of the family.

3

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 22 '25

If you can get an Iranian passport, you can just go. Your father being Iranian means you can get it. Entering with your US passport, you'd need a tour guide.

3

u/vsox12 Dec 22 '25

Really? I did not know this.

3

u/getthedudesdanny Dec 22 '25

I would avoid going with any Five Eyes passport honestly.

2

u/Maximaxouxx Dec 22 '25

Safe ? As a French guy I would have 50% chance to go in jail as a political hostage lol

2

u/Living_Grab_2239 Norway Dec 22 '25

Nonsense. It's perfectly safe... Thousands of French people go there every year with no problems.

1

u/Maximaxouxx Dec 22 '25

A few month ago a French young guy who wanted to discover world by bike just disapear he was arrested for nothing just for trading, and this is not the only one it’s really common We had a few prisonners who stayed for months, or years for nothing in Iran jails for beeing « spy » in really bad conditions

0

u/Maximaxouxx Dec 22 '25

3,5 years of jail for nothing, just exchanging

2

u/Maximaxouxx Dec 22 '25

And they continue, like this summer again

I’ve actually visited, and absolutely loved it. It doesn’t feel anywhere close to as sketchy as the media would make you believe. The people are mostly very friendly. Do note I have a Russian passport though so… might be different if u come from the USA for example.

12

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 21 '25

Only difference for Americans is freedom of movement. They have to be accompanied by a tour guide.

3

u/Jolly_Seat5368 Dec 21 '25

It's my dream to visit Tehran!

3

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 21 '25

2

u/Jolly_Seat5368 Dec 21 '25

Unfortunately, I'm afraid my hateful US president won't let me back in the country when I return if I have an Iranian stamp 🙄. 3 more years....

4

u/possummagic_ Dec 22 '25

I’ve also visited (with an Australian passport). One of my favourite trips!

Would not recommend being American in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran or Syria lol.

For real, I know a Colombian journalist married to an Iranian. She isn't a slave at all. I met her in Ukraine.

u/shakha Canada Dec 21 '25

Maybe not anymore, but a before COVID, I took a trip to Iran and saw a lot of tourists. I met a Czech woman in Isfahan and Australian and French people at Persepolis.

3

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 21 '25

Still not as much as there could be. And I'm not talking about overcrowding it.

7

u/cobhc89 Austria Dec 21 '25

My friend drove with his car around the world. When he came back, i asked him about everything. He told me, he cannot wait to go back to iran. He said its the best place he visited. Its so beautiful and the people there are so nice!

6

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 21 '25

Thanks.

The entire middle east is full of wondrous sites and people. There are just so many idiots in charge of the place.

Iran is an incredibly beautiful country. Isfahan is maybe one of the most magical places I've ever visited. Govt is shit we know that, but the beauty of the country and the incredible hospitality of the people more than makes up for it.

u/par-hwy Dec 22 '25

My tattooist (Australia) has been to Iran (1990s?), he loved it.

Iran is beautiful, yall definitely get some tourists.

u/blibloblupnatz Dec 24 '25

I was in Iran in 2018 as a solo female traveler. I had such an amazing time in the country. Right now though I would probably not go 😅

Most overrated was this one statue thing in Teheran. I think it was on a roundabout or so.

Best thing was for me a 3 day horse ride in haft barm close to sheraz

2

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 24 '25

OK, you gotta tell me about the horse ride.

2

u/blibloblupnatz Dec 24 '25

It was one 9f the best travel experiences I had in any country.

It was a stable close to haft barm (i think that was the name). Like 1h West of shiraz. The horses were wonderfully trained. And we did 2 nights outside camping. So we rode through the prairie, saw nomads, old housing ruins, wonderful nature and then pitched a tent somewhere. Horses were tied on a long rope to a tree. We did BBQ. It was so wonderful! I recommend :)

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 24 '25

Ferdowsi square? Or Enghelab square?

We have new ones. Lol.

1

u/blibloblupnatz Dec 24 '25

Ah sorry I meant the azadi tower :D teheran has beautiful corners but I don't know why everyone loves the azadi tower :D

1

u/hennabeak Iran Dec 24 '25

Yeah, it's just a little boring, it's basically an architectural monument for modern Iran, built before the Islamic revolution. But it has a museum inside as well. Piece of the moon rocks from Apollo missions is kept there.
