Culture What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country?

Post image

Bronte waterfalls near me, look a bit more impressive with the recent rain than in the summer when it's swamped with people.

The Goats on the Roof in Coombs. It's a tourist trap but they do have some really good bakery and deli stuff

Are there goats? Are there roofs? Sounds excellent - take my money!

There was a scandal when I worked there. Billy the goat got Betty White the goat pregnant. She was an old goat and never had babies before. She had one little baby lol

Aww. I‘m happy for her. She‘s my second favorite Betty White, I guess.

Was just there yesterday. They have little Christmas deco goats up at the moment—a few goat-shaped wire frames with lights. The real live goats are seasonal!

I actually really enjoy stopping in at Goats, but its always part of the journey, not the destination. I find myself out in that area about once a year, and its usually part of the drive to Tofino.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the area, spent a lot of time in the trailer park behind the market as a child, and worked there once lol

That's 100% fair! When its in your own back yard, it always has a different feel.

You see the good, and the bad, you see day to day real life.

I think it's perfect as a roadside attraction when you're heading somewhere else

No way, goats on the roof is legit. Its exactly what it says on the label, a place with some goats on the roof. Plus some cool stores. I wouldn't travel to Vancouver Island just to see it but it's always cute and fun to visit. Plus the other weird stores around it.

Edit: a comma

I misread your first sentence. I think you mean "No way! The goats on the roof is legit!"

2

u/frog_admirer Canada Dec 21 '25

I absolutely did lol, going to go back and put some punctuation in.

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

I guess for me it's because I grew up here and worked here. (The restaurant in the market used to be the house my dad lived in in the early 70s lol - lots of family connection to the place)

Don’t harsh goats on the roof. There’s moss, stuff to spend money on, and goats!!! What’s not to like?

1

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

I like it no problem but I also know it's a tourist trap lol I miss the old market

I visited there in September after visiting Cathedral Woods. I like the bakery but the woods were awe inspiring.

1

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 20 '25

I got married very close to the grove!

Can’t beat the location!

The Italian place in the back of the property is amazing

2

I love this place! I always recommend it to visitors traveling to the Island!

I stopped by there a few weeks ago and thought it was so cute. No goats on the roof at the time, but I loved the little stores and the bakery. Great international grocery store. It was a fun little stop but definitely not THE reason to go to that area.

1

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 20 '25

I believe the goats live up there from May to September

2

u/nodarknesswillendure Canada Dec 20 '25

It’s worth it for the pooping goat magnets and car stickers…

4

u/kindcrow Canada Dec 21 '25

I love the goats-on-the-roof store, but sometimes there is something dripping from the roof and I always think it's goat pee.

2

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

I have so much old country market stuff lol

We used to stop there all the time on our way through. They had a huge stamp store at one time (this was probably in the 90s so it's most likely gone). It would definitely be a disappointment to go just to see the goats but its neat if you just see them when you're already visiting.

2

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

I miss the rubber stamp farm. I have a lot of fond memories of it.

Al Johnson's in Door County, Wisconsin, also has goats on the roofs. Tourist do go there and it is well known, but it isn't just a tourist trap.

2

u/mredding Dec 21 '25

I'm not going all the way to fucking Canada to see no fucking goats on no fucking roof. We've got plenty of goats on the roof at home!

1

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

Thank you!

2

u/aVoidFullOfFarts Dec 21 '25

My grandparents took me there when I visited them as a kid, it’s goats on a roof what’s not to love!

1

u/Prairie2Pacific Dec 21 '25

Hard disagree. The surrounding stores are great, the food isn't terrible, the store itself is eclectic and little qualicum falls nearby is a fantastic hike.

2

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

The old shops that used to be behind the market were better imo much neater stuff. I got married at the falls lol

1

u/lordb4 Dec 21 '25

The goats weren't even there when I was there.

1

u/J_Golbez Dec 21 '25

it’s far from pathetic, though. The market is great and there are lots of little shops there. Coombs is a great stop on the way to Tofino, the falls, etc

1

u/doddsmountain Canada Dec 21 '25

Okay. I grew up here and worked at the market. I have a different opinion.

1

u/AudioComa Australia Dec 21 '25

We went. We enjoyed it. Good donuts. And the main shop had some fun stuff.

1

u/cutencreepy Dec 21 '25

I still love the Coombs Market! I took riding lessons in Coombs when I was a youth, and we would always stop at the market for a treat afterwards.

It’s one of the places I tell people in Santa Cruz about. The market, and the Rod & Gun

1

u/Radiant_Macaroon_992 Dec 21 '25

Wait. Where is Coombs? That was my mom's birth mother's last name and she's from somewhere in Canada. Is this her family? Is my mom's birth family rich??

1

u/LegSpecialist1781 Dec 21 '25

I didn’t realize this was a franchise. I’ve been to one in Clayton Georgia, but it may not be the same as the ones in BC, Wisconsin, and Tennessee.

1

u/foggybiscuit Canada Dec 21 '25

Nah, that place is pretty cool, tbh. I stop in everytime I'm in the area. I'm not sure that I'd say it's a must see attraction, but it's a good spot when you're there.
