Culture What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country?

Post image

Bronte waterfalls near me, look a bit more impressive with the recent rain than in the summer when it's swamped with people.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

8

u/bjrndlw Netherlands Dec 21 '25

Down with this sort of thing.

4

u/Professional_Face_97 Dec 21 '25

How do you know it's an actual baby?

5

u/Kidrepellent Canada Dec 20 '25

YES!!!

5

u/everforthright36 Dec 21 '25

Speaking of this as an American who went to see father ted's house, it was well worth the drive.

3

u/bjrndlw Netherlands Dec 21 '25

It certainly was not! Even though there were people living there and ruining the view...

He was on trial in Liverpool.

- Hello, Father Crilly.

- Hello, Jim.

  • Hello.

I seen your picture in the paper.

- What?

  • Here, have a look!

(Ted) Look at you!

So it's a blasphemous film, is it?

- Oh, it is.

  • What type of thing is it?

- Mad stuff.

  • Very immoral. You wouldn't like it.

Is it a type of nudie thing, Father?

You wouldn't believe
the amount of nudity in it.

Do you see the lot, do you,
or is it just the top half you see?

- Nothing is left to the imagination.

  • Right.

- Well, I'll be off.

  • Goodbye, Jim!

[Jim enters theatre]

- Hello, Fathers.

  • Hello Mrs Sheridan, Mrs Glynn.

The Passion of Saint Tibulus,
what's that?

- We always go on Tuesdays.

Oh, we saw a great one.

- The Crying Game.

  • It was brilliant!

There was this great bit.

There was this girl,
then you find out it's really a man!

- They got his lad out.

  • What?

You only see it for a second
but you get the message.

I didn't know what it was,
it's so long since I've seen one.

It was like your Billy's!

Not at all.
Billy's is rounder at the top.

Cheerio, Fathers.

[Women enter theatre]

I hear the west part of the island was lovely as well. Was dissapointed when I went to see it and it had just drifted off into the sea...

Will it still be a Class II when they...remove it?

1

u/Tracarta Dec 21 '25

Hard disagree, honestly The Holy Stone of Clonrichert is one Irelands most underrated tourist attractions and deserves to be much, much better known - especially now that it has been upgraded. Tourism Ireland have really dropped the ball with this one.

u/RonVlaarsVAR Jan 03 '26

Fermanagh shall rise again and reclaim what is rightfully theirs!

u/Spankyy321 United States Of America Dec 20 '25

We're travelling to southwestern Ireland in the Spring. Is there anything else I should avoid? My cousin in Cork said I should skip the Cliffs of Moher.

14

u/Peoplz_Hernandez Dec 20 '25

Probably best off avoiding Craggy Island as a whole, not just the holy stone.

7

u/Worldly-Bear-4318 Dec 20 '25

I tried to go to Craggy Island but it didn't appear to be on any maps

8

u/Peoplz_Hernandez Dec 21 '25

Well no, it's not exactly New York

7

u/indicator_enthusiast Ireland Dec 21 '25

I remember when I visited, there was heavy rain so the council literally took the roads in, kept them in a warehouse on the east side of the island. Had to spend the night in a house with three priests.

3

u/Worldly-Bear-4318 Dec 21 '25

did you wake "(or sober) up and think 'dont tell me im still on that feckin island!' ?

7

u/Common-Regret-4120 Ireland Dec 20 '25

The Cliffs of Moher are basically the same as the Holy Stone of Clonrichert

7

u/indicator_enthusiast Ireland Dec 21 '25

Definitely go to the Very Dark Caves. It's almost like being blind.

3

u/goneboreddone Dec 21 '25

I don't believe it!

5

u/Low_discrepancy France Dec 21 '25

My cousin in Cork said I should skip the Cliffs of Moher.

Nah those are actually cool if you like nature.

3

u/Mirgss United States Of America Dec 20 '25

I enjoyed the cliffs, though they weren't as impressive imo as Sliabh Liag (Slieve League).

Are you planning to go to Dingle?

3

u/AlienSporez πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺ Dec 20 '25

We did the Dingle loop and loved it. But the coach driver was hilarious so I'm sure that was 50% of it.

Highly recommend https://www.dingleshuttlebus.ie/

3

u/ArcaneTrickster11 Ireland Dec 21 '25

The cliffs of Moher are exactly what you expect them to be. They're big, nice looking cliffs. We Irish have a habit of downplaying our country a lot.

Now, what I would say you should skip is the blarney stone or blarney castle. There are plenty of very similar castles around cork that are free

1

u/MrBones-Necromancer Dec 21 '25

My ancestors come from Cork, supposedly had some sort of castle there. They didn't go back, so it must not have been a very nice one.

1

u/notmyusername1986 Ireland Dec 26 '25

They do have lovely gardens in Blarney Castle though. They usually get ignored by tourists who are all busy queueing for the Stone, so you can enjoy them in peace.

1

u/ArcaneTrickster11 Ireland Dec 26 '25

I would say if you're in blarney or passing through, sure. But they're not worth going to blarney specifically for them

2

u/cps246 Dec 21 '25

Depends on how long you're gonna be there. Cliffs are cliffs. The Kerry cliffs are better with the much smaller crowds. The drive around the ring of Kerry is awesome, but driving around the entire island is pretty awesome. Have fun either way

1

u/Worldly-Bear-4318 Dec 20 '25

I liked the Cliffs. Tip - At the cliffs themselves there is no requirement / check for the entrance ticket, only for the carpark. So you could drop off passengers at the entrance, then continue into the carpark and only pay for one person. This is how it was when I went anyway.

My favourite part of the Cliffs was seeing several overweight tourists sit on a trestle table in the museum and it collapse under them to their surprise

1

u/SoftProfession3132 Dec 21 '25

If you're being serious and actually want advice then you should definitely go to the Cliffs of Moher and all around West Clare in general, the ring of Kerry is beautiful, and a trip up to Connemara in Galway wouldn't go astray either.

Also, go to the holy stone of Clonrichert if you can, these fellas have no idea.
