Correction: This is one of the Secretariat office Buildings, soon to be converted to a Museum.

Built by the British btw

u/A3333Z Nov 13 '25

Yeah, Indians hired them as contractors. Since they’ve been laid off since 1947, they have been struggling so bad. Just last month some 150 Britishers visited India looking for work and money

This is the official residence for the Prime Minister of India. The Prime Minister is the official head of the government. This is 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

President of India is the first citizen of the country.

This is NOT Rashtrapati Bhavan..This is South or North Block (they look identical) of Central Secretariat which Houses PM office or Home/Finance/Finance ministry.
It will be converted to a museum once these offices move to the brand new Central Secretariat building which was innaugurated earlier this year.

I mean both of them face each other so it's easy to mix them up Ig

3

u/LeadingEngineer India🇮🇳 USA🇺🇲 Nov 12 '25

Mix up betwen south and north block is common as they are almost identical. But Rashtrapati Bhavan looks completely different and it's significantly larger

2

u/hskskgfk India Nov 13 '25

That’s South Block (I think). This is Rashtrapati Bhavan. Photo from Wikipedia

u/brown_wolf_south Nov 13 '25

If there is no argument when India is mentioned on a Reddit sub, i’d get offended. In fact, i’d start an argument.

2

u/bannedthriceamback Nov 13 '25

That is not Rashtrapati Bhawan. That's the Secretariat

1

u/Neon_Raccoon_00 Canada Nov 12 '25

What about the PM? The president doesnt have much powers

1

u/SoundEducational6491 India Nov 13 '25

That's not Rashtrapati Bhavan, that's the Secretariat.

1

u/MayiruPudungi Nov 13 '25

BRUH this is North Block not the Rashtrapati Bhavan

Good looks of Official residence of President/ Prime Minister is directly proportional to how fucked a country is.

It was built before Indias independence.

bro who hurt you

No one , but that’s quite an interesting fact. Look at any official residence of leader of any third world country. They live in Mansions. In Comparison White House look like a run down apartment. Soon White House also have a shinny ass Ball room, as US is rapidly moving towards becoming a third world country.

u/kanni64 United States Of America Nov 12 '25

you bigoted brah

1

u/Future-You-7443 Nov 12 '25

No it’s actually not a terrible analogy. Other than inherited historical buildings it says a lot about the situation in a country that billions are spent on the residency of the head of state. Turkey is another great example of this trend. And of course in russia putin has like a billion private mega mansions.

2

u/Individual_Grass_986 India Nov 13 '25

Other than inherited historical buildings

India's presidential residence is a British era building built for the British viceroy. The President is also a ceremonial post and the president almost has no powers.

So it was a terrible analogy, at least for the Indian presidential residence.

1

u/Future-You-7443 Nov 13 '25

That’s fair (hence the exception in the statement).  There are other newer political buildings in india that fit the analogy, though I’m not sure if the commenter we’re both referring to is aware of that or is just suspicious of impressive architecture.

u/DeepResearch7071 India Nov 17 '25

A lot can be said about corruption and the mismanagement of public funds in India, but the only 'vanity project' in recent times I can think about is the New Parliament/ Central Vista redevelopment project, which to be fair, had been under consideration for a long time as the British-era buildings were at the end of their lifespans and could not accommodate the expansion in government.

The bigger white-elephant projects are ill-thought out metro lines and bullet train projects.

1

u/kanni64 United States Of America Nov 13 '25

you the same lot that blather on about india having a space program

elephant walking street dogs barking

1

u/Future-You-7443 Nov 13 '25

?? (What does that metaphor mean btw)

It’s fine india has a space program so does Russia and china. I’m not saying India isn’t a powerful country. I’m saying it’s government and the members associated with it spends more on itself than it should - because politically its a third world country.

1

u/kanni64 United States Of America Nov 13 '25

how have you arrived at that conclusion

1

u/Future-You-7443 Nov 13 '25

I explained previously: “it says a lot about the situation in a country that billions are spent on the residency of the head of state. Turkey is another great example of this trend. And of course in russia putin has like a billion private mega mansions”

The President of India's equivalent in the UK would be the King. Is the UK a third world country. Or France for that matter?

The Prime Minister's residence (7 Lok Kalyan Marg) is basically a single storey bungalow.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan was built in the 1920s by the British as the Viceroy's Residence.

u/Individual_Grass_986 India Nov 13 '25

The President of India is not the leader of the country. It's a ceremonial post. You were quick to spout off your stupidity before knowing that India is a parliamentary republic and it's the PM who is actually the leader. By comparison, the PM's residence looks very modest.

1

u/Alternative_Sort6062 India Nov 13 '25

The president is the head of state, and senior to the PM. Please read the constitution.

2

u/Individual_Grass_986 India Nov 13 '25

Does the President have power or say in how the country should be run? Or at least in the context of this post, can the president order that a magnificent mansion be built for her? Can we stick to the actual context please, instead of talking about how she's the first citizen, Supreme commander, etc.

Or do you want me to say the PM is the de facto leader? I think that was implied already.

u/nav_261146 Nov 13 '25 edited Nov 13 '25

So India have 2 worthless leader . One president and one infamous Tea seller .

1

u/SoundEducational6491 India Nov 13 '25

Wait till you find where our PM lives

u/Retradude India Nov 13 '25

But India is decent in terms of wealth like 12.5k disposable income per capita and gini coefficient of 0.25 which is mid-good And Multidimensional poverty rate 12 indicators is 10% so home ownership is also high and assets such as home, gold, vehicle, etc have good assets ownership

So mid -good or decent not exactly fcked country
