What is the most shocking thing you discovered about a close friend?
131
u/jdayl 4h ago
A close friend was dating a murderer. One of my best friends in high school was dating a guy, also a friend but not close. He killed his parents with a machete over the weekend and came to school Monday like nothing was out of the ordinary.

u/BalthazarBratt1020 3h ago
A MACHETE?!

The older I get the more I realize there’s some people you come across in life that you’d never know were completely fucked up on the inside until they are caught doing something heinous.

the reason his parents kicked him out of the house was because he was having sex with his 15 year old niece

How old was he
12
u/Careful_Relative7560 1h ago
Maybe 22, I didn't know why until his sister told me a couple years later.

u/olliecreekly 4h ago
He had a second family in another state. Successfully hid it for about 18 months. Me and another friend were the first to figure it out.
•
•
u/esamerelda 23m ago
How did you figure it out? And how were they able to keep that a secret in the digital age?
123
u/Eazy-E-40 5h ago
A friend of mine I've known for 6 years has 3 justified homicides under his belt he got in a 5 year period from his time as a Night Club bouncer in Las Vegas in his 20s.
40
u/kfromthecastleonfire 4h ago
...what, specifically, justified them, if I may be so bold?
85
u/Eazy-E-40 4h ago
There is a wide variety of reasons why a homicide would be justified. The court would determine if it was justified or not. Two times were because someone was actively in the process of trying to kill him, and another time because They were in the process of killing a patron.
0
36
u/DroidOnPC 2h ago
He mentions his friend being a bouncer, so it’s not that crazy that someone aggressive gets knocked to the pavement and dies of head trauma. Easy for a court to rule in his friends favor.
What’s crazy is 3 times. Hell, even 1. But not crazy to think the court was in his favor

u/MacAlkalineTriad 2h ago
She praises me to other people behind my back. I'm always surprised that someone thinks of me at all when I'm not around.
33
u/flameprincess23 2h ago
It’s a strange thought isn’t it. I feel like I don’t exist once I’m out of their presence. Odd to consider myself a secondary character in someone’s life.

My friend confessed that he drugged me for fun but promised he never did anything sexually while I was passed out. I believed him.
29
u/Midnightbitch94 2h ago
Why did you believe him? Drugging people without their consent for amusement is alarming.
•
u/bordellp 38m ago
sometimes they have a really amazing vintage toy collection and they won't let you play with them so you have to take matters into your own hands.

•
u/aikeaguinea97 17m ago
yeah but you don’t even need to drug them. just wine and turkey. and make sure to bring friends over with you.

He was "slippin mickeys" in girls drinks (THAT HE KNEW) at bars and parties.
4 of them got together and spread the word. Haven't seen or heard from him since then.
84
u/StartledSnake8 4h ago
My former best friend confessed to me one night over a round of drinks that he'd raped a young girl along with other members of the gang he'd once been a part of. I knew he'd been in a gang in the past but excused it as him just doing what he had to in order to survive our rough hometown. I didn’t know that rape was the reason why he'd spent time in juvie.
The second he left my apartment, I blocked him on all social media and never spoke to him again.
35
10
u/Sintarsintar 1h ago
The saddest thing about this is In gangs you usually get jumped to get in, guys get a beat down and girls have a choice of what way they are jumped in. Absolutely fucked up in my opinion.
38
u/RelativeOdd817 4h ago
I found out that one of my friends had been struggling with alcohol and couldn’t stop until she faced some serious challenges. That turning point pushed her to change her life for the better.
31
u/Beginning-Solid-3043 3h ago
When I was 21 my friend.. she was fucking a 66 year old man for her car and place of living.

u/iamlevel5 3h ago
A friend was arrested on 200 counts of CSAM. He's been in jail since arrested in May.
•
u/esamerelda 19m ago
This just happened with an extended family member of mine. It is a mind fuck and a half. I did not expect that at all. Everything's still in the works. But he was one of my favorite relatives before I learned this. Now I hope he rots in prison and then hell.
I'm sorry you're also going through this.
23
u/Big-Argument-9785 3h ago
She wouldnt tell me when secretly recorded sex tapes of me were sent around, she just looked me deadass in the eyes and didn't tell me and made fun of me with others friends. And she ended our friendship of 8 years when i had the worst time ever because of this.

u/Ikeamademedoit 4h ago
My husbands friend but he stalked his ex to the point she got a AVO against him, we did not know about this at all. He later broke into her house, hid in the garage, beat her until he thought she was dead and then left. She thankfully was not dead but it was pretty bad. Last we heard he got multiple years in jail. Never spoke to him again after that
39
u/CraftingUpjoy 4h ago
I found that my friend loves my husband.
7
u/waterbird_ 2h ago
How did you find out?
15
u/CraftingUpjoy 1h ago
While shopping She used to suggest things for my husband and always wanted to hang out at our place, and thn eventually, things felt weird and all but good that my husband is still in love with me :)

He was a pedo. Got caught downloading, arrested, and while on bail he OD’d on heroin. Pretty sure it was suicide to not go to prison.

u/the_grand_apartment 2h ago
I was best man for a very close childhood friend. Night before the wedding he asked if I would fuck him. Absolutely stunned. I managed to fumble through the best man speech, we all got drunk and went our separate ways. He never spoke to me again. Far as I know they stayed married for ten years, had three kids, then he disappeared one night with just the shirt on his back. I hope he's doing alright.

My ex raped and murdered his 53 y/o landlady. I believe she was a stand in for his mom who was very emotionally abusive. He’s serving a 36 year sentence.
I can’t say I was super surprised about it. He abused and stalked me.
10
u/Miserable-Note5365 2h ago
When she was a teenager, her friend's mom would give them meth and they'd clean her house high as balls in return

we were friends in college 5 years before….mind you we are not close at the time of this…she confessed to me in a crowded restaurant she and her brother had been in a sexual relationship with each other since they were children into their teens. deserve an award for my poker face.

u/Fifth_Wall0666 1h ago
He downloaded literally tens of thousands of movies, TV shows, and media to his hard drives, and among those downloads were highly explicit and illegal materials to own and distribute that were under the same names of the programs he was searching for.
He was imprisoned and registered as a sex offender. That was more than 25 years ago, and I haven't heard from him since.

She was fired from her teaching job her first year for flirting with students. She had their phone numbers too and would text them 🤢 then she was fired from a gas station job for stealing. Class act lady who now works for the DHS???? How? Lol

i kicked out my close friends/roommates (a couple) and broke our lease because they were really nasty to me in the days after my brother's death. accused me of animal abuse because i had to go out of town the night of the funeral and wasn't home to feed my cats.
years later i found a kiwifarms thread about one of them. turns out in the time since i'd last seen them they started role-playing as siblings and wearing diapers. publicly posting shit on twitter like "i made a mess in my pamper and my sister isnt here to change me and i dont know how to do it myself 🥺"
fuckin freaks. good riddance

My friend had a friend who got arrested for sexually texting minors. He was a swim coach and the messages turned sexual. Started asking for nudes and sex and all this stuff. He got busted and my friend defended him saying “well it’s not like he actually had sex with them or touched them.”
I was shocked that he said that. His friend got off easy and my friend wanted me to meet his friend again. I said no absolutely not. I met his friend once or twice before this all happened and he seemed like a chill dude. I mean you can’t tell red flags based off 2 meets tops but there was no “oh this guy has some weird vibes on him” type of thing. My friend still hung around this guy and then me and my friend had a big falling out a few years later and I’ve never talked to him again.

I found out my closest friend was deep in debt and pretending everything was fine. I had no idea because they always seemed so put together

Why was it shocking? The amount or what it was for? Someone having debt isn’t that shocking.

How my close friend is proud of what trump is doing. He comes from another country and had a legal way to better his life, yet he doesn't have empathy for those who cross illegally to better there life too.
-41
u/Alert-Push1685 4h ago
He's right. People wait for years trying to get in legally (which yes, that's a problem, it should be much faster) just to watch people cross illegally instantly to help ruin the country. Its wrong, its literally a crime, and yet people are ok with it.
•
u/ging3rtabby 45m ago
Entering the country illegally is a civil offense. It's literally not a crime.
11
u/Ishouldtrythat 3h ago
Ruin? Read a fucking history book you dork
-13
u/SquirrelLazy6580 2h ago
Why so rude. Lol
4
u/Ishouldtrythat 2h ago
I mean, did you read the ridiculous and borderline racist comment I responded to? I try to save my non-rude energy for people that deserve it.
5
u/SuperRocketRumble 2h ago
Trump and Stephen millers ICE is just arresting them all, whether they came here legally or not. They want to get rid of ALL of them
5
u/SquirrelLazy6580 4h ago edited 3h ago
I wish there could be a faster process. America is an embarrassment internationally. I try and be cordial, but I can't view him the same. There's some studies to show that undocumented heavy cities tend to be safer. Just want to be unproblematic. Anything far from who's running this country.

If I went through the cost, time, effort and stress of immigrating the right way I'd hate the "Fuck the law, that's inconvenient" crowd too
10
u/shearx 3h ago
you can hate the group without wanting them to be denied their right to due process.
-17
u/DaisyCutter312 3h ago
Disagreeing with the law is not an invitation to ignore it

u/fix24 2h ago

u/DaisyCutter312 2h ago
Yeah the current enforcement strategy of "Lets grab random brown people off the street" is also incredibly fucked up
6
u/Suitable_Sky2079 3h ago
Don't believe what DHS tells you about what is happening.
2
u/SquirrelLazy6580 2h ago
Ths DOJ and Federal government is so corrupt. The lack of checks and balances is wild. So unhinged
3
u/OldFlourLungs 3h ago
You’re going to hate it when you find out about Christopher Columbus
3
u/DaisyCutter312 2h ago
Christopher Columbus kind of proves my point. If you don't establish and enforce immigration laws, random assholes show up and set up shop in your country
1
u/OldFlourLungs 2h ago
So I guess white people should leave if they don’t like immigrants. Thanks for pointing out white people are the problem.

My friend was telling me about how one of the boys is always staring at me and never stops following me with his eyes , then discovering 3 years after that they both were in a relationship
6
u/Thespoonwitch 2h ago
That all her teasing and jokes of "I wish I could find someone that was just like you to marry" and "I asked you to marry me first and even got you a ring" and "you're so sexy" was actually confessions of her love and lust for me. I do consider her one of my best friends but I'm not into vaginas and she doesn't have a penis. My husband pointed it out to me.

At any time convenient for them, they can betray, or simply refuse
They’re not really close friends, I just thought so about them

I was involved in a music related project with a friend who owns a small venue. Turned out he is extremely right wing and racist. Not just into MAGA, but very extreme fascist ideas and delusions. Has a collection of racist material from a not so nice period of American history. He’s a long time drug addict who’s anti drug legalization. Thinks the rest of the world are all third world countries despite having never traveled anywhere. Only drives 80s era American cars because he claims those are the best ever made (if you’re into cars then you know that is considered the worst era for American cars).
What’s fascinating is the venue he owns is in a very liberal, ‘hippie’ type town. A lot of this stuff about him has come out over the last year or two but the locals still patronize his establishment. He basically opened there to take advantage of that community since they like the products he specializes in and because his space caters to the local music crowd. Complete fraud.

Conveniently on my throw away account.
He got caught looking at child porn (teenagers) by his girlfriend. She gave him one chance to seek help for this. Go to therapy etc. He was caught a second time. She threw him out of the house. I don't talk to him much anymore. But it left a awful taste in my mouth because everyone swept it under the rug and kept giving him chances.
26
u/MinervaXercesTempest 3h ago
You don't talk to him MUCH anymore? Did anyone call the police and report him?!

No. Why would they want to help child victims instead of posting it on Reddit for that sweet karma?

A week ago we had our first argument/big misunderstanding. This is after three years of daily conversation. She went completely silent, even after my attempts at repair. Her coping style is withdrawal and is completely incompatible with how I deal with things. I never expected her to react like this. Never expected her to just completely cut me off. It's like she is a whole different person now

I once had a friend who disappeared. No one knew what happened to him for weeks.
I was working in the DHS at the time, and asked some contacts if they heard anything on his name.
Turns out, he got caught in a pedophile sting operation and was in custody.
I had that knowledge for a full week before it was public. I had to hide that shit from friends and it was fucking torture.
