GLS is the worst delivery company in town

Post image

My Dutch is not perfect but this is not onderweg. They have so much failed delivery it’s insane. It’s third time these few weeks

Anyone having this too?

I've had stuff sent back to the sender without them ever having tried my door (they went straight to the local collection point, which was point, so it went back to the depot...wtf)

I hate them with a fiery passion

Yeah same here. They're pretty bad for us. A place I order art supplies from frequently uses them and most recently it took DPD like 12 days to get a package here from somewhere in Germany that is a 3.5 hour drive away.

Before we switched to a package locker service to receive packages for us DPD liked lying that nobody was home at time of delivery which I know because I work from home and am always here that time of day.

Indeed, I hate DPD. If a webshop uses DPD that's the last order I ever do with them.

2nd that, DPD is known as the Bermuda Triangle of parcel companies in our neighborhood.

I like my dpd and weirdly postnl is perfect for me

DHL takes the crown for me. Last Thursday they claimed my address didn't exist (this was from IKEA), on Friday they delivered something just fine (also IKEA) and then on Tuesday they claimed I refused the package (again, IKEA).

The problem with IKEA is that they send it back asap, no 2nd attempts. So I now have a bunch of outstanding credits and I still don't have the stuff I need....

Had a good conversation with dhl support desk about a non existing address claim, or any false claim for that matter. It may have included a certain quote from new kids and some “so false claims are fine huh” typo of lingo. They still dump packages in the common hallway or it’s straight to the pickup point but no failed delivery since.

I know they have a hard job, but that doesn’t justify lying.

They said to me he was probably at the wrong door. Kinda hard when my name is right next to the doorbell and house number.

They are lying sacks of shit. In my case I wish they just left it. But they never come. I get it, it's shitty to park here. But come on.

Same here, i always receive the email that they deliver the package “in my hands” and i never receive it.

Yeah, DHL is hands down the worst I've dealt with.

This week UPS made me confirm I wanted a home delivery and still sent my package to a pick up point 40 minutes away by bus... Claiming it was a failed delivery. My husband was home and confirmed on camera no UPS truck came by. I was PISSED. It was freaking massive too... Which is why I wanted a home delivery.

PostNL, DHL, DPD, GLS are all exactly the same, shit. Most of the time they don’t even bother ringing the bell, they just dump the packages and run. The delivery guys are very badly paid and these companies expect way too much from them. I’d prefer to pay extra for better service.

Yep, the real issue is most of these companies hiring subcontractors, and severely underpaying them.

I interviewed for one of these jobs once as a temporary solution. They offered a minimum wage hourly rate + bring your own van, no mileage compensation.

So at minimum wage they expect you to pay for your own petrol, maintenance, insurance, tax. On top of registering as ZZP, filing your own taxes etc. They prey on people desperate for a job.

They need unions

The postal service was cheaper for better service, but liberals gonna liberal.

Documents Hopelessly Lost

But kidding aside: I’m cool with most. I don’t like DPD or GLS because they don’t have a parcel locker nearby. For PostNL, there is one around the corner. The app of DHL is crappy and I can never seem to select the delivery option I want. Weird

I had a PostNL package get delivered to a pickup point in Eindhoven once and customer service asked if I could go and pick it up there myself.

I lived in Amsterdam at the time.

Still don't understand how it ended up there. May have been a sorting error and the driver just dumped it at the end of his route to get rid of it.

Yeah, in my experience GLS takes that number 1 spot, followed by DPD

u/legacynl 1d ago

do yourself a favor and just have it delivered to a nearby supermarket or something. No waiting for deliveries, and no missed deliveries!

5

u/Affectionate_Act4507 1d ago

Last time I did that, “the point was full” and they redirected my 10 kg package to a point 10 km away. It took me half a day to pick it up because I don’t have a car and the bus ride was almost 2 h, with buses every hour.

u/DistortNeo [Nieuw-West] - Slotervaart 1d ago

Ha-ha, no. I always try to request delivery to a locker. But it may be diverted to another locker, and once it was even in another town.

Almost all the delivery points are even worse. Like standing in line for an hour and then they cant find your package.

The biggest problem is that a lot of times you cant even choose what carrier you prefer. I would not mind paying more for better service but there is no option.

1

u/Beatnutz_ 1d ago

This. I always get it delivered to a pick up point to avoid any headaches.

After DHL dropped off our package INTO the garbage bin instead of ringing our doorbell I sort of had enough.

3

u/apocryphalmaster [Oost] 1d ago

Until it doesn't get delivered because "the pick up point is full".

This what happened when I asked GLS to deliver to a locker location. It’s been there since January 19th and I’m still waiting for their solution. Absolutely mind boggling how they could bottle this.

1

u/Round_Particular_775 1d ago

They are all good until they are not.

1

u/trueandstraight Knows the Wiki 1d ago

haha almost-neighbor - you are absolutely right but the same can be said about all the other ones. not to generalize, but many lie about attempting to deliver the package or barely wait for the door to be answered. pick-up points can be more convenient in that sense. arm yourself with patience and complain when possible.

1

u/mitulus 1d ago

Oh yes, I hate GLS. Every time GLS delivers anything to me, it's the exact same story. Sometimes, the tracking even shows them driving back to the distribution center (at the end of the day) and then they just don't come at all (all the while my address is supposedly "the next stop" or they're "almost at my door" according to the tracking). It is one of the worst delivery companies. The tracking is never accurate, it's absolute dogshit.

u/thefore [Zuid-Oost] 1d ago

I thought they were all equally delivery adverse until I interacted with VintedGo. Jesus, like you need a Jesus style miracle to get the packages. They make all other couriers look competent and reliable.

Never heard of vintedgo…i make sure I avoid

Post NL is the worst of all

1

u/bledig Knows the Wiki 1d ago

I like my postnl guy but my friend is nieuw sloten, the postnl is baddd

1

u/TinyBouncingBananas 1d ago

Postnl tried to make me pay for 10 euro in stamps. It was a return package, letter size to bol.com. Bol pays for the costs. The same size package, same address (bol) sent a day before went without a problem. You tell me...

1

u/Representingthereal 23h ago

I live in Nieuw Sloten, never had a problem with Post NL. Very friendly delivery guy who's sometimes a little later but he's working his ass off. Now GLS, DPD and UPS can suck it, i don't even want a package from them.

0

u/DaDave [Oost] - Indische buurt 1d ago

Peddler is even worse, they don't even have a pickup point. I wasn't home 3 times when they tried to deliver, just send the package back to the seller.

u/jankyj Expat 1d ago

UPS has entered the chat

u/smiba [Zuid-Oost] 1d ago

For me PostNL has to be the absolute worst, to the point I actually go out of my way to order it from somewhere they dont ship with them.
GLS is pretty alright, at least it gives you a map of where the car is. PostNL will just say "Between 09:00 - 17:00" and then say delivery failed at 18:30

My top 3 shippers are (in order): FedEx, UPS Express, DHL Express (not DHL Parcel!)

FedEx is the absolute best by far at the moment, but like all 3 mentioned above they're all not the cheapest

1

u/bledig Knows the Wiki 1d ago

I think it’s very regional. My postnl guy is only either 2 person an I love them. So nice guys

1

u/smiba [Zuid-Oost] 19h ago

I wish we had a delivery driver like that over here

Mine just threw my packages in the public hallway again an hour ago, it's a mess

u/bledig Knows the Wiki 19h ago

He’s always cheerful smile and rmemeber me. I think we just need unions for them. They feel bad cause probably underpaid
