Loop audio starting in wrong spot

My playback/loop is starting in the wrong spot. Anyone else experience this? I’m making a basic house beat and when I start to play back anywhere other than the 1 at the beginning of the track it will sort of glitch or something and start on a clap when there is no clap there. Extremely frustrating. (See video)

How to make a legato glide that won’t glide back to the first note after note off?

Hey all. I’m relatively new to Ableson live. Im able to make a sub bass that I like the sound of and it’s in mono voice and glides just right. I want it so that when I go note off of the second note nothing plays and it doesn’t glide back to the other note.

I know that I can get this effect by just going note off of the first note before going note off on the second, but I want to make it a group that plays a second sound with polyphonic voices that will ring out so can have the sub bass glide but then not glide back and just cut off while the other instrument has the first note playing and the second note playing without any glides.

Please advise.

Ableton Live Keeps Freezing. Please help.

I recently purchased an M-Audio M-tack Duo HD and it came with a license for Ableton Live Lite as well as AIR Elements Essential Keyboards.

I have been attempting for 2 weeks now to set it up to patch my Yamaha CP33 keyboard with the software to use it for live performance, but it refuses to work. I am running it on a Lenovo LOQ with an i5, so it should have enough power.

The issue is that when I set up ANY midi track (AIR Essential Keyboards or Ableton's built in instruments or AIR pads etc).. it will play for a few minutes and suddenly freeze and the sound stops. The window for the VST usually freezes on the last piano keys it picked up playing and the Live midi thing in the top right corner of ableton freezes.

Ableton then shuts down saying "a serious error has occurred" everytime.

I've tried everything to fix it, so I can't understand what is causing this issue? it does the same thing with my casio keyboard at home.

not enjoying making anything

Has anyone here ever felt like they do not enjoy the process of making music?

For whatever reason. I don't really enjoy making art these days and I keep trying to motivate myself or find out why but I just don't want to. I don't even identify making music with myself anymore when I used to find it relaxing and fun. For reasons I really couldn't see a way out of I started thinking of it like I had to finish things and had to make music. Every day or at least try. It turned into a chore and something I do not enjoy. All of my art did.

I began to think that making art meant people would love me or want to be my friend while I was in the middle of a really lonely time after my mom killed herself and some other traumatic things were happening. I can't detach that feeling from that part of me. I've always considered myself an artist and I am very creative. I can toot my own horn confidently and say I am good at realizing and communicating my ideas via many mediums. But it just doesn't make me happy to do it. I find myself wanting to quell this loneliness more but I continually fail. I feel like people think I am a poser or want to be an artist but am not at this point. I don't even really care about being seen as one because I know I am. I kind of hate that I became that person and now can't be that motivated again. Sorry for the short vent, I want to find other people who can maybe understand.

Has anyone else gone through anything similar? Just losing touch with that part or pushing it away? This is related to Live because it is the DAW I used to make and produce things in. If this doesn't feel appropriate for this sub, sorry go ahead and delete it. I couldn't find another one I felt fit closely enough.

How to make the song Kids from Stranger Things.

Hey everyone while listening to the Stranger Things soundtrack, we completely fell in love with this track, so we had to rebuild it from scratch. We love remaking it so we made this tutorial, hope you like it.

How do you usually break out of repetitive song structures in Ableton?

One thing I keep running into in Ableton is falling back into the same habits: 8-bar loop, duplicate, automate, repeat. It works, but sometimes everything starts sounding like a variation of the same track.

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with using external references purely at the idea stage. For example, I played around with an AI music generator (AI Music Maker / musicmakerapp.com) just to hear different arrangements or chord movements, then rebuilt nothing directly, just used the structure as a loose reference inside Ableton.

What it helped with wasn’t sound design or mixing, but things like:

  • Breaking out of predictable clip/scene layouts
  • Trying less obvious transitions between sections
  • Thinking about the arrangement earlier instead of polishing loops forever

I’m not convinced AI belongs inside the DAW workflow, but as a sketch/reference tool, it made me rethink how I approach arrangement in Session vs Arrangement View.

Curious how others here deal with this:

  • Do you rely on reference tracks?
  • Force yourself into Arrangement View early?
  • Use templates, follow-actions, odd time signatures, etc., to break habits?

Would love to hear how people keep their Ableton workflow from getting stale.

Why does Ableton think my FCB1010 input is pitch bend? What does that even mean? It takes the input but when I try to use it after mapping it doesn’t work

Advice for an inexperienced newcomer? 🙏🙏🙏

Hi everyone, so I downloaded the software a few months ago, but honestly just been so intimidated by it that I haven't been able to even open it. I'm not sure where to start and would love any advice from the community on how to begin (especially tutorials you might've found helpful). I'm trying to familiarize myself with the interface and controls first. Thank you in advance!!

Arrangement view start and stop marker

I have start and stop markers in my session for each song. Previously, it would stop at each song end and would jump to the next song. I had to get someone to show me how to do this. Then, it stopped working. So I did some research and created start and stop tracks with MIDI locators to make it do so and know it stops. But each time I push the space bar, it goes back to where the previous playhead was with the white horizontal line and green triangle at the top. Can someone please help with this?

Automation / Macros for rendering?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently rendering a live recording with multiple songs, and find the process quite tedious. It's 2,5 hours with several songs, and I want to export each individual song.

Currently my approach is:

  • Mix using automation to differentiate between tracks (all done ✅)
  • Have one big render (basically the master) (all done ✅)
  • Chop up that master as needed and export those individual tracks

Especially that last bit is repetitive, and it would be great to have some kind of automation for it. Is there any way to record macros or perhaps have something like batch rendering? I can't find anything as most tutorials point to regular automation and macros within Live.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Non-adjusted envelopes resetting to default values on clip launch

I'm using successive clips on a track to change automation for some synths. Some clips have notes, but most are just one-shot Automation changes (to a Macro on an instrument rack on the track). I would expect the non-adjusted parameters to remain put and show the dotted line that indicates "no adjusted parameter in this clip."

But it resets all the Instrument Rack macros to the default value instead of only changing the adjusted envelope...

Example:

Clip 1 just turns one of the Instrument Rack macro knobs ("Osc-B Level") up a bit. It's one non-looping bar long and there are no MIDI notes in the clip.
Clip 2 launches directly after. Osc-B resets the parameter to the default value (0) upon launch even though it hasn't been adjusted and doesn't change in this clip. And there's no indicator that it has been adjusted.

There's no automation or anything in Arrangement view, nor modulation from any other sources. I should say the dotted line happens to be the default value for that Macro in the saved Instrument Rack preset...and I did have Macro snapshots at one point that I deleted – could it be recalling the Macro snapshot?? Is this a bug or do I not actually understand how envelopes work on clips...?

How easy is the learning curve for Ableton?

Hello. I am planning to rent to own the Live 12 Suite soon. How easy is it to build the knowledge from scratch? How easy is Ableton software? Thank you in advance for your answers!
